M & T Bank

My experience with M & T Bank’s Corning branch hasn’t been great, especially during our recent home mortgage process. We had considered M&T for our home mortgage, they were competitive with the rate and fees and we’ve been customers for years. Our real estate agent recommended against it, indicating that they are slow to close and our bid included a closing date of less than 2 months. We chose another mortgage originator.
FHA and HUD required that we have signed and stamped account statements if they were coming directly from a local branch office. I called M&T’s Corning branch and spoke to someone who identified herself as the branch manager. I explained what I needed and she immediately asked if M&T was originating the mortgage. When I said no, she refused to provide the signed and stamped documents. She said that she couldn’t allow her tellers to take that kind of responsibility for the statements. I ended up having to go to another branch to get the forms I needed and they gave me no problem.
I hate to give this branch such a low rating. But this instance, when I really needed them to help me with a simple request, left a very bad taste in my mouth and I still avoid going to this branch.
