Our go-to spot for real burgers, good drink specials, popcorn/peanuts, and everything else you’d expect from a great local hole in the wall. Staff is always friendly and attentive, it can get pretty busy so may not be the quickest but never had any issues. They’ve been renovating/investing the last few years(new booths, tables, interior upgrades) and it’s the nicest dive you’ll find in the area!

The burgers are the best burgers in the area. Service is a little slow but we’ll worth the wait! This place is packed for a reason. Definitely will be back!!!

Everything about this place was mediocre to well below average. The service was poor, I can’t even remember how long it took to get offered a beverage. We didn’t order much but I almost regretted not giving her my order the first time she came around. I’ve heard from other people to come here for the burgers but I must say I was highly disappointed. I’ve had better burgers at fast food restaurants.(And heck, maybe even better service at those other places). The burger was over-cooked. The«Chicago style hot dog» was nothing like the types of hot dogs I’ve had in Chicago. Even the deep fried hot dog was over-fried and came out on a bun with onions sprinkled on top. It even seemed like they were too lazy to even cut the onions into pieces(some of the chunks were so big they just fell off the bun). Overall disappointment, would not come back and would not recommend to anyone either.

When it comes to burgers, I’m a tough critic. The Shortstop has some of the best burgers around! Not only are the toppings fresh and prepared well, but the beef itself has great flavor! Flavorful beef isn’t something you’ll find at the chain restaurants. I recommend their Works burger! I put Shortstop burgers up there with Olé Piper, Blue Door and Shamrocks!

Literally the worst service I’ve ever had. Came for bingo and they came around 3 times with about 45 minutes between each stop. Never asked if I wanted anything more than water and I was never offered food. Looking around, there were no servers in sight. As I’m leaving, it’s probably best I didn’t get anything as EVERYTHING is frozen. Disgusting.

IPA beer and 2 kinds of hard cider. Rippers(deep fried hot dogs) and tots, kettle chips or French fries. Happy hour 3 to 7PM. They had a meat raffle when we got here, yes really! Pretty lively Friday for happy hour. After 50 minutes we do not have our food. Happy hour is over and everyone is leaving.

I really don’t like writing bad reviews, but here it is. This place is located off the beaten path in Coon Rapids. I’m lucky I brought my gps or I never would have found it. There is no sign on the building. Décor — generic sports bar in need of cleaning. Service — I am sure the staff means well, but the tables were not clean. Not just a crumb or two — I mean dirty. I tried to scrape my table off with a napkin upon sitting down. When the server arrived they noted the napkin and picked it up but did not even wipe the table. Seriously? Food — We ordered appetizers. Boneless wings and Poppers. They were the generic out of the freezer variety that you can buy at the store. Prepackaged dipping sauces. Basically just«phone it in» bar food. Beer — domestic selections. They had Grain Belt Nordeast — worth a 2nd star. With so many awesome burger places in the metro I am not sure I will get a chance to sample their burgers.

The shortstop is the«cheers» of COONRAPIDS. My whole family has been going for years burgers bingo and beer. They have worked hard to create the hometown feel. The Fridley location is another great meet place.

Awesome burgers and tater tots, great drink specials, and friendly staff. There’s popcorn, a jukebox, pull tabs, and some video games. It can get loud and crowded like any bar, but that’s to be expected.

Somewhat small and can be hard to get a seat. But they do have darn good burgers. I’ve always liked the tots too. Wait time can be long for food, but the drinks are usually cheap — just show up knowing you’ll be hanging out for awhile. The women’s bathroom is terrible, there are a lot of parts of this place that could be updated. But you know, it’s part of the dive bar charm. The burgers make it worth it.

Best burgers anywhere! Huge, juicy, tasty and loaded with toppings. Go when Juan is manning the grill and you’ll be able to die happy. One note, chose the tots once and they were old and hard. Stick with the fries.
