History

Established in 2000.

A graduate of the Swedish Institute, Marla Kaplan, Licensed Massage Therapist, opened Hands On HealthCare Massage Therapy in February 2000. Then in 2003 she was able to double her space from 1200 sq ft to 2400 sq ft. This enabled Hands On to bring in more diverse services such as Couples Massages, Spa Parties and Spa Services. In 2011, Hands On expanded it’s reach with Mobile Spa Services for Couples, Parties, Special Occasions and Events. Sometimes people with illness’ such as cancer, find this chairs more fatigue friendly! In 2011, we also became a Recommended Community Provider for Memorial Sloan Kettering Canter Center. In 2016, we opened up a second location called «The Retreat», located at 154 Commack Road, Suite 210. This location offers John Barnes Myofascial Release, as well as Specialty Couples Massage.

My husband and I came here with another couple. Total– 4 of us.
We each had a massage followed by a facial. There were 4 therapists in total which worked their way around the 4 of us. While we got massages, our friends received their facials. Once we were done with our massage, the therapists switched and we then got our facials while they got their massage.
The general consensus was that the massages were good. The facial however, was not great at all for my husband and the other friend who shared the same service. I forget the therapist’s name but she’s an older lady with blonde hair. dare I say her name was Brenda? (Please dont hold me to that)
I had an amazing facial with whom I forgot the name as well, but it was a lady with short/​boy cut hair and I believe she was Hispanic.
Our treatment package included champagne with truffles and/​or chocolate covered strawberries followed by a foot soak. Our water was a little cold so we had to ask for it to be slightly hotter.
While the sentiment and idea is cute, we received the foot soak treatment along with champagne and truffles in the same room that we were treated for our therapy session. so while we were trying to relax, there were therapists walking back and forth, quickly cleaning up the beds and removing the sheets right behind us. Felt a bit awkward and uneasy.
The waiting area as well as the therapy rooms were serene but a little too gaudy in taste. The «fireplace» in the waiting area was an electrical fire place and if I remember correctly, they printed a picture of logs and fire and pasted it onto the fireplace. It’s safe to say that some of us enjoyed our experience more than the others but we’d agree that the ambiance in general is a bit of an eye sore.

I saw on their website for new customers there was a $ 75 special (norm $ 120) which included a 60 minute massage treatment with full body exfoliation, a hot rock sampler, aromatherapy, and a hydrating wrap for your feet and hands. I thought this would be perfect for my mom’s birthday. I also decided to add on for $ 35 dollars champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. The staff was lovely. We arrived 15 minutes early as suggested. We were greeted by a nice man who got us in the room pretty quickly, which was great because I hate to wait. The place was very clean and decorated well. Now I personally have never gotten a massage before but we had Cheryl and Cindy who were really great. I think my girl could tell but she made me feel very comfortable.
Extra Thing to know ahead of time:
You have to fill out an online questionnaire before you can actually book the reservation.

Yesterday morning while watching News 12, I saw that it was spa week! Bummer though, that it was over April 17th and yesterday was the 16th. I figured all the places were booked since the prices are slashed during spa week.
I went out on a limb and called up Hands On and I’m so glad I did. I loved everything! The masseuse Cheryl, the hot towels on my feet (which are always cold), the moisturizer/​hand wrap, the cooling facial mask, massage and hot stones! It was everything I could have imagined, especially for the price of $ 50.
They were so great taking me last minute and they did not disappoint. I would like to say that I would return but upon my exit, I peeped some of the regularly priced items and they are out of my budget. Either way, you guys are great and I will recommend to friend and family!

I wish I could bring this medical massage/​spa with me. It is hard to find a place and massage therapists that can treat and help exactly what one might need. My job requires me to contort my arm and body and it is not usually never ergonomically correct. Since I left, I have had more pain in my back and pelvis and neck. The medical massage is one of the best (better than one in NYC and Chicago) and their therapists all are great, giving suggestions to help. I have had very therapeutic massages from most of the therapists (Katie, Kim). (I don’t believe that I have met them all or had a massage from them all). Oh note, Jody who I worked with the most is one of the best. She is also skilled in their new techniques utilizing myofascial work to treat the whole body. They treat the whole person and explain the rationale of how the fascia affects the body and how the treatment would treat the underlying problem, not just the muscle spasms.
If you are looking for relaxation, Claudia gives one of the best hot stone massages that I have ever had. I was truly disappointed by one in DC and I think that that is Claudia’s fault. My husband agrees and he is very picky about massages, not really truly finding them relaxing. However, he changed his mind after receiving a hot stone massage from Claudia.
Please know that they are very busy and very booked so scheduling an appointment needs about 2 weeks. Jeremy and Damian, in the front, are so accommodating and helpful on the phone and in person. It is so It is well worth the wait. Whenever I go back to NY, I will be sure to book a massage.

The best massage I have ever had. A 2 hour medical session with Carlos got out all the pain and tension related to a recent injury. I haven’t felt this great in months and feel like I can finally return to my normal activity. I highly recommend this facility and Carlos in particular. No one else has been able to relieve me of my shoulder and neck pain. Beautiful, relaxing décor, aromas and music. The only this I regret is not getting a facial as well.

I came her for a medical massage due to pregnancy sciatica and saw Kim. She was very professional and friendly. She did a very good job and the pain actually subsided a little bit that night. Quiet rooms, nice relaxing atmosphere, don’t let the location throw you off (it’s a tiny store front in a small strip of shops, I was a little nervous about it at first) but pleasantly surprised when I went inside. What impressed me the most was that after the massage I inquired about insurance and met the director, Marla. Once she heard how I was in pain, she brought me back into a room with the therapist and worked on some stretches with me to help my pain. She was not only knowledgeable but also made me feel like she genuinely cared. With so many spas to choose from, her going the extra mile really stood out to me and I will definitely be back!

Had a medical massage with Jody to treat an extremely painful knot in my shoulder blade that was radiating down my arm and causing numbness in my arm and fingers.
After a half hour massage I finally felt relief.
She was very skilled and I am grateful.

My boyfriend and I booked a couple massage and we were very disappointed with the service and delivery. We traveled two hours for massages that were suppose to be done by professionals. We basically payed an obscene amount of money to get a gentle back rub that made us need a massage more than we did when we walked in. In addition, the chocolate covered strawberries that were included in the couples package tasted old and inedible. A foot soak was also given at the end of the massage and the water was cold, even after requesting warmer water and not to mention the horrible smell in our room. Overall, not worth the money or travel time.

I’ve been going to Hands on Healthcare Massage Therapy and Wellness Day Spa and met with most of the Massage Therapists who are totally amazing! Each Therapist has a different approach and technique to help treat me with my pain! I was in so much pain with my neck, shoulders, arm and hands that their mission was to work on getting me better! The front desk personnel are so professional and courteous in every way to accommodate the patient!
The owner is wonderful and has a wonderful staff working at the Therapy and Wellness Spa!
I would give Hands on Therapy a «10 star» if allowed!

The good: excellent front desk person– Jeremy is so accommodating, easy online forms, all rooms are quiet (even the first one closest to the main road).
Update: after reading my first review, I was contacted by the owner and given such amazing treatment to ensure my satisfaction. Customer service is definitely their mission. My medical massage with Carol was amazing. It is more like PT, so only book this service if you have an injury or particular area of focus. Carol provided me with many tips on how to work on this area myself. I was sore the next day, but my neck and shoulder pain was better. Also, they offer a free, 15-​min «flush out» follow-​up massage the next day to help with tenderness.
I came here for a spa week treatment that included a full body, deep tissue massage with hand treatment (approximately 45min) and a moisturizing face mask (that my masseuse forgot). Also, I should have received free aromatherapy with the Unilocal check-​in, but she forgot this too. Not only that, she wasn’t too knowledgeable about which aromas were available, offering only lavender. Another thing that was that I was never offered a beverage, before or after.
The massage itself was average. I’m a regular massage receiver due to a shoulder injury. That being said, I’ve tried a bunch of places and have a personal masseuse who comes to my home. For this treatment, I was a little disappointed that she did not ask any prep questions about particular areas for focus and did not ask about pressure throughout. I like a strong massage, but she was more forceful than strong.
I did like that she massaged my pectoral area, though I could see this as off-​putting to some people. Also, she did apologize for forgetting he mask and sent one home with me. She also recommended a medical massage, which I will be back for since I still have money of my gift card that they said I have to redeem there.

I had Monica last week for a deep tissue massage for neck issues, and she was very good, I also had Claudia today for deep tissue and told her what my ailments were for today, and she fixed my tightness in my lower back, and my hip reflexors, and I am sitting up straight again. All the therapists are wonderful. Just explain to Jeremy at the front desk what exactly you want and he will make suggestions for you. I am normally there for maintenance for my muscle skeletal issues, as I prefer to try the holistic approach, rather than being on Meds. They are part of my support system, and I would recommend them to anyone who has pain or for pure relaxation.

I am a huge fan of Hands on HealthCare. They are amazing for a couples massage or a day out with a best friend. The staff is very nice and go out of their way to make sure you can get an appointment. There were times I called and they did not have an opening and then called me back a few hours later to say they were able to move things around and get me in. They have great packages and I say its a must if you love a nice spa day out every once in a while. The atmosphere is very relaxing and comfortable.

I was in constant and severe pain for five straight days after aggravating an old injury while skydiving… my mother had gone to Hands on Healthcare to treat severe muscle spasms and, after seeing me in so much pain, recommended I give them a call.
I called and was able to get a last minute appointment with Katie (she had a late cancellation)…I had already been to the chiropractor, acupuncturist, and another massage place in the days leading up to my appointment — all with no relief. I even had my doctor give me an injection and prescribe me muscle relaxers and Vicodin… NOTHING was helping…
Then Katie straightened me out with a medical massage in just one ½ hour session. I feel 95% better and will be following up with another session in a couple days.
The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable, and professional! I highly recommend Hands on Healthcare to anyone looking for relief from back pain!

Spas are a dime a dozen on long island but my esthetician, Elaine, is the reason I’ve kept going back to Hands on Healthcare. She’s funny and sassy yet remains professional. Elaine personalizes my facial to my egregiously sensitive skin and doesn’t just slap on any old mask or scrub. She also checks to make sure the hot towels aren’t burning me or the products she’s using aren’t causing an adverse reaction.
Where have you ever gotten a facial where they both massage (and clean) your ears? It sounds awkward but it makes sense, you ears are a part of you face, right? Before I came here I’ve never –ever– had anyone take the time to look in my ears during a facial. Full disclosure: Apparently little whiteheads can form whether you’re a daily Q-​tip warrior (like myself) or a casual cleaner. Elaine will get any little nasties out. You also get a fabulous foot massage while you’re face is being masked and steamed.
After the facial my pores are cleaned, neat and smaller! Thankfully, the rest of my face doesn’t look like a science experiment after all the extractions, either. Unlike other spas I’ve been to, the staff does not aggressively sell services to you. Facials start @ $ 69 and they offer biyearly sales on gift certificates to stock up on.
The waiting room is a little congested but calming. The treatment rooms are well insulated so you’re not hearing any chatter or clunking around going on in the adjacent rooms.
Hands on is worth the drive out to Commack for the occasional pampering.
