Established in 1991.

For more than 20 years, 1^st Class Montessori School has led the way in understanding, respecting and teaching children of multiple ethnic backgrounds using the Montessori method. We believe that Montessori fulfills their need to be independent, creative and individuals, and we incorporate other best teaching strategies so students are prepared for any academic setting. Our students receive individual attention because our classroom sizes are small, allowing teachers the freedom to focus on what’s most important — making sure students receive a first-​class education. First Class Montessori School was founded by Evelyn Thorpe-​Hibbler, who believes that all children can learn when given the opportunity.

We are certified as an American Montessori School, affiliated with the American Montessori Society and accredited by the Tennessee Department of Education.

Business Owner

Evelyn Thorpe-​Hibbler is an experienced teaching professional of more than 30 years. Thorpe-​Hibbler received her BM from Lincoln University, Masters in Music Education from Memphis State University and Montessori Certification from Seattle University. Thorpe-​Hbbler founded First Class Montessori School in 1991 in a Victorian-​style home in the Annesdale Park and Central Gardens Historic District in Midtown Memphis. A second location opened in 2008 in Cordova, Tenn. She believes that all children can learn when given the opportunity.
