Loved the downtown area and the old fashion feel of the building. Ordered our door to go so we could sit outside. We ordered the BBQ Panini and Greek salad. The panini was really THREE sandwiches the bread was so big. Simple but really good. The Greek Salad was good and you are given two stuffed grape leaves with it. So good! A little expensive for lunch but if you share the panini your are set!

Quirky and cozy décor and friendly service. The«Globe» sandwich was fantastic — sprouts, lettuce, avocado, tomato on delicious bread. Nice quantity for a great price.

Hot gumbo on a cold rainy day hits the spot! Everything we tried was fresh and tasty. Their«small plates» appear to be great picnic food for our next visit. Do yourself a favor and stop here! *Returned for lunch and tried the Stueben Rueben everyone raves about on Unilocal.Definitely a good choice as was the Mediterranean.

I love vintage style restaurants and cafes. Old World hits the nail right on the head with this one! Huge sandwiches, great menu selection for lunch. Good salads, good ice cream, good candy and GREAT pies. The atmosphere is really cool and when it is nice you can walk right outside and sit on Centerway Square. I can’t complain, but the ordering/paying and counter area gets a bit crowded. I wish there was a better way to go through the process. Overall a great choice for lunch or dessert!

Husband and I stopped in for coffee after a morning at CMoG and an afternoon of shopping. Ordered at the front counter-2 double espressos. The young waitress asked me if I wanted a small or a large. I replied–«whatever size cup you need for a double espresso.» Not too swift. The espressos arrived, lukewarm and mediocre. Husband went to the counter to pay and couldn’t get any of the waitresses to cash him out. We put our $ 6 on the table and left. Neat old-fashioned atmosphere. Not-so-neat service or quality. Maybe the ice cream is better. Go somewhere else for a good coffee.

First visit: Love this place! The atmosphere was perfect, like stepping back in time. The food was really great too. … After a couple more visits: the staff is less than friendly on quite a few occasions, and they get snotty about their early closing times.

Awesome wraps and paninis. Finding a seat is difficult during lunch times so you may want to order the food in a to go bag just in case.

Ate here for lunch recently. Had the soup/sandwich combo and it was perfect. Best tomato soup I’ve had in a while! Will definitely come back next time i’m in Corning.

So I sign up for Unilocal the other day to find out about the restaurants in my own town of Corning… And I see like 5 places that I’m interested in, and I pick this place for lunch today – The Old World Café & Ice Cream restaurant. I am here now, just finished half of the South Street Sub, and some straciatelli soup. Thanks go out to Dan who did a review back in Sep 2010 and recommended this place(and the sub I ordered… see below). I agree with Dan about the S St Sub – it is great! Ham, turkey, salami, Swiss+American, lettuce, tomato, onion in a perfect roll(not too hard, not too soft). The best part about this sub is that you can actually taste the meat and lettuce, even though I had them put on 3 of the 4 dressings(mayo, oil, and oregano; didn’t get the mustard). Usually when you get a sub they’re super-messy, you know? But not with the S St Sub. I got some straciatelli soup too(based on another reviewer’s recommendation). It is fine noodles, egg, onion, Parmesan in chicken broth – was so good. This place is just what any visiting tourist or townie(like myself) would hope for in a café: awesome food, plus a pleasant waitress(thanks Marissa!), clean eating area, and relaxing(jazz) music playing in the background. Don’t miss the Old World Café & Ice Cream! By The Way 1: Chris, the owner, stopped by my table to check on things… much appreciated. BTW2: I plan on getting a brownie to go and ice cream here before I leave.

Fantastic atmosphere filled with kind people. I loved my Turkey Töst Panini. My wife got the Harvest Blue Salad and that was quite tasty as well.

Steuben Rueben rocked. Was huge however. 3 pieces. Would buy again. Wife had turkey and avocado. That was a bit plain bit refreshing. Kiddo had peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich. Don’t know how to judge that be she didn’t complain. Would come out of the way to return. Ice cream shop too.

We really liked the old school décor and atmosphere. The candies displayed at the front really added to the old time ice cream parlor feel. It really suits the lazy town. The food were all pretty good. Shrimp & Chicken Gumbo soup had nice bold flavors, but just a tad too salty. The Globe sandwich had Havarti cheese, avocado, tomato, lettuce, cucumbers, mayo, and sprouts. Really good light sandwich for a hot day. The creamy Havarti gave just the right amount of savory. And of course, we had to have ice cream. We got the Sea Salt Caramel. It’s one of our favorite ice cream(and macaron) flavors and we’re pretty picky about it. This one was good. Flavor was spot on and neither too sweet nor too salty. Wish we had room for more ice cream!

My wife and I strolled past the Old World Café once or twice while considering lunchtime restaurants, and then decided to stop in. We were in the mood for a non-hamburger type place, and Old World Café seemed a bit on the twee side, but hey, we were on vacation, so why not give it a try. We were unexpectedly delighted by the food. The shop itself is on the adorable side, so we were prepared for something«less than» after the shop drew us in, but the sandwiches were really, really good. I mean, you could have a turkey sandwich anywhere, right? But the turkey was great, the multi-grain bread was really tasty, and the honey mustard was delish. The homemade soups were fresh and hearty, and the chicken salad was clearly made in-house with fresh ingredients. The soup and mini-sandwich was a perfect size for a middle-aged lady. And why not splurge on a cherry cola float? Absolutely worth it.

I had a delicious chocolate malted shake, one of my friends had a great strawberry shake. But we had two issues with the place, one of my friends had the ice cream cone, and the ice cream was kept too cold, and the service was very ineficient. We were aware that it was a busy weekend and I don’t mind a long wait in those circumstances, but an ice cream parlor should have a better handle on keeping orders going, and who has paid.

Old World Café presents itself as more of an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, its really cool almost like out of an old movie! The restaurant is old-fashioned booths, tile floors, tin ceilings and an long old wooden bar. The front area is where ice cream and candy stuff are They have a wide menu offering paninis, salads, sandwiches and other goodies. Ive had a few different things like the chicken bruschetta sandwich in the tomato wrap, The Mediterranean turkey, roasted peppers, olive tapenade, lettuce, & feta cheese dressing, are the two most recent I have had and they were excellent. MY only gripe is it isnt open for dinner :) I would encourage you to give this place a try!

My friend and I were hanging out in Corning and looking for a nice late morning lunch/brunch option on a recent Sunday, but kind of bummed to find that such a thing doesn’t really exist in the Gaffer District(which is actually a bit of a surprise). In running down the(brief) list of local dining options, Old World Café came up and seemed like a decent choice. It ended up being a very pleasant surprise given the quality and thoughtfulness we found in the food we ordered. Old World Café presents itself as more of an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, and you notice that when you walk in. The restaurant is antique-style with old-fashioned booths, tile floors, tin ceilings and an long old wooden bar. The front area is where ice cream and sweets are sold(we liked picking up some old-fashioned candies on the way out), and there’s an area a bit further to the back-left that has a deli-type counter with an interesting menu offering panini, salads, sandwiches and other savory goodies. They also sell an assortment of interesting gourmet food items and cookbooks including imported specialties. I went for an avocado and chicken salad sandwich which was excellent. Everything was well-seasoned and the bread was nice and fresh. I was even kind of impressed/surprised that it was served with a generous portion of Terra chips on the side. If you’re in Corning looking for an interesting, relatively healthy lunch option, Old World Café would be a great choice!
