The Mineola store is nicer and friendlier. Pretty decent selections, just know your prices; some things are reasonable, others priced above market.

This place is legit for vinyl. Huge selection of CD’s too, video games etc. but the vinyl selection is awesome. Prices are good. If you are serious about vinyl, this place will satisfy your thirst.

I guess it all depends on what you are looking for and interested in. They have a wide selection, I especially enjoy the Jazz section. If you are a collector, you may consider going somewhere else.

Cheapo has been around for years and I have been a regular customer for quite some time. On the positive side, the place does have a great variety of media including a large selection of used vinyl, CD and DVD. The owner will always see if they can obtain something that may not be on site. Certainly enough at the Commack and Mineola locations to keep you busy browsing for hours at a time. The hired staff are innocuous zombies and will point you in the right direction if you are looking for something in particular.
Unfortunately if you are planning to take a long drive to browse as a collector, there are a bunch of negatives. The inventory control processes put in place on the used CDs ensures that you will never know what you will end up with when you get to the counter. The efficient staff member will run to the back of the store and find a similar copy, slap that disc in your case and re-​stock the browsers with the jewel case that your disc came from. There are other strange swaps going on too with overstocks. I found a nice as new copy (still in the jewel case!) of a CD for $ 2.99. Disc was brand new and artwork looked untouched. Staff member runs to the back and replaces it with a CD with a water stained booklet and a trashed CD. Watch for sleeve swaps on the vinyl too. Nice mono covers with newer pressings abound. Beware the Russian pirate two-​fer CDs too.
As noted in other reviews, the folks that run the place are not the friendliest. The owner is OK, but the rest of his family are just plain rude. Don’t get in the way of the woman doing the restocking. You are not a valued customer, you are in her way, so move. A real shrew. The owner’s son is not very personable either.

I normally go to the Mineola location, no review really required, been
a customer on and off of Cheapos going back to around the mid to late
1980s or whatever it was. I happened to be in the area the other day,
had time to kill, did some browsing in Commack again, I’m dangerous
in these stores and trying not to blow god knows how much money
on box sets and vinyl… it’s not difficult, especially when you’re a rock, music
and media junkie like myself. I walked out with a needed copy
of the 1990 Led Zep box set (4 CD one) for $ 20, in fine condition
with booklet in the original large-​format box. ‘Nuff said, I think.

I used to go here all the time with my friends and purchase at least $ 50 worth of CD’s at a time. This store is by no means cheap. The owner is extremely friendly, and needs to be there more. As for his son, he’s going to drive the business into the ground, along with his mother. His son isn’t very social, and his mother is the most condescending person I’ve ever met. They give you close to nothing for what you trade in (I’m talking a quarter per CD or DVD, regardless of condition or rarity) and charge you $ 9 for a USED CD. I’ll be going to Looney Tunes from here on out, where they have a membership card that offers plenty of coupons, notifications of the weeks album releases, and upcoming concerts. Get with the times, Mr. Cheapo’s.

I’ve been a long time customer and while they aren’t «cheap» you can get a fair amount of used cd’s for $ 2.99. I’m writing this because I purchased a Pink Floyd poster and when he brought out the poster I noticed a large and highly noticeable damaged area to the poster, he noticed it too and started to roll it up for me, I said can you get me another one? ok he says, goes in the back gets another one that he’s already rolled up with rubber band, I buy it and leave, when I went to unroll at home I realize it’s the damaged one I asked him to exchange! wtf? why would he deliberately do that? I returned it. Also I purchased a used Metallica cd among others and when I got home and played it, it skipped throughout, not only that I noticed it was a burned copy, not an original despite being sold as such, it was not sold as a bootleg, also the liner had been copied. They wouldn’t let me return it. The female that works there is quite unfriendly and condescending toward my children. I will no longer waste my time or gas driving there, I can get items cheaper and have a better experience on-​line. Hopefully another vinyl/​record store reopens in East Northport where the other burned

I recently got into collecting Vinyl, and many would think that those would be hard to come by, but not here. Mr. Cheapo’s has a great selection of vinyls (old and new), CD’s. video games, VHS, DVD’s and blu-​rays. Their employees are very knowledgeable, and even told me a few things I never knew.
They have a program where every $ 20 you spend you get a punch on your punch card. The 10^th one you get free $ 20. I was annoyed when the other Mr. Cheapo’s in Mineola wouldn’t honor my 10^th punch because it had ended, but I called up this location and they told the man to honor it. Don’t worry, the program is still up and running.
My only problem with Mr. Cheapo’s is the music is so loud in there. Join their mailing list and you always see a 20% coupon

This place has been around for as long as I can remember and remains a friendly, organized, resourceful and rich source of used CDs/​vinyls and DVDs. If you’re trying to sell your stuff to them, you’ll get more value in store credit than cash. Over the phone, they told me they typically pay 25 to 50 cents per CD, maybe a dollar if it’s a very desired one. I ended up ditching 3 CDs out of the lot I brought in and got $ 5 store credit that I used right away.

Solid vinyl selection with some interesting bootlegs, reasonable prices with some great deals if you go through everything. I found a slew of Wedding Present 12″ singles, doesn’t get better than that. Lots of odds and ends floor to ceiling, and according to the sign when you walk in «everything in the store is for sale». Come here with a few hours to spare, you won’t be walking out empty handed.

I’ve been coming here on and off for years. They have an average selection amongst LI music stores… oh wait, they’re about the only one left. That DOES raise their stock a bit, huh?

If I could sum up one word to describe why I will continue to be a regular customer here — or at least as much as my storage space at home and gas prices will allow — LASERDISCS. Oh, they’ve got ‘em. Between this location and the one in Mineola I’ve amassed a collection of about 30 laserdiscs from my original collection of 6.
The staff is friendly. I haven’t interacted with them much beyond handing them my credit card and allowing them to charge it.

Love Love Love this place. Just when you thought there were no more «real» record stores left… A must go for the music enthusiast, especially vinyl

Tiny shop tucked away in a major shopping mall. They have every genre you can imagine with a mixture of collectibles and regular mainstream music that is often heard on the radio today.
You can sell your old album and CDs but you won’t get much money in return. Basically enough to but you a slice of pizza or two. You’re better off taking the store credit option if you want to buy something in there.

I went in hoping to find a some Black Eyed Peas cd’s at a reasonable price.
The store is ok sized and is stacked with cd’s, records & dvds floor to sealing
They carry mostly used cd’s and dvd’s.
There were three workers there all very friendly and willing to help find anything you needed.
I asked one of the men behind the counter if they had the cd’s i was looking for, As i could not find them.
A lot of the items are mixed up so sometimes its hard to find things the guy said.
But he new exactly were they were.
They had a few of the tittles i wanted used, Unfortunately the prices for the used were as much as if iI bought them brand new on Ebay.
The guys in there were very friendly and to be honest, If you were looking to get something hard to find they properly have it.
As far as buying a regular cd the prices are way to high to justify buying from them.
I give them 4 stars because a lot of customers might want some old cd or record album that is no longer made and they might have it.

Long Island isn’t exactly the best place for a good used music store (FYE, Best Buy, etc. are generally all we get).
Cheapo’s isn’t always what its name suggests, but it still doesn’t mean you can’t find a good deal on some hard-​to-​find stuff.
Deluxe Editions generally run about $ 20 a pop, whereas used single discs go between $ 6.99 — $ 9.99 depending on quality. Crappy CD’s cost $ 2.99 each (or 4 for $ 10). I don’t even go near the new CD section as it’s expensive and not particularly up to date.
The big draw is that they’ve got some cool «imports» and bootlegs that are tough to find elsewhere. They also have flats, posters, stickers, shirts and patches for sale.
All-​in-​all, the prices could be better but the selection is diverse enough where I usually find something I want each time I visit.

Back in the days of the longbox it was great for new releases, if you were ahead of the curve you could find it here cheap-​o. Good bootlegs, promos and singles, and they still have the vast collection of discs but the prices suck. They offer «yogi» cds (the stuff that sucked when it came out 10 years ago) for $ 2.99 each or 4 for $ 10. The only upside is they have a nice collection of used vinyl and some cool flats, posters and pictures for sale. I was in about two weeks ago but didn’t buy anything. Ideally, I’d like to «support independent record stores» but I don’t feel good about spending my money here anymore. 2 other Unilocalers comment on their silly prices. Maybe Cheapos should get with the program and give music away for free. Like we wanna «own» this shit!

Gosh darn it, I gotta give this place 4 stars because I would walk over there as a young grasshopper and check out the latest cd’s. I would then on occasion head over to the pizza joint in the same shopping center. But besides the memories, the cd’s really aren’t very cheap at all. They don’t have a huge selection but will special order anything you want. They also have some posters and stuff like that to buy. Check out the place if ever in the neighborhood. :-)

Not only does this place sell cd’s, but you can also trade your old ones in for either store credit or cash. It’s a fairly small store, so there is usually only one or two employees working but they always make it a point to help you. If you can’t find what you are looking for, they will order it. A great place to both buy and sell music!
