The other reviewer only went to visit a dozen times over 5 years? Incredible. Gurwin is an awful place. Sure, it’s pretty and has a neat fish tank, but you know what? People are supposed to be cared for and that doesn’t happen there. I can give plenty of times my mother and everyone else I observed were neglected. Once i tried until 11 pm to get someone to put my mother to bed because she was extremely overtired and had been sitting in the chair for an entire day. She was already vomitting in the chair. It was too much for her. The nurse was doing her computer meds bit at the door and wouldn’t come to help. She just said, someone will be along. ITWASALMOSTMIDNIGHTALREADY and the floor was a ghost town as far as staff. I ran all over for help and when i got back to my mother, alone, she had tried to climb into bed herself. She got hurt. I screamed for help(the nurse was still doing her thing right outside the door which was open) and finally out of the woodwork came a few aides. The sent me out of the room and locked the door and was screaming at my mother while she lied crumpled up the way she fell. The next day I went to complain and they hadn’t documented anything and refused to acknowledge what happened. Another thing about Gurwin is that they are not sanitary. The staff spreads«vre» by not washing hands between patients, we had never heard about VRE until my mother was there for a short while. Once they label you with this it is very difficult to get services elsewhere plus it makes you very weak and ill. Stay away from this place. I know many other people who have had similar awful experiences there, I could go on forever.

One word comes to mind to describe Gurwin… NEGLIGENCE. The Worse Worse place ever!!! Do NOT take your loved one there unless you want them to get an infection. My father was there for almost a year and got over five infections and pneumonia. My family had to keep on taking him to the hospital and the Doctors didn’t understand why he kept getting all these infections. The last straw was when he had to be taken to the hospital for another infection, and when he was ready to return to Gurwin all of a sudden they didn’t have any beds left. They said that their patience takes precedence over new admissions… NOT the case. They just didn’t want to deal with my family always questioning the lack of care they have for their patients. I’m glad to say my father is at another location and doing great with no infection.

I really can’t say anything negative about this place. My grandmother lived here for about 5 years while suffering from alzheimers. During that 5 years, I went to visit grandma at least a few dozen times. The facility was always very clean and all the patients seemed to be tended to. They offered daily activities including movie time, bingo, arts and crafts, sing a longs, and more. The staff was always friendly. They offer a very nice outdoor garden area for the patients and families to hang out if they want to. It’s very nice when the weather cooperates. I used to work in a nursing home environment and I know first hand they can tend to have bad odors, be dirty, and often not offer nearly enough attention to the patients. Gurwin exceeded all expectations and I definitely recommend.
