The Music Academy of Long Island (MALI) offers its students the unique opportunity to extend their musical technical experience and expression through chamber music groups that rehearse throughout the week. Chamber music refers to a genre of classical music performed by a limited number of instruments with only one player to a part with prescribed roles — melody, counter melody, inner voice and bass line. In the context of a chamber group, students learn teamwork while improving their own rhythm and intonation and finding their own music expression within the group’s dynamics. MALI’s experienced instructors work together to create these chamber groups and pace them through the development process, while adapting and re-​arranging music to match the technical and expressive abilities of its members. Our goal is to eventually expose all of our students to this wonderful and fun music experience.

History

Established in 1997.

At Music Academy of Long Island (MALI), our primary goal is to provide students of all ages with an exceptional music education experience. It is for this reason that all instructors in our staff are university-​trained professionals carefully selected based on their public performance, communication and teaching skills. We are passionate about preparing our students to excel in their technique, musicianship and public performance. Our personalized lesson plans seek to inspire our students to develop a life-​long love for playing music. We offer lessons in Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Guitar, Percussion, Flute, Trumpet, Horn, Clarinet, Saxophone and Voice.

Our talented students participate in various regional festivals, concerts and events such as NYSSMA, SCMEA, LISFA, Allstate Festivals, the New York Youth Orchestra and Music Competitions. We also develop our students’ performance skills through our own MALI concerts and our community outreach events to local nursing homes.
