Anythink Library – Commerce City

I really would like to share an experience I’ve had at this library. Which really stinks because it is only 3 minutes from my home and I do not own a computer. So after a really long day at work and waiting in traffic the last thing I had to do for the day was type up a resume for my boyfriend and print it out. His interview was the next morning and we are super busy parents so I decided I would try to help by typing it for him. Went in there around 6:15pm. I knew already they closed at 7:00, so I didn’t have much time. As I was typing I had difficulty concentrating. First I noticed two young teenage girls behind my giggly and being loud and obnoxious. Then a couple minutes later, a little girl probably 5 – 6 years old, by herself, sitting 2 seats away from me banging on her keyboard often. Then a few minutes later, a boy probably age 12 – 13 years old sitting in front of me playing YouTube videos of wrestling without his headphones. The staff is just sitting at the front not paying attention to all the noise in the computer room. When I was younger, I am 28 now, in a library if I was loud or someone else the librarian would tell you to keep it down. Because it’s only respectful to be quite so people can concentrate on whatever they came to do. But the staff showed no care or awareness. Then there was an announcement that the library would close in 15 minutes. I was almost done typing. A couple minutes went by and all the sudden all the computers shut off without warning. I was lucky enough I had emailed it to myself a copy SECONDS before it was shut down. I started to complain to a staff member and one had the audacity to say ‘well there’s a timer at the bottom of your screen’. When I’m thinking to myself, I was told I had 15 minutes till the library closed. Not 5 till the computers shut off automatically with no warning. That I was trying to rush, not pay attention to my time I had left. I explained how unfair it was and only one staff member tried to help me. We pulled the email of the resume I typed up on another slow laptop. When we finally got it to print the employee assured me it wouldn’t print the way it looked on the screen. Because the format I typed it out in was lost due to it wasn’t a word document. Finally printed it and it looked nothing like a resume. This place is just a poor excuse for a library. And the staff is rude and doesn’t care. Wish I lived closer to another one, or libraries were the same as when I was a child. Either way. Their selection stinks and I can’t stand going there.

This library is part of the Rangeview Library System operating under the «brand name» of Anythink Library.
I really wish they would have closed this library permanently or made it into a «branch» library since the majority of population growth is occurring in Northern Commerce City and not here. Northern Commerce City could use a library and Commerce City as a whole could use a bigger facility than what this one has to offer.
This location is weird in that there is no central check out desk. Instead there are two workers sitting at 2 terminals near the front at what looks to be a reception desk. Of course there is no sign saying CIRCULATION or anything as helpful as that.
Anyways, getting past that, the selection at this library is pretty poor. The card catalog was not overly user friendly, and I could not for the life of me find the reference section and finally gave up trying.
I know that libraries may be dying with the computer age but when you are forced to go to one for city documents you’d hope they would be easy to find.
There is a swanky magazine section with fireplace and simulated woodgrain wall paper. Yes, simulated woodgrain wall paper. The computer room (about 18 computers) seemed to be hopping also.
I was almost run over in the parking lot — no big surprise for this part of Commerce City.
In any case, Anythink Commerce City, it was my first visit and probably my last.
While not the worse library it was definitely in the bottom. A solid 2.
