Action Car Rental

This is hands down the worst experience I’ve ever had renting a car. I booked it through Expedia, lured in by a $ 200 price for a week long car rental in NYC. When we arrived at the rental counter the salesperson told us that the $ 200 price didn’t include their additional MANDATORY car insurance for another $ 21 a day (even though we had our own), or the ridiculous $ 200 deposit. What we thought would be a budget price quickly jumped to more than most reputable rental companies… over $ 600 for the week. In addition, the salesperson was really rude and actually rolled her eyes and laughed when we tried to use our credit card’s coverage instead of their insurance. All this was bad enough but it was only the beginning. The car we were given was not even in legal driving condition. The left indicator light was out, the rear tires were bald, the windshield wiper was bent, there was no washer fluid, and we keep having to refill the tires with air. When I called the company headquarters they were unsympathetic and only offered that we could drive the car back in to exchange it which is well over an hour’s drive each way.
If you’re looking to save a buck you won’t do it here. Pay a lot more for a wreck of a car, lousy customer service, and hidden fees. Long story short, DO NOT RENT HERE.

What an amazing experience! Melanie was the administrative contact there and handled my rental with speed and professionalism that was unparalleled. I support smaller businesses and this is why, you get friendly, awesome service and meet great people while doing it. And last but not least, their prices couldn’t be beat. I had a beautiful car with all the bells and whistles for the price that the «big boys» charge for a teeny car. 5 stars for Action Car Rental by Laguardia Airport and I will definitely be renting from them again…

Action Car Rental is built to give their clients the highest of white glove car rental services. I found Actions sign up process was quick and smooth. My car was a flashy 2016 model that was clean, very low milage and in perfect driving condition. I will use Action Auto again when I fly into New Yorks La Guardia airport.

I rented a car for the weekend from Action. I was very happy with the service and experience! The lady at the front desk was very nice and made me feel comfortable. I got a Mustang for the weekend — great car. They have the best deal at LaGuardia. I would go back

Third time renting from Action. The counter agent Melanie is nice and gives you a secure feeling. The rate was very good and the car was ready as soon as I arrived.

Horrible Horrible experience. Waiting for over an HOUR in the freezing cold for a shuttle to come to Laguardia airport. The lady said «green & white Holiday Inn van», turns out it was a BLACK van with a 8.5×11 paper that said «Holiday Inn». It’s located in the back of a Holiday Inn. Also they don’t tell you that the gas will cost $ 7.95 a gallon if you don’t return it full tank. THey also charge you $ 250 as a deposit which gets charged to your card in addition to the fee. I got a deal on priceline for $ 171, ended up paying $ 252 (over $ 81 in gas) for a tiny compact car. PLUS, the car had HUGE damage on the side… I’m assuming the car was in an accident earlier and the entire side of the car was smashed in. Even if Hertz, Budget or any other reputable car rental company charges a bit more, just pay the extra and go with them. Absolutely ridiculous.

Didn’t realize it was supposed to snow today. Walked over to this rental office looking for an SUV last minute. The employee was able to get me an SUV sent from their JFK office within the hour. I was grateful for the effort made as I needed to travel to NJ to pickup my grandparents from Newark airport and the other rental agencies didn’t have a large SUV at the time. I was skeptical using the service as they have some pretty unstellar reviews. But the employees were very nice and the suburban I got was exactly what I needed. I’ll be coming back here, try out their service for yourself.

I rent from Action at this location quite frequently… pretty much every time I come into town on business, which is once a month or so. I always get in and out very quickly and their staff is incredibly friendly and helpful (especially the manager Luis, who I have come to know.) If you have a special request — do not hesitate to ask. They have always been super accommodating with my requests. Their cars are very well kept and clean (something I am very picky about!) I usually rent an economy car and find that their prices are, on average, around 15%-20% lower than the major companies. I highly recommend giving them a try!

One word sums of the experience: CRAP. Go with a more reputable company bc the extra $ will be worth avoiding the headache.
The vehicle I was given had the low oil light go on a day after I took off it needed 1.5 quarts of oil and on top of that the tire pressure sensor went off multiple times despite refilling the tires. When I first filled up the tires one tire had 7psi!!! Talk about a major safety issue!
I called to get a replacement vehicle and told they weren’t open so they would call me back. Never got a call back.
In the end I got refunded the $ I spent to replace the oil myself. Honestly with all the hassle I probably should have been comped for half the days I rented the car.

Use there service on a regular basis (twice a month) at their downtown Manhattan office with good experiences each time. This time I had an Uncle staying at the hotel their located in (Holiday Inn) next to LaGuardia Airport. We were walking through their lobby and I noticed the Action Car Rental sign. I popped into the office and their was one of the employees that I normally see at the Manhattan location. She recognized me and we caught up. My Uncle and I didn’t really have a plan for that day so she suggested we take car ride out to the Hamptons for some wine tasting and shopping. That’s just what we did! My uncle rarely comes out to NYC so he had a great time that day. Thank you Melanie! Great place, don’t let the 1 star reviews discourage you.

I wish I could give 0 stars, like the other Unilocalers here. They gave us a car in terrible condition and I’m shocked that this company is still in business. How dare you let anyone drive off your lot with a car that has little to no brake pads (we could hear the rotor grinding), a service engine light on, and terrible wheel alignment?
Right now we are stuck in North Carolina because we simply don’t feel safe driving this hunk of junk back. I’ve been on hold for 15 minutes and have not been able to speak to a manager yet.

Do not rent from this company.
I rented a mini van from this location. The van had so much damage, I took photos of this thing. there was not a single panel that was not damaged. the rear tail light was burned out, the brakes are dangerous and the interior was dirty to say the least.

Do not rent here. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. The woman behind the desk today when we were returning our car looked annoyed that we were interrupting her personal phone call on her cell phone. Told us the driver for the shuttle to the airport would come in and let us know every 20 minutes. He didn’t. This girl should be fired, we seemed to be such a pain to her. 40 mins later we are on the shuttle. Had a car that’s hood was bent and would ding after going over 20 mph? Stay away.

This was by far the worst rental company we’ve ever been through. The car they gave us had nearly 100,000 miles and got up charged with all these little fees and what not. On top of that, the car was not clean on the inside, the steering wheel shuddered when ever we hit the brakes, and the trunk latch was broken. Customer service is atrocious and not worth it. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for a rental.

This place the most horrible place you can rent a car from. They wanted to give a broken car to begin with. Then they want to charge XYZ fees even though you’re booking the car online for a certain amount. They have a poor lack of customer service. The lady sitting at the desk doesn’t move her fat ass for anything. She doesn’t even look up at the customer until she is greeted because she is so damn busy with something much more important. The man giving you the keys to the car has an attitude problem. Who wants to go and have customer experience with people these?!? Stay away their only cheap I guess there is fine print somewhere the have hiding. Oh and the best part when you call customer service no one answers they cut the line simply. Never going back!!!

Would give less than one star if it was possible. Pickup experience was fine and the car was fine. Return experience was absurdly bad. Got there and there was nowhere to park. Went inside to find out where to park and no one was at the desk. Caught the worker on her way out the door – she was closing up shop at 5:30 even though our rental wasn’t due until 11:30. She was rude, obnoxious, and aggressive. She accused us of lying about the time the car rental was due. She tried to force me to parallel park the car on a busy road (where it can get banged into or broken into and then you’ll charge me out the wazoo? No thanks). When I refused and asked if I could double park or park in a handicap spot in the lot, she told me she would fine me. Twenty minutes later after she fought with my husband, she got the hotel manager to OK us parking in the handicap spot. DO NOT book through this company – and be aware that I booked this through Priceline as Economy Car Rental.

Beware! Reserved and prepaid for a car thru
. All was fine until I returned the vehicle and my CC was charged an additional $ 300+ under a different car rental company name. Customer Service admitted the mistake but never adjusted the amount to my card. Weeks of phone calls later with no help from the unfriendly staff I finally had to dispute the charge through my CC company.
Very sketchy company. Beware!

Can start with the fact that I am not sure how the rental car experience will be as I am still at the airport after 40 minutes and 3 phone calls.
