The Fairytailors

The FairyTailors do awesome work. The owner, Natalya is very friendly and provides excellent customer service ! I go here very often for alterations.

I have now had three bridesmaid dresses altered here, two of which needed extensive alterations. The work was done well, the dresses were completed on time, and the dresses looked just the same as the other dresses. For this last bridesmaid dress, which need everything from the top to the bottom to the belt worked on, I only considered taking it to the Fairytailors!

I went here for alterations for my Wedding gown. She was receptive to my wishes and had some good suggestions. The price was MUCH better than another place I had tried. I was very happy with the result.

The Fairytailors actually lived up to their magical name for me. The ribbon binding on my daughter’s blanket had frayed beyond repair, and the manufacturer no longer makes them in that color. They do, however, make them with a similar binding, so I had one on hand just in case. When «in case» happened and my inconsolable 3 year old told me that Dot needed to go to the doctor, I brought the old and new blankets to the Fairytailors. I said, «this is kind of an emergency. How fast can you replace this binding with the other? Money is no object.» (I would have made it an object at $ 50, lol, but seriously, who wants to listen to a broken-​hearted 3 year old cry all night if you don’t have to? I can cut out Starbucks for a few weeks to avoid that.)
Dot was repaired PERFECTLY within 3 hours, and the charge was $ 18. Um, rush order on a priceless object? SWEET. She was a little terse/​flustered, but she did quality work, on demand, EXACTLY as I asked, in less time than I expected, for less than half the price I was willing to pay. I have since taken several things in (jeans hemmed, dress taken in at waist, some stuff for my husband), and the quality of work is consistently awesome.
It sucks that others have had bad experiences and/​or felt that the service was under par. Yes, I have had to wait a couple of minutes after I walk in before someone comes to help me. But this is CLEARLY because they are actually um, altering things. The work room is visible immediately inside the store, and the sewing machines are hard at work every time I come in. When I give someone my expensive clothing to alter, I sure hope they don’t stop and start mid-​seam so they can take new jobs. The customer contact portion of a tailor’s job isn’t nearly as important as the quality of work they provide. I can wait 45 seconds.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. They committed fraud and stole from me. About a year ago, I was leaving on a trip and wanted to take this tunic/​shirt which was too long for me. Since Fairy Tailors were next to my nail place, I went there and asked if they could shorten the shirt/​tunic about 2 inches TODAY. They said yes, it would cost $ 20 and return in 2 hours.
After my nail appointment, I returned although only 1 hour had elapsed, but they had my shirt/​tunic ready! It was already in a plastic bag. When I saw the finish, I commented on how perfect it looked. I asked to see how much of the material they had taken off and the lady with an accent said «Oh, I threw it away. Did you want it?» I said «I guess not.» Took it home and packed it, but when I tried to wear it, I realized they had done NOTHING. The shirt/​tunic was the same length. They took my $ 20 and did no work. They are thieves.
I thought of going back and confront them but realized they would deny everything.
This has bothered me all this time. If they did it to me, they are doing it to others. Thank God for
where we can warn the public about unscrupulous businesses.

My wife takes our daughter to dance school nearby and this seemed like a convenient place to get our clothes altered. The location is convenient, but the experience was poor. The customer service was rude, there is a lady who works there with an accent and my wife walked in and introduced that she was new and wanted to inquire about fees and service. The lady quoted high fees and was overall rude and not friendly. We found a great place on Clayton Road in Concord, Hong Kong Lees. –Great service and fees were reasonable.

They do good work but that is overshadowed by poor customer service and high prices.

I bought some nice dress slacks, and needed to get them professionally hemmed. I took them to the Fairytailors because I liked the name and it was close by. I told the somewhat rude, abrupt lady that I like my pants on the long side. I guess she didn’t pay attention to that. I put them on and she literally put one pin in one side and said she was done. The place wasn’t busy and she’d been chatting with a coworker or friend when I came in, so I don’t see what the rush was. Anyways, I was able to pick them up them up the next day, so that was nice. I tried them on and they were well done, but I didn’t really like the length. They aren’t short enough that she did them wrong, but it would’ve been nice if she’d taken a minute to let me see how long she was going to make them. I couldn’t tell at all from the single pin that she stuck in it. I’ve been hemming my own pants since then. If I buy a nice pair, I’ll go to a place that’s higher rated on Unilocal.Lesson learned.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! Only gave them one star because I had to.
I live in Dublin, but couldn’t get a referral from anyone to have some tailoring done on a jumpsuit I bought for a big party. Three people recommended this place, so I drove out to have my alterations done. My sister met me there, because she also needed a top altered for the party. We came in 3 ½ weeks before the event so she would have plenty of time. I needed to have the legs hemmed, and have it taken in at the back. I should have known… she threw some pins in, never even looked in the mirror at the fit or anything and said I could step down. There was all this extra material ballooning down the back and in the front flopping over at the waist. She said not to worry, once it was taken in, it would be fine. When I stepped down, the pants were still a good 2 inches too long and I was stepping all over them (and i was in 4 inch heels also!) I showed her and asked that they be taken up more, before I fell and broke something. She threw a pin in and that was that. My sister put her top on, the lady threw some pins in and done. So my sister made arrangements to pick both items up a week and a half later. She goes in to pick up the items… and the freaking tailor said she thinks one of her other clients accidentally walked off with my sisters top. WTF? Are you kidding me? She tells my sister-«oh, she’s an honest client, I think i can get it back from her.» you THINK??? WOW!
So here we are. a week LATER, and 5 days out from the party.
A) I tried on the jumpsuit-​and it is a MESS! Looks like something someone in a beginning sewing class did. Material hanging EVERYWHERE. The back is so big, I had to lower my strapless bra half way to my waist, so it wasn’t hanging out the back. SO much material everywhere– I have to tuck it in the belt because I don’t have time to have it re-​altered. The back looks like i have giant TUMOR it balloons out so much. I am really hoping someone after the event, will even be able to fix her hot mess of a job.
B) and it’s now been a week, and my sister called to find out the status of her top… the freaking lady hasn’t even CALLED the client that she thinks took the top by mistake. WHAT? We have 5 days till the party. My sister had to rush order a second top. I don’t even know what to say. Besides the fact that this woman is a HORRIBLE tailor, she is an AWFUL business woman. Do NOT trust any garments to her.
Come to find out, the woman that everyone used that was the owner of this place before, now has a tailoring shop in Pleasant Hill. Wish we had known that before.
Save yourself the money, the hassle and the JACKED up clothes and go elsewhere.

The prices were a bit high for a simple straight pants hem, and the wait was about five days, which I wouldn’t have minded if they’d done the job properly. Unfortunately one pant leg is a good half inch longer than the other. I’ll be going to another tailor to have the their work fixed.

I don’t know how to begin describing how happy I am with the work I had done recently at The Fairytailors! What I asked of them sounded nearly impossible (in my mind) but they gladly accepted the challenge and produced beautiful work. This was no simple alteration; it was a complete transformation of a dress. Natasha always had a great attitude when I came in. I am happy with the turnaround time and the amount they charged was more than fair. I highly recommend The Fairytailors — they are the best place to go in the East Bay for all your tailoring needs.

Thumbs down. Had two expensive shirts tailored there. They botched the job on both. Sleeves too short. Makes me hesitent to go back with any clothing that i like or is expensive.

I’ve been the Fairytailors twice and both times had great service. Their prices are VERY REASONABLE, their work is outstanding and the turnaround time is very fast. 1 – 2 days for the items I brought in.

Unhelpful. I needed to have a zipper replaced and the woman told me to throw my vest away. So taking my business elsewhere.

I am glad I found The Fairytailors near where I work. It is conveniently located in the shopping center at the corner of Oak Grove Rd. and Treat Blvd (behind Wells Fargo Bank). The owner is very nice and the work is always done on time. Neat place, with parking area right in front. I recommend it!!!

I really liked The Fairy Tailors the first time I went. However, this time I am incredibly annoyed and will be returning to my old alteration place that’s farther away. I brought a dress in that needed to be taken in at 2 separate places (the waist and the bust). The pink slip they gave me said $ 12 for each listed alteration. The dress was for a birthday party and unfortunately I was running late the day of and my boyfriend generously offered to pick it up for me. I gave him $ 25 after double checking the receipt and called ahead to make sure that it was okay for him to pick up my item. The owner was nice on the phone and said that would be fine. This might be where the problem occurred. Maybe she knew that she could tack on an extra charge and he wouldn’t know to dispute it. So when I got home and he told me it was almost double what she originally told me I was incensed! The best part is that the owner took the pink copy that he gave her so I had no proof to show later. And on top of that one of the alterations was still too large. So I went back 2 days later (they are closed Sun/​Mon) and asked if I could get a copy of the receipt. The owner was very nice and did make me a copy. However, next to one of the $ 12 alterations was added an additional $ 18 which was not on the pink copy I had before. She also said that my boyfriend did not have the pink slip originally which I handed to him as he left to pick it up. When I asked her why my bill went from $ 24 to $ 42 she explained that it required more work. Adding padding to the bust of the backless dress was $ 12 but taking in the sides had gone from $ 12 to $ 30! I admit I know little about tailoring but that mark up seems a bit high (and even if it was legitimate I was quoted $ 12). A friend of mine goes there all the time and said taking her dresses in has never cost $ 30. So here’s the deal: Either she quoted me $ 24 but changed the price without calling to ask me, or she saw a chance to make extra money and was deceitful. I choose to believe the former which is still a terrible business practice. If extra work was needed, she should have called to let me know. I will never go to this horrible place again and I would recommend never going there to everyone I know which is exactly what I’ve done via Facebook and word of mouth. Also, the friend who recommend them said she had a problem with an alteration as well and that the owner went from nice to completely rude in a split second. Go somewhere else people. Now is not the time to run a shady business.

My daughters dance competition season kicked off last Saturday — two days AFTER her costume arrived at the studio. And, about three sizes too big.
Because I am sewing challenged, I immediately freaked out. I still had to rhinestone the costume and had no time to waste.
With a wave of his magic wand — my husband found The Fairy Tailors!
We showed up on Thursday evening, they had my daughters costume sewn to sweet perfection within an hour and a half! Natalya (and staff) was friendly and professional — and they did not even charge for the rush job they did!
I am happy to know that i can put my glue gun and safety pins away, and bring everything sewing related to these wonderful women!
I am happy to report that my daughters dance squad placed in many categories therefore, giving this review a very happy ending!

I went in for alteration after reading previous reviews. Alteration for jeans is expensive… $ 16.50 and takes 4 days.
When I asked the lady to give me an estimate for draperies, she got annoyed. She went on about how she could not do that. Even when I said I would provide the measurement and bring the fabric to show her.
She said it’s like me telling her to go a supermarket and get a bread… which one? which kind of bread?
It was my first time trying to get a work done for window covering. I had hoped that she could provide samples work, etc. She did not have to be that rude to me.
She’s no fairy… she’s scary. I prefer to take my business elsewhere where I would be more appreciated.

I came here to get several pieces altered. Aside from the awesome seamstresses, the items i got back were amazing and fit perfectly; I would definitely recommend this place, because the service is way worth the money spent, especially in my case, I believe.
