Whit’s Frozen Custard

When I went past here, their feature weekly flavor was Buckeye, which I’d never had in any form, but chocolate and peanut butter is almost always a win in my book, and I figured it’d be terrible for me to visit Columbus without having anything even remotely-​buckeye-​y, so I got a small cup in a cone and life was gloriously wonderful.
Prices are pretty reasonable, and you get a pretty decent portion for what you pay. The custard is also fairly heavy, so for me, a small was definitely enough!
If you have your dog with you, they’ll make a little dog sundae for you too! This is all sorts of awesome in my book, but alas, I do not have a dog. ;_​; (Someday, I hope to adopt one!!!)

So I have passed this place a couple of times and always have been interested in giving it a try. They have a weekly flavor and then they have their tradition flavors. Then there is an opinion to get it in a cone, cup, or whitser. I got the whitser and you eat it with a spoon. It was so creamy and delicious. The small is $ 4 but it is a good size. I was able to put mine in the fridge and save some for later. I recommend giving this place a try if you in the mood for a late night treat!

Wow I am impressed with whits. Never again will I stand in line for the Jenis (which is overpriced). Whits gives you huge portions and the flavors are very creamy. I had the buckeye and lemon raspberry cheesecake, both had huge chucks of cheesecake and buckeye candy in them! I will definitely be back.

Honestly, I’m more of an ice cream fan, Graeter’s in particular, and I didn’t actually start eating frozen custard (that I remember) until last year when I had it at Culver’s, but Whit’s has really made me a fan. I don’t eat ice cream much as it is, and by no means is frozen custard any healthier for you, but I feel the need to indulge every once in awhile, and Whit’s is right there when I’m walking through the Short North.
The employees at this location are friendly and quick to offer a sample of the weekly/​daily flavors. Chocolate and vanilla are always on the menu, and I didn’t want to be too boring, so I went with the Strawberry Cookies ‘n Cream, and it was delicious. Frozen custard is so incredibly smooth and creamy, and if I wasn’t trying to get rid of some LBs, I’d be treating myself it a lot more often.
If you’re looking for a great local favorite and don’t feel like some crazy flavors from Jeni’s, Whit’s is a great alternative. They also have many other flavors by the pint as well as ice cream sandwiches. The custard itself definitely has a different texture from ice cream, and it’s just flat out good. You really can’t go wrong here.

If you want something other than Jeni’s and you’re in the Short North, this is pretty much your only other option (except UDF), but that isn’t a bad thing because Whit’s is pretty darn good! It is authentic custard, served in chocolate and vanilla every day, plus they make one daily flavor which changes all the time. I’ve enjoyed every flavor I’ve tried though, so you really can’t go wrong there. They also have ice cream sandwiches and sundaes made with their custard, so there is a variety of options.
The only downside is that this custard is VERY heavy, I can barely finish a small cup. Also, traditionally custard contains raw eggs which I didn’t know, but that could be risky if you’re pregnant/​taking babies or toddlers to get ice cream. I can’t say with 100% certainty that this custard contains raw eggs, but I would say it is worth checking before you try it if you fall into one of those categories. Otherwise though, it’s a great spot in the Short North, it’s always decently busy, and chances are you will always find someone outside having ice cream with their dog because they make little dog sundaes with biscuits on top for your furry friend when you come in! Such a nice little touch, especially in an area with so many people walking their dogs at all times of the day.
If you’ve never been to Whit’s give it a try, you might even end up liking it more than Jeni’s!

Mmmm Whits :) I used to get Whit’s every Thursday out in Granville after dance class. So I am not sure how I just realized they had a location in the Short North? I decided it was time to stop in! It was just as good as I remember. They always have the go to flavors — chocolate and vanilla and then they rotate a flavor weekly and a second flavor daily. The daily flavor was Strawberry, Cookies & Cream — it was really good! The weekly flavor was Mint Chocolate Chip, this was also delicious. If you haven’t tried frozen custard before it’s definitely worth a shot. Difference between ice cream and custard? Custard has a ton of egg yolks. So yes, this means more fat, littleee bit more calories but the egg yolks give it that rich and creamy flavor that makes it so yummy.

I live next door but that’s not why I love it. It’s definitely a plus though but it has lately turned into a sweet tooth addiction.
They make a custard to die for.
They won my heart over the small portioned overpriced Jeni’s.
Their daily flavor feature is a nice add on but I’m usually sticking with chocolate sundaes covered with a topping choice that blends well in taste with choco such as cherries or raspberries.
When it’s nice out enjoy this amazingly thick and milky goodness in front patio chairs.

Whit’s is known for their delicious custard. No sugar coating here (unless you add some sprinkles). It’s pretty phenomenal. They usually have a special custard flavor, various sundaes, and ice cream. I stick to custard so I can’t speak to the other offerings.
The Short North location is great with their quaint shop and outdoor seating. I recently enjoyed some Key Lime custard on an evening walk down High Street. Mmmmm! So good, so yummy, so worth every spoonful… Trust me.

I had never been here before and I only stopped because I was recently given a gift certificate. As you can imagine, I’m now kicking myself for not stopping in earlier. This place, the people, the delights are all just really wonderful. I had the caramel apple «Whitser» (I think it’s called?) and I couldn’t have been happier. Just what my mouth was expecting and as good as could be. The guys here are really good people (tip if you go), but they might get tired of my face as I plan on becoming a regular.

After walking up and down the short bother strip I came along this place and couldn’t resist… The gentlemen let us do a sample before purchasing and the ice cream was great. My son loved it. Only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is they have no restrooms and not good for moms with children

Wonderful! Caramel brownie custard is amazing. Worth the calories if you watch that kind of thing. Perfect blend of creamy, sweet and richness without the aftertaste of «ohhh I wish I wouldn’t have had those last four bites». You won’t be disappointed!

My healthy conscious butt has never had frozen custard before. I’ve had ice cream and froyo but now I know why frozen custard is not as healthy — because its so freaking delicious!!!
I ordered a strawberry sundae and it was absolutely amazing. The frozen custard was very tasty and delicious. I highly recommend this as a cheat meal

Mmmmm, custard. It’s been so long since I’d had some, and only then it’s been Culver’s.
We stopped in for some on a whim and were warmly greeted — with nice, helpful service — even though we apparently strolled in 15 minutes after they’d closed tonight. (Whoops! Sorry guys; we really had no clue until we Checked In on our Unilocal apps as we were leaving.)
They had 4 flavors — vanilla, chocolate, and specialties Buckeye and Salted Caramel — and a gaggle of toppings, fruits, and syrups! I ordered a plain chocolate. The single scoop was generous and only $ 3.75. It was rich and creamy, and a total win.

Sometimes I wish I was locked inside of this place, alone at night, eating infinite amounts of chocolate custard directly from the machine until my body detonates into a thousand custard-​filled pieces. I love this place. Please don’t ever open a Whit’s inside of a Planet Fitness, because then I’d be in real trouble.

If youre sick of Jeni’s (or their lines) DO NOT hesitate to walk to Whit’s. Really smooth and flavorful. Cheapest in the SN as well.

There’s just something about custard. It’s softer than ice cream, a bit richer, and overall delicious. And Whit’s knows custard. I prefer their Gahanna location because I can drive through in my PJs and not have to do the walk of shame through the Short North.
Parking in the ShoNo is… well… terrible. You have to be dedicated to eating your frozen confection if you plan on coming to this particular location. It’s probably best to visit while you’re already down here – don’t make a special trip. Custard should be fun, and circling the meters on High Street like a buzzard to a possum is most definitely not fun.
Once you make it inside, the people are friendly and the custard is delicious. Allegedly they have rotating flavors, but I always stick with vanilla. That’s my jam. And the price? It’s like $ 7 for for a quart. That’s a steal when you’re used to selling your kidney – in my case, gallbladder – for a pint of Jeni’s. #NoHateMyQueen

I tried a Whitser and OMG. was it good… much better than DQ. Very creamy. Mine was your basic vanilla with snickers.
Perhaps I should give it a 5 but this was my first time there. Maybe next time…

I am a fan of frozen deserts — Whit’s is where it’s at.
At first, I was a little turned off. Let me explain: all the competing frozen treat shops have me a bit spoiled on all the options they offer. I asked the man behind the counter what flavors they had — he named like four. Immediately I was confused.
Took a moment to read over their menu and regroup. They have plenty of creations to make up for lack of flavors. The consistency of the custard is amazing. And it wasn’t overly sweet — it was so good. I had a banana split — kids had root beer floats and the olé man had a mint chocolate chip.
Not a lick left of anyone’s pick after about 7 minutes. All had been thoroughly enjoyed!

Whit’s frozen custard is da bomb! My understanding of how it works is they may have four flavors: chocolate, vanilla, a special flavor (of whatever they are preparing for wholesale), and a weekly flavor. On my particular visit, the weekly was mint chocolate chip, and the special was buckeye. Of course I went with a generous scoop of buckeye ($ 3). They prepare their custard DAILY (never frozen overnight), and even add some of the ingredients in front of you!

The menu at Whit’s is more topping-​based than ice-​cream-​based; they have three flavors of custard: vanilla, chocolate, and whatever their flavor of the week is. Then, they have a bigger list of toppings, sauces, and mix-​ins.
Hubs and I both got whitsers (is that the right word? I remember I kept wanting to call it a «whitster.» I kind of hate made-​up words that are embarrassing to order, but, whatevs). The «whitsers» are basically like Blizzards from DQ, ice cream with all of the toppings mixed in. I think mine had Oreo and mocha syrup, maybe Kahlua syrup – you can see how memorable this experience was for me, heh, and it wasn’t that long ago that we went. I remember that it was chocolatey, that I couldn’t really distinguish any flavors except chocolate and vanilla, and that my palate got dull about halfway through.
If you’re looking for a DQ-​type experience, Whit’s is not a bad place to stop in. For me, it was okay but. .. . honestly, I’m spoiled on Jeni’s. Not just because it’s froo-​froo ice cream, but because it’s not just a big glob of vanilla with cookies or something mixed in. I like it when I can actually taste flavors. If Whit’s decides to do things like hand-​crafting and torching their own marshmallows for toppings, I’ll probably give them another chance; as it is, standard pre-​packaged ice cream mix-​ins just aren’t cutting it for me these days.
