Our friendly family and staff strive to serving you the best Indian & Thai food in the Bay area. We specialize in authentic Thai and Indian curries to Traditional tandoori breads and meats. We are specially known for our Chicken Tikka Masala with a savory sauce and boneless chicken breast meat, Or try the Chicken Makhani which is another customer favorite. We also specialize in our signature Basil dashed items such as the Basil chicken or Basil seafood. The tandoor serves up warm fresh assorted breads such as the Garlic Basil Naan or our new delicacy the Goat Cheese Naan with fine goat cheese mixed with finely chopped Coreen and yellow onions. The chef’s special is called Cream Pepper Chicken which is marinated in cream, green chilis, fresh grounded pepper all served over a bed of fresh onions and green peppers. Our staff will happily recommend anything to match your taste buds regardless if its your first experience with us or to our provided cuisine.

History

Established in 2002.

Our business started with two friends who were dedicated on opening a business together. This is where the Hot Basil Café’ formed, a dual open kitchen cuisine under the ownership of M.D. Khalid who has been in the dining business for 30+ years.

Hot Basil, also called Holy Basil, Sacred Basil or Bai Graprow. A unique variety of Thai basil with a hint of mint and cloves. Often called hot basil because of its peppery taste, especially when very fresh.

Our Goal :

Hot Basil Café aims to bring a casual neighborhood restaurant to the Bay Area community that offers exotic and exciting cuisine in a friendly and comfortable/​Elegant atmosphere. We offer dishes that range from delicate and subtle to complex and spicy, from simple and traditional to refined and modern. We aim to provide a consistent and dependable dining experience that can be enjoyed by our guests, whether passing by for a quick lunch or celebrating a special occasion with family and friends.

Meet the Business Owner

Khalid M.

Business Owner

Leaving his birth country in Pakistan at a very young age of 15, Khalid’s ambition led him into London where he stayed in a one room flat the size of our closets in the US. There he worked in terminal 3 of London’s Heathrow International Airport. Traveling the world in a very young age, he met friends which later he would keep for the rest of his life. In the mid 70’s he came to San Francisco where he managed and helped a fellow friend with his restaurant business and eventually getting trapped in the Bay Area’s beauty, leaving London he started managing North India Restaurant which at the time was the best rated Indian Restaurant in the Bay Area, after giving 15+ years of hard work, he then decided to open the Hot Basil Café in 2002.

A family man on 4 children and a wife he maintains good ethics and top class service to all his new and old customers.
