Painting with a Twist

My best friend brought me here with her church group and we all had so much fun!!! Tricia was our instructor and she was so personable, friendly, and encouraging. We had a «design your own cross» class so we had a lot of creative freedom in what we did. I walked around for a bit prior to the class and knew exactly what I wanted to do. Even though Tricia had to stick with a specific template to instruct the class, she still made her rounds to lend a friendly hand to those of us that deviated from the original design. Another great thing was that even though our class ran a little late, we didn’t feel rushed and we all got our paintings completed and dried before we left. This place is super fun, even for the artistically challenged. I used to paint quite a bit and forgot how much I really enjoyed it, but with PWAT and Tricia, I was pleasantly reminded. We’ll definitely be back for more fun times. Oh and one last note, even the owner made her rounds to check out the class which was nice to see; it’s not common for an owner to work that closely with the customers in such a busy place.

Booked this location for a class that I teach and the owner confirmed me on the phone a couple of months ago.
«Consider yourself confirmed», she said exactly and I have the audio of the conversation on my cell.
I also have a history of our text messages going back and forth since January.
My class is this coming Monday and I called to find out if I need to have coffee catered and the owner said that because I didn’t have a contract she couldn’t help me.
FOUR days from my class date and she tells me she knew about it but I can’t conduct my training class. She was extremely rude to me as well and then accused me of being rude to her. (Yes! That conversation is recorded as well!!)
Just because I knew what she said to me and I knew that I had recorded my conversations, I didn’t stress out over another confirmation. She has had my cell phone number and could have called me at any time.
So today, when I got the news I was upset. FOUR DAYS AWAY! About 40 people attending and many from law enforcement and legal careers locally and out of state have pre-​paid for seats.
Just to make sure I wasn’t crazy I went back through my journal for organizing this event and found all the dates and times that I spoke to the owner and Amanda. I went back through my call logs and found the recordings for those conversations.
I listened to all the recordings content and found the sentence the owner spoke, «Consider yourself confirmed…» and just thought that it was sad to be such a poor business owner.
The new owner isn’t without some blame as well because I had someone go there in April and she took a class and spoke with Ananda and another woman who knew who I was and discussed the class.

I am grateful for the hotel in The Woodlands that could accommodate me on a short notice. And they also don’t require a contract in advance.

The new owner contacted my boyfriend, and we worked out the issue. I am excited to give the new owner and this establishment a second chance.

My rating would be much better if my experience had been different. I took my daughter (age 13) and my son (age 11). I was told I could not help out my kids, or comment, or point at their paintings. I understood, and I’m sure they get a lot of critical, overbearing parents that should get out of the way and let the creative process just happen. BUT my son is autistic and at times will hit a bump in the road. The person working was nice and helpful in the beginning, but would fuss if I would point at my son’s painting. I could tell as his mother that he was beginning to break down and get frustrated and then I had the «pointing nazi» in my ear telling me not to help him. She would pick up a brush and paint on his painting so why couldn’t I just make suggestions to help him out? So my advice is to stand up to anyone telling you not to help out your kid if it will make the whole experience better. BTW, their paintings turned out so cute and I will cherish them forever and I hope that eventually I can forget about that lady when I look at them.

LOVED IT! Went for my first time last night with a couple of friends and we had a great time. It’s a good value, lots of fun, great music, and the instructor was helpful. Everybody should do this.

Honestly, I was not expecting much from the experience other than to have a few beers and attempt to paint. But… it was so much fun! The instructor was really nice and was willing to give some of those who needed a little more guidance some help. I even did a fairly good job on my painting, the Tuscon Patio.
The only thing I would change is the price, if is was just a little cheaper I’d go much more often! But all in all I’d recommend you go at least once!

What do you get when you blend byob and painting? A super fun time? I am sure many of you have heard of the wine and design places. I couldn’t resist when they offered up a Rita day on Cinco De Mayo. I decided it was time for me to take the plunge and check this place out.
I learned from conversing on their FB page that they would provide the Rita mix, we just needed to supply our own Tequila. I am in! This place is conveniently located off of Loop 336 straight across the parking lot from Academy sports behind Hunan Village. I say this because I unfortunately, tried to rely on Google map directions, that took me away from the Specs Liquor (yes, the one that is in the same plaza) and directed me towards East Conroe until I finally looked at the numbers and realized something didn’t seem right.
Long story short I ended up right back where I started. haha If I had only known, especially since I have been in that very same parking lot a million times in the last year and never realized that Painting with a Twist was right there. OK, enough about my silly misadventures.
Sheryl was the instructor that day and she was great! She kept us moving along at a steady enough pace that would enable everyone to walk out of there having finished their master piece. Participants that day were lucky enough to enjoy listening to Jimmy Buffet in concert at the Cynthia Woods Pavilion on Sirius. Margaritaville was the perfect song to fit our piece of art.
The way it works. You can check out the calendar and see what the design for the day is and pay $ 35 dollars to attend or you can get a group of 10 of your fun friends and pay for a private class where you can pick any design same price just custom selection.
Once you enter the brightly colored studio you are greeted with an assortment of their painting designs. I must say I was a bit skeptical about being able to create something I would actually want to put on my own wall in just two hours, but I pressed on nevertheless.
Believe me I had visions of childhood art class and my mother’s crowded fridge and I am definitely no Van Gogh. That said, Sheryl took us step by step and let’s be real, it’s not meant to be fine art. It is perfectly imperfect and your unique perspective on artwork.
As the evening progressed, there were a couple of drink breaks, and before you knew it times was up. We used hair dryers to ensure our cars didn’t turn into part of our design and then took group photos. I for one came solo and had an absolute blast!
I noticed a couple of designs I definitely want to come back and do. You should check out their Facebook Page or website because they always have fun themes.
Have a laugh, enjoy a glass, bring a friend or not, and paint to your heart’s content. I know I will be back.
