A neighbor in the Heating and Cooling industry recommended this company to me as his relative had previously used the company.
After getting several estimates, I choose to go with AC Heating & Cooling on replacing my entire HVAC system. Raul, Kevin and Freddie delivered the up most in customer service and were very responsive to all of my needs. They ensured that everything meet or exceeded code and guaranteed their work. This was very important as we were about to sell our home and did not want any issues.
Every worker treated us with respect and patiently explained the whole process. Our city inspection went very smooth and the inspector commended AC Heating & Cooling work.
We were able to have a cool house for show during the heat waves this summer. I only wish I would have called them sooner to fix our system so I could have enjoyed it as well.
I highly recommend their work.

They were an hour and a half late on the first day they were scheduled. Then we rescheduled for a day later and a person came who seemed not inclined to do any service. They would not service my old furnace at all. He would not clean it out or change a filter. He only wanted to sell me a new unit. He would change the thermostat for $ 265, but said the thermostat was free with a new furnace.
I paid $ 45 for this non service to have a salesman come to my house.
Do not use this company.

I had my service done beginning of March of last year. I must say these guys worked really hard installing my AC unit on my brand new house. They were clean, efficient and thorough explaining what had to be done. I must admit it was expensive but what installation isn’t. They were clean and professional and highly recommend this company. I recommend this company to my girlfriend just last month and she had the same feedback.

My AC unit stopped working during our very hot concord heat waves.
When I called AC heating and cooling the response was great. They had a technician out to my house within 1 hour. They were very sympathetic, courteous, and professional.
My AC is running great and haven’t had any problems since. Another plus is that they also replace water heaters! My water heater also stopped working and I received the same kind of professionalism and great work ethic when they came out to replace my water heater.
I definitely recommend AC Heating and Cooling for your air conditioning, heating, and water heater needs!

AC units are like cars, they never break down when you are least going to need them, they always break on an emergency or 100 plus degrees weather like it was the case on my last visit to my parent’s home to see my bed ridden mother; I felt like I had just walked into a dry heat sauna. My parents are old now, it is hard for them to keep up with the maintenance of their house; it seem like on every visit I have to fix something for them because they can not take care of it no more or the times they do they end up paying too much for poor work like it was the case with their old broken down AC unit.
I made a few calls and since it was the weekend and hot as hell outside so it felt like all the places I called were too busy to help me or to give me good service over the phone. I felt so relieve when I call AC Heating and Cooling and a very sweet lady answer the phone and she showed felt sympathy over the phone tours me and my ill mother at home with a broken AC. I am sure she pulled some strings and had a technician come and give me a quote within a few hours.
Some how the technician got the old unit to work but told me it was just going to be temporary because I needed to get a new Unit. Getting a new unit is no joke when I got the quote I almost had a heart attack. I had to charge my credit card and told my parents to not expect a Christmas present from me in many years to come.

I needed a wall heater replacement for a 40+ year old unit. I had used AC Heating in the past. The workmen arrived on time were very efficient, very cooperative, and completed the work in a short period of time. The heating seemed to work satisfactorily.
My complaint is that AC Heating charged 30 to 40% over market rate for the same job.

They get 1 star because they were quick to respond to my rental for a A/​C that wouldn’t click on, and because 0 stars wasn’t an option.
He called and said his guys were there and the AC wouldn’t click on because it didn’t have Freon. I could see a lack of Freon making it blow warm air but not causing it to not click on. Anyways, he said $ 350 for a Freon charge. I asked if that was a competitive market rate, his response was «its our rate.» He then told me his guy had already waited for my response for too long and I needed to make a decision (the total wait time was less then 2 minutes while I was on the phone with him) I called another HVAC guy who said he charges $ 100-​$ 125 for a Freon charge and a lack of Freon wouldn’t cause the AC to not come on anyways.
I called my tenant to schedule another HVAC guy and the tenant told me the AC was working, the cover had come off the Heating Unit and I guess tripped the system on the HVAC. This company then tried to force the Freon charge on the tenant even though the AC started blowing cold air. My tenant called the serviceman a crook, took the words right out of my mouth.
Take the warnings from all the other people serious, this company is a joke. Horrible

I’m gonna be brutally honest to any future prospective customers. Do not make the mistake of wasting you time with this company. They have been out to my home twice. Now I’m not a novice to a/​c heating any cooling. My father has been in the business for 40+ years now, but he is out of state. So, I now how to fix and repair a/c’s, it’s just that it’s not my current choice of employment, so I can purchase parts to fix things myself. Ok about 2 months ago the blower on my furnace stopped working. After trouble shooting I determined it was the blower motor relay. Mind you my a/​c unit is 20+ yr old
unit. I called, set up appointment and tech was approx 2 hrs late. Stated he was stuck at another job. So, he arrives and tells me I need to have the board (which the relay is mounted on), on my furnace needs to be replaced. He orders another board and returns the next day. He tries to install the board and keeps blowing the fuses on the board. He asked me (the customer) if I had any fuses. And no I didn’t. He tells me I have a short in my furnace that keeps blowing fuses. I tell him the reinstall the old board so at least the a/​c can work. Miraculously, the old board works with no problem, Humm. Wonder why that short doesn’t fry the original board. After he leaves, I give my dad a call and ask him order a new and the correct board. 2 days later in installed the new board myself and it’s been working fine ever since.
So, this past sat. My a/​c stops working. My wife finds and old receipt and calls the company unfortunately not knowing of my previous encounter with them. After I get home she informs the a/​c stopped working and go and troubleshoot. This time I determined it was the, «Run/​Start capacitor that didn’t have enough current to start the compressor or the fan. Unfortunately, the same guy from the last encounter arrives. I tell him what the trouble is. He pulls out the meter and tell me, I have the correct voltage going to the motor. Which I had already checked and knew. The he proceeds to tell me I need a new fan motor and quotes a price of $ 495. While he was writing his invoice, I decided to call my father again to ask him if he could order and send me a capacitor and how much. After finding out how much the capacitor was I decide not to listen to the line of crap I was being fed anymore. I told the guy I would order my own capacitor and told him no thanks.
Well, I received my capacitor today. Installed it and my a/​c unit has been working fine ever since.
Now, I myself have some knowledge of a/​c and heating, those that don’t will most likely be taken for a ride. I HIGHLY ADVISE CAUTION IN CHOOSING THIS COMPANY. Dad’s getting all my business from now on, even if I have to wait a few days for pats to arrive.

Called late afternoon for an estimate and had my problem fixed by 5:30pm.Excellent Service… Will definetly keep their number and recommend them.

Like most posters here, I too had a terrible experience. After spending $ 2,000 on a new heating unit, it stopped working after only 5 years. I called AC Heating as they were the ones who installed it. They took a day to come out and diagnose the problem, then 3 days before they actually came back with the part. I called several times and was told they were on their way. When they finally came, installation took minutes and we were billed $ 500. Such a rip off. Wish I had checked Unilocal first. Lesson learned.

These guys are truly the worst of the worst. I called them last night after both my furnaces went out at the same time, so I assumed it was a power thing. The repairman came over, poked around a bit on one of them and declared the blower was bad, that it couldn’t be replaced (the furnace was 40 years old and they didn’t make blowers for them anymore) and wanted $ 2000 for a new furnace. Then he turned to the other one and after a few minutes decided that I needed to call an electrician, saying that he didn’t do electrical.
The next day, I called Guerrero Electric and the guy there told me that the problem was indeed within the expertise of an HVAC tech, so I called someone he recommended in El Cerrito, who came out within 20 minutes. He quickly determined that both transformers were fried and said he’d be out Monday to replace them. As an aside, he told me that had I needed a new blower for the first furnace, it would be no problem replacing it; I wouldn’t have needed to buy a new furnace.
Then I got a call from Daan at Fighting Amish Electric, who added that PG&E had been having power surges in my area and that that could be the problem. To safeguard against this sort of problem in the future, I’m having him come out to install a Full House Surge Protector.

AC Heating and Cooling Service did a fine job for us. They arrived promptly, assessed the situation (a dead furnace) and gave us the straight scoop on the problem. We opted to replace the heater, and after getting another estimate decided to go w/​AC. They worked quickly, cleanly, and charged an appropriate amount for the service and less than their competitor. The heater they installed is working great, much better than the old one ever did. I felt I was dealing with fair and honest people who knew what they were doing.

Service guy came out and tried to charge me $ 300 for a blower fan control + $ 180 for labor. The blower fan control only costs $ 50 !!! What a rip off!

My review isn’t pertaining to the actual service, which based on prior review it apparently sucks as well. My review is pertaining to the moronic driver that drove like a total idiot down the freeway cutting myself & others off. If you are driving in a company vehicle, with the name of your business & the phone # on the outside you should probably exercise some self control & maintain a level of professionalism! This company is clearly a joke. I will make a point to negatively address this company as often as possible so no one uses them! And to the jerk that drove like a moron in the rain, tailgating me & cutting me off you are a total disgrace not only to the company but to life itself!

Maybe I got lucky considering all the bad reviews before me. I had a problem of a tripping draft? switch on my furnace after the vent/​duct was messed up by the roofer. I already knew what the problem was, which may be what saved me…
At any rate, these guys were the only ones to take my call that day (it looked like they had a dispatcher, which was useful), did not charge for the visit, showed up within an hour, seemed to understand the problem, on the spot gave me estimate of $ 800 for replacing the vent/​duct (luckily I am on the top floor), which was $ 200 over what it usually was (as I was told later), but I negotiated $ 100 discount, and scheduled repair appointment for the following week.
On the day of the appointment no one showed up. I called the same dispatcher, and they came several hours later. In the end they took apart the existing duct, left, came back with replacement parts, and 2 hours later it was all finished like it never happened.
It’s been 2 months now, and the switch was not tripping, so, I guess, I am pleased with the outcome.

Forget it. Save yourself the trouble.
Found AC Heating from yellow pages. They had the biggest ad. Technician came within an hour. He looked at my furnace and figured the motor not working. Casually mentioned that it may take $ 180 to replace. Wow, not bad, I said. So he continued to disconnect the motor and the cage. After he’s taken out everything, he gave the written estimate — $ 865.33 (motor-​$ 420, capacitor-​$ 168, labor-​$ 220, tax-57.33). I was shocked. I said I might as well replace the whole thing. He brought it down to $ 780 because he’s using the old motor brackets. Reluctantly I said ok, but then he said he does not have the motor and will have to come back the next day. He took the old motor and the cage.
After he left, I quickly googled for furnace motor prices, and realized I was being ripped off. I called the AC Heating right away and said I want to cancel the repair. I will pay the service charge, just return the parts. The next day the technician came back. He said I should pay him $ 300 for taking out the motor. What? I said I should pay only $ 45 for the service fee but since he had to return the parts, I’m willing to pay $ 90. He called his boss, and he said fine, $ 90. After I signed the receipt, he said he can still do the work for $ 620. I said no thanks.
I found Cal Comfort here at Unilocal and Malik did the job for almost half what AC Heating was asking.

Save yourself the money and time and go somewhere else! Anywhere else!
Our heating system went kaput. We didn’t know any HVAC companies, didn’t know any better and didn’t Unilocal this place before we called. So, they sent out a technician. About this technician:
1) He didn’t bring any tools with him. (?!) Had to borrow Dad’s voltmeter. Did we get a discount because we provided our own tools?
2) He couldn’t speak enough English to explain to Dad what he was doing or what the diagnosis was.
3) He arrived in an unmarked vehicle and no business shirt. Had Dad not called the company already, he would’ve thought this guy was a stranger off the streets. There was no work badge, nothing to prove that he worked for the company except for the invoice that he gave us at the end.
I should have taken note from these other Unilocalers before. Do yourself a favor and go to another company. In my instance, we’ve gone to Haddon Heating and Cooling in Pacheco, and it has worked out quite nicely so far.

Horrible! They came out, gave me an estimate for $ 295… re-​estimated it for $ 640. Told me some lies, tried to overcharge 10x for parts. I decided to call around because it seemed kind of sketchy — so they left but I still had to pay them the $ 95 visit charge. I went with Associated Heating in SF and my total was only $ 120 for the whole thing.

You know when after everything is done you are left with a bad taste in your mouth? After hiring this company we felt we were overcharged and left with a suspicion that the parts used to fix our system were used parts, not new.
I wish I had checked Unilocal before picking this company.
Truely beware!

Is it possible to keep from being ripped off by mechanics that visit your home? They always have a minimum charge for the visit, so if you don’t want to pay the repair prices they offer once they arrive you’re still stuck with the minimum fee. Then you would need to pay someone else to come out and do the repair anyway.
I needed a furnace repair, but nothing special — only a change of the furnace ignitor. They were able to come within about 3 hours of my call, which was great. However, once here they charged me $ 145 for a $ 40 part and $ 125 for less than 30 minutes of work. Wow! Next time I’m going to figure out how to change the dang thing myself. I can invest $ 20 bucks and get a whole tool set that would be more than enough for the job. I can get directions off of the internet. I don’t need to be ripped off again.
I recommend that when you’re on the phone setting up the appointment ask the following questions:
1. Is there a minimum amount you charge for labor? (Apparently it’s $ 125)
2. What is your mark-​up on parts? (Apparently it’s at least 350%).
