History

Established in 1987.

Ferryboats have captured the fascination of San Diego’s historic harbor since 1886, when the old Coronado Ferry Company began a passenger transit line, linking San Diego and Coronado Island. This was created to transport workers and materials to then being constructed, Hotel Del Coronado. In 1931 commuters drove their cars on board at one end of the ferry off the other. In 1949, vehicles boarding the car ferry drove through a framelike structure. Today, Centennial Park in Coronado is located on the site of the old car/​ferry dock.

1969 meant the end of the San Diego car ferries when the San Diego-​Coronado Bay Bridge opened with the inaugural crossing by former President Ronald Reagan.

Since 1987 the San Diego Bay ferry has brought many passengers across the bay to enjoy what has now become Coronado’s first-​class shopping village along the bay with the spectacular view of America’s Finest City as her backdrop.

Perfect place in Coronado to spend and afternoon or evening with your family or loved ones as this place has it all. From the many different variety of restaurants, to shopping, and yes who can skip out on the ferry. For a nominal fee you can ride the ferry across the bay and explore Downtown SD or simply enjoy a ride across the bay and enjoy the many beautiful views.
You have the Navy Ships, the Downtown Skyline, and yes the Coronado Bridge. Plenty to see and plenty to do and at night the views are even more amazing. I have had many beautiful memories and moments here and I love coming here because it is not only beautiful but extremely relaxing as well. During the day you can enjoy live music as well.
Plenty of parking throughout the streets, although I do miss the days when parking was free in the lots, but $ 1.00 an hour is not a bad fee and worth it when you consider the many amenities offered here. Extremely beautiful place to spend the day.

Romantic at night and definitely my top spot for a tourist attraction. Down the street is the historic Hotel Del Coronado building.
They offer ferry rides to the San Diego convention. I food this spot to a beautiful photo opportunity.

The Coronado Ferry Landing is a nice small collection of Shops and Places to eat. From Coffee to BBQ there is plenty to munch. The shops have plenty of shirts and hats and lots of other tourist products to buy.
It has a great view of the bay and the Ferry ride will provide more great views of the bay.
Plenty of parking with the first hour free then like $ 1.00 an hour after.
Worth a Stop to Check it Out.

We came to visit San Diego for our vacation, but I had never heard of Coronado until my nephew brought us here to continue our sight seeing! We found ourselves near the Coronado Ferry Landing which is just a small part of what is in store for the avid tourist! Along the bay is a long strip of sandy beaches, a wharf, boats out boating and sailing, a nice array of shops and restaurants, and you can’t miss the terrific views of San Diego across the water.
There is so much to see and do here that I wish we had more time to explore! But at least we got in some shopping and a bite to eat at one of the restaurants. And if you have a canine companion, don’t forget to check out Coronado’s dog beach just a few miles away! This town has a lot to offer!

We showed up on a Saturday just after the ferry had left for San Diego, but were pleasantly surprised to discover that another ferry runs to the Convention Center on the half hour or so. We hopped on that and were right at the Gaslamp district, which worked out better than if we had made the first ferry! Bring your bikes, bring your pets, all are welcome! If you’re too lazy to get to the Hotel del to swim, there is a small area of beach near the pier to swim. There are always a lot of people fishing off the pier, but I wouldn’t recommend it because it didn’t look like they were catching much.

Easy to find points of departure/​arrival. Easy to use pay kiosks. Short but pleasant ride to Coronado, cheaper than a cab. Pay attention to the signs on your ferry to make sure you are heading to the correct location when leaving the island (convention center vs. USS Midway).

Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA
Daytime, this place runs a ferry from Coronado Island to mainland San Diego. At night time, this place hosts a bunch of people who do midnight fishing. The place is pretty peaceful at night, and the area seems pretty safe. No weirdos or trouble makers were encountered here.
I will be back here to take the ferry, as I haven’t done so before in spite of me being stationed at NAS North Island during my navy years.

This is a nice lively atmosphere for locals and tourists. Bring the family, friends or a date for some outside fun!
This plaza is filled with restaurants, shops, parks, beaches, fishing, playgrounds, live music (on the weekends) and water equipment rentals.
Also, there are ferry boats that take you here from either the Broadway Pier or the SD Convention Center.
Lots of activities around here to keep you entertained for a few hours while having a gorgeous view of San Diego’s skyline/​downtown and Coronado Bridge.

Bottom Line: Touristy plaza with food, shops and recreation but still relevant and bearable for locals, especially given the lovely views of downtown San Diego.
The Ferry Landing offers dining, shopping and activities and is a popular spot for tourists, especially those who have come over on the ferry from either the Broadway Pier or 5th Street Pier. Many of the restaurants in the Ferry Landing are casual but a more upscale option includes Il Fornaio. The shops offer souvenirs and other impulse items but are a great way to kill some time while waiting for the ferry. This shopping center is fun and the architecture is fitting for the bay front location. For those wanting to be a little adventurous, kids can play in the sand and water of the bay and families and adults can rent kayaks and Stand Up Paddleboards.

This place is very near and dear to my heart. It’s actually where my brother proposed to my sissy in law 15 years ago or whenever it was! And I mean there’s a reason why he picked this spot of everywhere else he could’ve done it in SD. and that’s bc it’s the most pristine. just the most beautiful, romantic view of SD that you could possibly get. This place is an absolute must to bring out of towners who you want to show why your home is called America’s finest city.
This place is pop’n too. There’s often art walks and festivals and live music happening here it’s definitely a great place to spend a leisure afternoon. The only thing I have to say is that the food choices aren’t the greatest. I’ve eaten at several places in the ferry boat landing and on orange st but just for the sake of eating bc i was already there. well minus coronado brewing co, which we frequent bc my fiancé loves their coffee stout. but like everything else to eat there is ok or good but crazy overpriced. i mean it’s understandable bc much of what you’re paying for is the view. so when you eat anywhere, be sure to request a table right up against the glass otherwise you’re probably not getting your money’s worth. Better yet, there’s plenty of green space to lay down a picnic, bring your dog and take in some sun. bc it’s right on the bay it always has a really nice crisp breeze so even when it’s sunny it’s never too hot. Love this place!

Cool little area to spend a nice sunny weekend. There are several casual and upscale places to eat or have a snack. Two reastaunrats carry craft beers so it is a nice place to have a cool refreshing beer and also people watch. There are also several shops to browse through. Awesome views of the city skyline. I have not riden the ferry but friends tell me it is something to do at least once for the experience.

Over the past few years of living in San Diego I have found the ferry landing is a really cool place to visit. Not too long ago they added a toll booth but it’s still only $ 1 per hour and many businesses validate. The farmers market is pretty cool to check out if you plan ahead.
There are some really cool shops that are fun to poke around but more geared to tourists I feel. Many different options are available from Italian, to gyros, BBQ, pizza, etc. Peohe’s is a cool place to sit on the patio while having a cocktail and an appetizer. The skyline is quite a sight to look at with so many buildings along with Petco Park and the convention center.
On my last visit we sat down on the dock and just looked around cause there is so much surrounding you. The little beaches can be hit or miss depending on the time of year and weather. On a hot day you see people dipping in the water and kids swimming around. This is a cool place to hit for a few hours or bring friends or family visiting.

Although I haven’t ridden the ferry from downtown San Diego to Coronado (yet), I had some time this past Thursday before the Unilocal Elite Event at Broadstone to look around. And as many of my fellow Unilocalers have noted, the Ferry Landing is a quaint place to relax, browse, and appreciate the views of downtown San Diego’s skyline. The atmosphere is kinda like Seaport Village, what with the many shops and restaurants in the area.
We also visited the place where Unilocal Queen Maria C. said yes to her man some time back — of course we got pics!
Even though parking may be at a premium, the Ferry Landing is still worth visiting. Stop by sometime for those sunsets!

This that one spot for live bait action for halibut and corvinas! Always a good time when my friends and I come here to fish on their small pier. I think it’s a common place cuz during my frequent visits this past summer I always see the same people early mornings to late afternoons.

We came here after eating at Lil Piggy’s. My husband, myself and my daughter would walk around and check out the shops nearby. Normally, there are a lot of tourists that come here.
I absolutely love it when the sun would set. Watching the ferry cruise by is very cool. You can purchase tickets to ride the ferry at the end of the pier. You can see Downtown from the pier as well. It’s a beautiful sight to see any time of day.
There are a log of people who ride their bikes and I believe you can rent bikes too.
Parking is not that hard to find. We normally park on the street in front of Albertson’s.
Not too crowded on a Friday night. Great place to visit.

The view of downtown San Diego across the bay is breath taking. It’s the perfect place to relax at sunset and watch the lights come up in downtown as twilight settles in.
The shopping center itself is touristy and pretty standard fare. There is a broad spectrum of shops from trinkety gift shops to art galleries. Likewise, food options run the gamut from hot dogs to fine dining.
I haven’t taken the ferry to downtown but that looks like it would be a great ride.

In addition to the obligatory ferry, as the name implies, this spot provides a fantastic view of downtown San Diego if you’re a visitor looking for that perfect photo op. Nearby, there’s a variety of shops and restaurants, and you can also stroll along the water for a complete panorama covering the Navy ships nearby, the downtown skyline across the way, and the Coronado Bridge off to the south.

What can I say!
This place is just a relaxing place to go to.
I have yet to take the family but this is the go to place to take a rest. As a group of bicycle riders we have gone from Downtown to Coronado via Ferry. This make the ride great since we don’t have to deal with the pot holes on Harbor Drive.

Sigh… yet another location in San Diego that makes me love living in San Diego.
Located right next to Peohe’s, this area is a casual place to meet up and enjoy the great weather and scenery without having to have a special occasion to book an expensive table ;)
I think the boardwalk is great to stroll and watch a sunset. It’s the perfect place to take in the San Diego skyline.
Bring your dog, bring a friend, bring your fishing pole… grab a coffee.
