I hired this company to do the inspection on the house I was about to buy. Lots of issues were missed. Now it’s costing me a lot of money to fix all the things they didn’t catch. The seller offered to fix everything at the time that wouldn’t pass the inspection. I contacted this company asking to help fix the things they missed but they disregarded it. After reading the reviews here it looks like I’m not the only one with this kind of bad experience. Buyers beware!

Dave inspected our new home during escrow, and he did a pretty good job.
The Mathews Group could not accommodate the time I wanted, but neither could anyone else. They were the ones with the earliest available date and manageable time. It was summer, so it was a very busy time.
Dave was already there with the realtor when I arrived and had already gotten started. He explained some of what he saw and, if something was not technically in good condition, he would explain why he did or did not think it was actually a concern. That is helpful since no home will be perfect. It’s good to get a feel for what items could actually be deal breakers (such as malfunctioning electrical wiring that I would not want to deal with repairing) or are a quick fix (such as replacing a light bulb). That said, I wish he’d explained more. I would have preferred to be right next to him the whole time and talk about everything he noted, but I suppose that may have made it more difficult for him to focus, and he might have missed something important.
I purposely held off on immediately reviewing the company to see if anything popped up in the first few weeks of moving in that I thought should have been noticed. There were a few things, but they were not deal breakers. They missed a few non-​functioning lights. The interior garage light (connected to the garage door opening mechanism) and the outside garage light did not function. The one inside was no big deal as it just required replacing the light bulb, but the one outside doesn’t seem to even have proper wiring. That would have been nice to know. We could have either requested that the seller fix it when we requested other repairs or possibly had hired someone ourselves to take care of it before we moved. Instead, we’re getting by with a push light which is okay, but it seems like something that should have been noticed and noted in the report. There is also a non-​functioning porch light by our back door. We installed a separate light that wasn’t too expensive, but It should have been easy to catch and note the problem in my opinion. Those three lights seem to be the extent of what was missed, so it was a pretty good inspection overall. It is perhaps difficult to think of checking exterior lights when it’s so bright outside during the inspection, but this should be part of their checklist. Nonetheless, I am pleased overall.
I really liked that a lot of the items on the report noted when things were relatively new (like the water heater) or approaching the end of their life span, so that we are aware of the approximate timetable of future maintenance expenditures for the house.

We bought an older home and the seller had Mathews do the inspection and they found damage in various areas of the house including the master bedroom French doors, so, make a long story short the sellers hired them to treat their home and replace the doors. OMG, I’m not a door guy, I don’t know much about doors but let explain how bad the door job was in my opinion; there were huge gaps all around the frame, the left door wouldn’t open at all, the hinges keeping the door in place were missing screws, the key left in the lock won’t come out — it’s just stuck in there and I doubt even the Incredible Hulk could get it out, it’s the sloppiest job I have ever seen for a door. What boggles my mind is that this company came out, did this door and somehow thought that I’d settle for this, just bat shit crazy man.
I just can’t emphasize enough how bad this door was, imagine you take your car in to get a blue paint job but comes out green with scratches all over, that’s how I felt when I saw these doors. They might be a fine termite company and great at killing pests but the way I look at it, if the doors are this bad then I just wonder what else did they slack on for things I didn’t catch.
Anyway, I’ll give them an extra star since they did come and repair a 2×4 post along the house and nailed it in the wall fine.

Dave was a great inspector. He was prompt and arrived 30 mins before the inspection. He was very professional. Dave was able to clearly explain every key point of the inspection to my buyers. They were able to come out to the property the next day after I ordered the inspection. I will use The Mathews Group again.

Very thorough inspection. They pointed out the things that really mattered so I was sure to have them fixed. But, the real proof was months later when my insurance company had questions about the foundation and they came back with the information I needed to resolve the issue. Very impressed.

Had an inspection on a home we were going to buy, the report said the foundation was in «good» condition and luckily, I had my father (who is a licensed contractor) take a second look and found that the foundation was sloping over an inch! The inspector told me to my face «the foundation is in good shape». I asked for a refund and the owner originally agreed and than 1 week later refused to issue me a refund. He said «well it looks good from the outside». Avoid this company at all cost. Not professional or reliable. No integrity for their work.

They did not send a licensed contractor to inspect our home. We had one of their inspectors Scott Bowers come out to do the inspection on the house we had begun escrow on. His report came back saying the foundation support condition and the overall foundation condition was good, and that was the best possible rating he could put for it. We brought in a licensed contractor, once we realized Scott was not, to double check the inspection and he found that the living room and kitchen were both sloping over an inch!!! After he told us we looked and it was very clear and I’m not sure how we missed it just walking through. How can someone who is paid to inspect these type of things miss this??? We called The Mathews Group to let them know about our dissatisfaction in the inspection that we were given and were told we would be receiving a full refund. Fast forward to today we were told by Rich Mathew’s that they sent a senior inspector out to see the house and that there was nothing visibly wrong with the foundation and that we would not be receiving our refund. We asked if they actually went inside and inspected it he said he didn’t know. This is not a company I would ever reccommend to inspect your house.

I am regretful in writing this review after contacting Mathews Inspections Group directly and getting a cold shoulder, I want to alert other buyers and sellers of my recent experience.
The Inspection took place on July 23^rd of 2015 for a home I sold in Riverside, CA.
The inspector, Donald Mathews, was a very nice and personable guy who was polite and thorough.
The main issue I have here is with the pool inspection, in the report, it clearly dictates on page 30 that Mathew’s Inspection Group is not a pool inspection company but includes findings nonetheless.
Section 3 (Page 30 – 31)
The report dictates a reading of 17 PSI Is high. A brand new pool system in new condition will run at 15 PSI. I had personally just changed and replaced all of the filter cartridges as well as input the diatomaceous earth into the filter 3 weeks prior to this inspection so I can guarantee that the filter and pool equipment was running in pristine condition.
A pool filter clogged or getting clogged, not filtering the pool correctly, should read between 25 – 30 PSI. 17 is no where near high in this case.
Section 6 (Page 31) says the pool light did not work. It did work in fact and a photo was sent to buyers upon inspection delivery. Being an outside light switch, the cover has rubber insulation to keep water out, when the cover is slammed shut, it would turn off the pool light.
Because of these two call outs in the inspection, the buyers requested that I pay for a pool specialist to come out and verify that these two items were in fact working and in good condition. That costed $ 75.00. I can send you the invoice if you would like.
I contacted Mathews Inspection Group prior to posting this review asking for compensation of the $ 75.00 I was forced to pay due to their «findings» regarding the pool as well as an additional $ 75.00 for my time spent resolving an issue that SHOULD NOT have been an issue in the first place. They showed no remorse or plan to settle the issue and informed me that they would not be «helping me out with this» and «no response will be forthcoming.»
My request was not rude or unfair. It was not absurd.
I despise writing negative reviews about companies but when there is no remorse or willingness to rectify a situation, there is no other recourse.
I highly advise against using Mathew’s Inspection Group if you have a pool in your home and are selling.

My husband and I as well as our realtor AND the seller’s realtor were very much impressed with Clark Gerdes of The Mathews Group. Clark was on time, professional, explained everything all while happily answering any and all questions we had. He was thorough, matter of fact and impartial/​diplomatic. He did not rush us through the inspection or take too long. Not only did he point out larger items that needed attention but small items as well, things we would never have noticed until living in the home for quite some time. He was concerned about safety especially.
I appreciated the immediate follow up with an email confirming our appointment time and location. My realtor was able to schedule the inspection with a 2 day notice and on Sunday! I was also able to pay for and sign paper work from a link that was sent to my email which was convenient and easy to follow.
After a few months of moving into our new home there were a few things that were missed during inspection like 2 toilets leaking into the floor, one so much that it had been leaking into our kitchen below. There was evidence that the issue had been «worked on» before. Also, all our outlets «work» and deliver electricity but ALL of them have to be replaced because the plugs fall right out of the sockets. We were disappointed these things were missed but I guess no one can find everything wrong with a home. Overall we found them very helpful when purchasing our home.
