Average Joe’s Archery

I started going to Joes 2 months ago after I bought a brand new PSE DNA online from a DIFFERENT DEALER in a different state. During the tuning we found an issue with the bow and they are a PSE dealer. So even though I bought it somewhere else Joe Tom Andy and Dave all stepped up and got my issues handled beyond what I had expected.
I have read a few reviews from people saying they have been scolded and talked down to. I have heard that tone of voice a few times and you know what? It’s to keep the other patrons safe. Bows are not guns but they are deadly none the less. Pay attention to the rules, follow them and they are more than helpful and respectful.
The shooting range is very adequate and I haven’t found another inside range that reaches to nearly 40 yards. They also do a huge 3d league on Thursdays and Fridays which is a ton of fun.
Overall I really enjoy going there. The regulars are easy to talk to, they have some great technicians and will help you tune your bow and answer any questions you have.
Overall I have been very happy going there and hanging out and shooting and chatting with people. I highly recommend them.

Well that was fun! We arrived a couple minutes before noon for our two hour range time along with 30 minute digital hunting experience. My boyfriend and I haven’t done archery since summer camp in the 90’s and my how bows have changed!
Anyway, Michelle was extremely helpful and not intimidating at all despite our extreme beginner status. She grabbed us a couple bows and we looked at the range hoping we would be placed at the end of the row instead of smack dab in the middle of these pre-​teens that already knew what they were doing.
What I appreciated was never feeling like we were being snickered at or made fun of each time my arrow would ping of the top of the target.
The digital hunting experience was really fun but I’m very convinced that my targets were more difficult than his… or so it seemed.

Terrible customer service. Tried to get a hold of someone for more than two months and nobody bothered to call us back. When we finally did get a hold of someone, the owner was condescending and less than helpful. Will be looking for a different archery range that offers better customer service. Would not recommend.

Joe should give himself a little more credit… how about «A Little Above Average Joe’s» or «Joe’s — We Don’t Suck!»? Because this place offers activities outside of the norm in a fun, casual setting. Also, from what I heard, Joe is a full-​time badass, as he is a firefighter in addition to owning a business focused around weaponry. Again, not so average.
I took my boyfriend here to celebrate his Dirty Thirty. A surprise party would be his living nightmare, but shooting things is a dream come true. So when I found this place, which is about 10mins from our house, I knew I had to make a reso and practice hitting vitals together. I’m a hopeless romantic! Speaking of resos — I advise calling ahead and making some as they are very busy lately due to groupons and specials.
Joe was not there (too busy saving lives, sorry), but a really awesome older gentleman showed us the ropes. I don’t remember his name but I do remember his birthday is coming up ha. He gave us ample instruction and was available for any questions and requests. We started by shooting arrows at the paper targets… and turns out I’m a killing MACHINE. I’m exaggerating (a little!) of course, but you might as well just try to stay on my good side…
We did a «TechnoHunt» session for an additional $ 15 for two. My boyfriend really enjoyed this. You use the same bow you practiced with and just switch to non-​pointed arrows and shoot at moving images on a screen. You rack up points according to your hit. There are soooo many scenes to choose from, and you can also add elements like wind. 4 out of 5 stars because some updates in the place could do them good. And the software of Technohunt was pretty slow, especially with transitioning between scenes. But I had a good time and would like to go back realllll soon!

We got a groupon to shoot for 2 hours. They provided decent bows and gave some instruction. They had good feedback on how to improve our aim and grips. They were kind of pushy about buying bows when we mentioned we want to get into bow hunting. We had fun, and enjoyed the digital hunting for an extra $ 15 as well.
They seem extremely knowledgable about their products and gear. We are considering heading back for gear when we’re ready.

Absolutely fantastic service. Best part about joes is they cater to first timers just as well as veterans. I’m sure they always get people coming back. I have brought a lot of first time shooters that are my friends with me and they all loved it
Pros: great job easing first time shooters nerves by being nice.
Cons: really don’t have any to be honest

My husband and I went to Average Joes a couple of years ago for our Valentines date. We had never shot bow and arrow and were interested in trying. The 2 Joes were working that night and it wasn’t very busy. I should note that this was before they had league 5 nights a week. We were warmly welcomed and outfitted with basic equipment right away. The Joes were super friendly, helpful, and non-​judgmental. They gave us tips and even cheered me on when I hit a Robin Hood during the session. They let me keep the smooshed arrows! We are both regular archers even though we no longer live in MN. Compared with what we have access to in IL, Average Joes is awesome. It’s hard to find a 40 yard range with 3D interchangeability. I am thankful for such a great first experience which led my husband and I to truly enjoy the sport. We love Average Joes and are happy for the success they have found in Coon Rapids.

I used to take, and later teach, archery lessons at a summer camp. That doesn’t mean I’m particularly good at it, but it does mean I know a good environment for new archers or those giving it a go after a several-​year hiatus.
I missed shooting, so I snapped up a deal for two hours plus equipment rental and took a friend along. When I called to schedule a time, they were full up on Sunday mornings for a few weeks out, so if you’re renting equipment, you definitely want to plan ahead. Otherwise, making a reservation was a breeze.
Joe greeted us, told us what our options for bows were, gave us an overview of range rules and shooting, and helped us get started right away. I read the reviews before I went, and I’m happy to say that neither I nor my friend, both women, were treated with condescension. We were given instruction appropriate to our level of experience, and helpful pointers a couple times throughout our two hour shooting time, which was appreciated. As far as I could tell, everyone there on Sunday morning (which got progressively busier and included everyone from old hat bowhunters with their own equipment to middle grade kids trying it out) was treated with respect. Joe and Josh were both helpful and knowledgeable.
The equipment options were better than expected. We were given a choice of recurve, basic compound, or hunting compound bows, and for simplicity’s sake we opted for the basic compound, which were in good repair. I received an arrow with a loose fletching, but they swapped it for me when I asked. I do wish they’d have offered the use of an arm guard when we got our bows, because my friend got snapped by her string a few times, but that’s just as much our fault: we both mentioned we’d shot before but didn’t ask for an arm guard, and even though I urged my friend to ask if they had one later, she didn’t want to once we’d started.
Overall, even though Coon Rapids is quite a drive from the Cities, I’ll be back whenever I get a nostalgic urge to shoot some targets.

I’m truly baffled that are two five star reviews here, especially one from a woman. I came here with two friends, a married couple (this is relevant later), we even had a reservation for two rentals and three lanes (I have my own bow). We showed up 5 minutes late for our hour and a half rental period. Got lectured for being late and he made a big ordeal about how he supposed he could find us room. Again, we had a reservation for three from 3:30−5pm, there should have been room already. Not to mention there was only two other people shooting. Plus apparently our timing was bad as junior league started soon and we’d have to make room for the kids. Good information to have had when we made the reservation, too bad we didn’t get it then. I have a trad bow, which needs stringing, Ron offered once to string it for me when I first walked in. I declined. When I went to string my bow, he offered again, I declined again. He then took my bow out of my hands and did it for me. WTF?! He explained that women often have trouble stringing their bows and not to worry about it. I questioned his sanity at saying that and then handing me my weapon back (silently). He assumed my friend’s husband was her son (he is taller and older than her). He marveled at a different woman’s accuracy and ability to grip the bow effectively (because «women have smaller hands so it’s harder for them to hold onto the bows well») and did not correct her form when she started shooting with her elbow up in the air, but any of the guys who had bad form got friendly suggestions. When he saw me leaving, with my bow unstrung, he commented with surprise, that he was impressed I got it unstrung on my own. He again grabbed it out of my hands to look at it. My only satisfaction from the day, seeing his eyebrows go up when he realized how strong of a trad bow I shoot and that I had shot round after round on it for an hour or so. If I could give this place negative stars I would. I will never go back and do what I can to prevent others from going as well. Oh, and the lanes are ridiculously narrow, really awkward to notch an arrow when you have no elbow room. I could say more but I think I covered the truly awful, the rest just blended in with the general terribleness of the place (like the kitchen being temporarily shut down due to health code violations).

After searching for a couple days and scoping out my archery range choices, I decided to try out Average Joe’s Archery for my refresh into archery. To begin with I want to say they were completely helpful on the phone when I called to make the appointment and after speaking with David for a while he suggested that I wouldn’t even need the whole private lesson from my past experience. Then I called to tell them I would be late due to horrible traffic; they responded understandingly and said it’s fine and just get there when I can.
When I finally got out of traffic and arrived, they greeted me warmly and made me feel at home. I started on a trigger release, which he gave me the option to try and i took it, but after a few shots I didn’t like it so I switched to a regular compound bow. I fell in love with the bow and wanted one in purple so I ordered one and should be there Tuesday or Wednesday.
In all I would say this was one amazing experience and the people at Average Joe’s Archery are incredible helpful and are very good at what they do. I would defiantly recommend this to anyone.

My Girlfriend and I went to average joe’s today and shot some arrows. It was a lot of fun and they were pretty easy going and were very helpful. They sized our bows for us and gave us the options of different bows. what surprised me was that the bows were high quality. Or at least seemed to be (I’m a newbee). The arrows of course have been through some use but that’s the same as range balls in golf (unavoidable).
I highly recommend Average Joe’s for your dates. At least for those who are looking for something unique to do on a date.
