Amazing. Delicious food. We had the chicken teriyaki special because it was our first time here. Owner brought out endless plates of Korean sides for us to try. She is quite a personality and take pride in her cooking.

The first impression you get when you pull up is if your going to make it out of this Plaza alive! But please be reassured that you will. Walking in its not a pleasant view. No water fall fountain or smooth music playing and the place is quite small but what I like about the appearance is that you can see everything she does in the kitchen. She welcomes you in with this great attitude that is kind of «getto» especially coming from a little old lady but what do you expect from a mom and pop shop in Compton. Now the reviews I did read helped me make my choice of the Mongolian beef plate and she recommended the grape juice in a can which was a great choice. When I got to work and jumped in my plate of food it was great. Sweet and spicy. The coleslaw is now on my top 5 and the cucumber salad was something new to me. I would go back. And the spicy came from her homemade chilly sauce that she can mix mild to very spicy. Friendly service was the checkmate move for me.

This place is definitely a hidden gem. Don’t be scared off by the run down exterior. This family is serving up awesome Korean food. I got the chicken lunch special which came with grilled chicken over white rice covered in their special sauce(delicious sauce similar to what you’d use to marinate bulgogi) and a couple of sides. All that for $ 8. If you’re in the area this place is worth checking out!

Now here’s a diamond in the rough. A small, 6 person restaurant, cash only, one little older Korean lady running the place, almost all the other stores closed. Small menu, taxes included… Sounds scary right? Instead what you’re going to find in here is an amazing Korean food place(don’t be fooled by the«Chinese» classification on Unilocal or the sign– you are getting Korean food here!– with amazing value and great flavor, with really good service from what feels like your Korean grandmother that you didn’t know you had. Sunshine’s Chinese and Korean BBQ is basically a lunch spot– nice, quick, simple. A relatively small menu consisting mainly of fried rice varieties, some appetizers, and the highlight– grilled chicken and beef, including short ribs. Sunny is the proprietress of this place and she is nothing but sweet and peppy! She will make recommendations, make suggestions, and grills some mean meat! Portions are significant, with a home-made Korean bbq glaze. She refers to it as teriyaki, but that’s, I’m guessing, more for comfort than authenticity. After all, it’s hard to explain to non-Koreans that the brown, sweet, soy glaze is not teriyaki, but a marinade/sauce for bulgogi, dakgogi or kalbi. If you get the full meal, you get served a simple, but wonderful variety of side dishes, including pickled cucumber, radish kimchi, cabbage kimchi, sprouts kimchi, salad with dressing, stewed spinach, and a green onion root dish. Lunch specials only get one or two sides, but are still a great value. Sunny makes everything to order– nothing sitting on a heating plate, no microwaves. Flavors are amazing, with just the right amount of spice and flavor. Service is fast and exceptionally friendly. Despite the strange location and small space, Sunshine’s is not to be missed if you’re in the area and craving a good, decently priced lunch. It’s not K-Town bbq, but it is still amazing in and of itself. I think it’s safe to say that this is the best Korean BBQ in Compton, but don’t be fooled by what appears to be an overly narrow superlative– Sunshine really hits the spot in all the right ways, especially for the price and the area.

I have been here 2 times. It seems like, it’s only one lady always working there. She is really nice and accommodating. The short ribs are delicious, and so is all the little sides that come with it.

Was in the area and decided to Unilocal a place for lunch. Found this small gem. The place doesn’t look like much from the outside and the inside only has 3 tables. We were greeted by Ms Sunshine, who is just the sweetest young lady! We ordered Korean ribs with the sides. The meat was tender and the marinade was good. She added a teriyaki type sauce on top of the meat and rice(too much sauce for me). The sides were excellent! Really enjoyed the cucumber kimchi. Overall experience was good! I would love to go again when I’m in the area. Thank you Ms Sunshine for all you do! **this is a CASH only establishment **

Too expensive, not enough beef to compensate for the price $ 13. They give you rice instead. The rib meat was good. The sides were ok, but not something to crave.

What a hidden gem! Came here and got Korean Bbq. It was awesome. On top of that she was SUPERFRIENDLY and down to earth. She is the old school grandmother who’s food everyone talks about. Your food is made to order and delivered with a smile. Her flavors are developed and separately in sync.

I don’t live in Compton, but I came here because I had read about it here on Unilocal, plus I was visiting my friend so why not! She lives like five minutes away from this place, it’s closer than I thought! So any ways from a far it doesn’t look like much and when you enter the place it is pretty small, I had never been to a to go Korean bbq place, so this was my first, I wanted some beef and sunshine, a very sweet lady who made you feel welcomed right away told me to try the kbbq short ribs so I was like«why not» after all this is the plate most Unilocalers talk about, my friend ordered the chicken and rice. We waited for about ten minutes or so because she was making our food! Yummy! She told us to read some magazines while we waited and I was ok with it even though it was all in Korean lol though I did recognize some singers and actors from Korea in those magazines, anyways once we got our order(we got it to go) I thought she was just gonna hand us our order but nope she showed me what the inside of the styrofoam plates with the food, and I got to say I wasn’t disappointed! Huge portions of chicken and shortribs, a ton of rice! Nice! And two sides, pickled cucumber and some salad/coleslaw looking salad, grabbed our order and we left, she was super nice and I believe she speaks Spanish? Because she would talk to us in Spanish as well. The taste of the food was delicious, however I do admit the short ribs were hard in some parts but really well marinated, the chicken was good too, nice and grilled, my rice was soaked in the sauce the ribs were marinated with so yummy!!! The pickles were yummy as well, the salad is the only thing I didn’t finish because let’s just say I was too full. Sunshine said that next time we come back she’ll give us kimchi too, which was nice, but I wonder if she’ll remember my face? Lol anyways I’m really curious to find out what the other dishes taste like, for example the Mongolian beef! I might hit this place up every time I visit my friend! Lol and like everyone says, it truly is a diamond in the rough!

Was asked to meet here for lunch by a friend of mine around 2pm. To be quite honest I was a bit apprehensive being that it wasn’t in the greatest part of town but hey Carpe dium! Am I right?! Lol Walking in showed just how small this place really is, and when I say small I mean like small. I’d say you can fit roughly 10 people inside max and I’m talking at capacity you’d be so close it would be rude not to turn to your neighbor and say hello. That said I was greeted by what has be the sweetest lady in all of LA. My friend addressed her as mamma San but she introduced herself as sunshine! What a wonderful women let me tell you food aside I’d personally come back just to say hello! She makes you feel like you’ve known each other for ages which is comforting and very inviting. She was Absolutely wonderful! I ordered the chicken fried rice which was great! Rice cooked very well with marinated chicken! Onions herbs and spices made it a fantastic meal but wait there’s more! She cooks the greatest hot chilies! Her fresh Kimchi is to die for and salsa?! xDIESx all are must haves if you ever have the chance to stop in! Located on a strip mall with plenty of parking please stop in you will not be dissapointed!

Found this place last week on Unilocal when I had a craving for some good Korean short ribs. Sorry but Ono has nothing on Sunshine’s!!! I walked in and it instantly smelled like Korean BBQ heaven. The menu is pretty short and sweet so I instantly knew that I wanted the bang for my buck with the short rib and chicken combo. Took the plate home and totally devoured it! Sunshine cooks with her heart and soul and you can tell! Such a nice lady with a small hidden spot here in Compton! It’s great to support these small local businesses that crank or the good food vs. stupid chains whose food is subpar. I will be a returning customers to Sunshine’s! If you’re in Compton or work near this place is a must!

A Korean restaurant in Compton. Can you believe it? I had to try it. Compton is not the culinary capital of anything, but we do have a few good places we can brag about: Bludso’s BBQ — the best BBQIMHO. Mom’s Burger — get the Chronic Burger, delicious. Loreto’s Fried Turkey — if you love turkey, this is the place for you. Urupan Taco — authentic Mexican taco, Louisiana Fried Chicken — one of the best fried chicken anywhere. We even have Japanese, okay, it’s Yoshinoya lmao. I didn’t know we had Korean until a few days ago. It’s in a run down strip mall by the 710 fwy on Alondra Blvd. It’s a small place. 3 tables total(2 table for 2 and a table for 6) that’s it. The lady running the show is a character. I’d go here just to see her in action. I ordered the BBQ Short Ribs(Kalbi), It was lunch time so, I assumed I was getting the lunch portion. Nope. She brought me out the«LARGE» order. She must know me already, I’m a big boy and I can eat.($ 1 difference in price, no big deal) That was a mountain of meat. Delicious. Now, it wasn’t the best I’ve had(some tough parts) but the marinade was spot on and I really enjoyed my meal. She asked me if I like kimchi, Heck Ya! She brought out 4 banchans. Kimchi was super good. I finished the bowl she gave me. Pickled Daikon Radish and Jalapeño was the bomb. More please. Pickled Cucumber was good, first time eating it the way they had it(interesting), but still good. Salad? I wasn’t sure exactly what that was. It had a very very watery thousand island dressing to it. That’s the only one I didn’t like. Service was very good. Like I said, she is a character. I like her already. This place also offer Chicken & Beef Teriyaki, Tempura, Chow Mein, Fried Rice, Salad and Udon. Remember it’s small, so when they grilled my Kalbi order, the smoke filled the room. I smelled like BBQ, good BBQ at that, the rest of the day. lol This place is primarily a take out place. I would not recommend dining in. Korean food is one of my favorite cuisine. I’m so happy I found this place and… I’ll definitely be back.
