Trek Bicycle Store of Columbus

I went to the Upper Arlington Trek store on Lane Avenue first as it is close to my house. I guess I didn’t look like a customer because it took about 10 minutes for someone to bother with me even though I was standing on top of the displays, caressing the bikes. Finally Scott came over. He must be new or something because he didn’t appear to know much about the bikes or offer any type of information to me to make an educated purchase. C’mon – get your staff up to speed if you’re selling expensive equipment. He set me up to ride a couple styles. Next day I went to the Dublin store hoping to get a get a different experience. I was warmly greeted by Jud, who may be one of my new favorite people in life! I told him what I thought I was interested in and he quizzed me about my riding intentions. I ended up purchasing a different bike than the one I originally wanted at his recomendation. It was a less expensive model – so he didn’t really upsell me – he just wanted to make sure I was fit with the right bike for my needs. When I came back on the weekend to pick up my purchase, I was again greeted by name by Jud. Great experience. This time, I also had the pleasure of doing business with Dale. Glad I didn’t give up on Trek after my dismal encounter at Upper Arlington.

I recently purchased my bike from this Trek store and absolutely love it. The shopping experience was great as is the bike. I have not owned a bike since I was a kid and had no idea what I was looking for. They took the time to explain the different types of bikes and let me test ride them. I told them how and where I would be riding and they recommended I get a hybrid bike. They had a great bike in my price range, about $ 600. The bike I purchased was sized right, they adjusted everything, and installed my accessories. The entire process was great.
I believe the entire sales team is made of people who ride a lot. They all seem very knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend this store!

I recently had my bike serviced at the Sawmill Place Blvd store in Columbus, OH.
On my first ride the bike did not shift from the front large sprocket to the small sprocket. I returned to the store to have the bike adjusted. To my surprise I was asked to pay $ 10 for the adjustment. My bike has never had this issue in 16yrs and worked fine until this store had worked on it. One would think a new chain and rear dérailleur would require adjusting after installation. The manage named Mimmi advised the area that needed adjusted was not a part they worked on and I had initially declined to pay for a «Basic». Anyway, I refused to pay at which point Mimi suggested they could take off the new parts. I then complied and said fine, put all my old parts back on and we can start all over. At which point Mimi said, «just take your bike and don’t come back». Unbelievable. So much for being a loyal Trek owner.

If you need any assistance or aren’t ready to adjust your bike yourself, you should probably shop elsewhere. The folks in this store gave the impression they were not interested in our business and they were not very competent at either fitting bikes, explaining the merits of different models, or assembling them correctly with even the simplest of accessories.
I went to this store with my mom to get her a comfortable hybrid bike. It’s a good thing we already knew what we wanted because the sales folks didn’t seem particularly interested in offering any advice or suggestions. We had to seek out a sales person for a test ride on the specific bike we’d already researched, even though the store was not busy. They provided a helmet and set the seat height correctly, but didn’t mention that the handlebars were adjustable or check if they needed adjustment.
We ordered the bike from them anyway because my mom found it very comfortable and it had very good reviews online, and then the customer service got worse. They called when the bike was assembled but claimed that the fenders they’d sold with it would not fit. They said that a «fender specialist» would be in the store the next day so they could try to get him to fit them. When we arrived at the store the next day, they still said the fenders wouldn’t fit but offered to have the expert look at it. We waited about an hour while the technician first wasted 15 minutes putting the front fender on the rear wheel, then when he was unable to fit the rear fender on the front, he realized his mistake and asked the expert for help. It then took about 45 minutes for them to figure out how to get both fenders attached, and while I appreciate that they finally got them installed, we should not have had to wait around so long while they did it. They should have already been installed by the time we got there.
Then, even though they boast about a personalized perfect fit on their website, they did not offer to adjust the seat or handlebars for my mom — we had to request that they do it. They also did not ask if we needed help putting the bike in the car, which kind of surprised me since the manager had hailed us with, «Hello, girls!» when we walked in and seemed like the kind of guy who would expect women to need help loading a heavy hybrid bike into a car. Finally, when we got the bike out of the car at home, my mom noticed that the front v-​brake was not adjusted correctly. I understand that the cables stretch after installation, but it should still have been fine 15 minutes after picking it up from the store. The cable was not tight enough and the brake arms were not balanced properly, so one of the brake pads was pressed against the rim and not moving.
The Lane Avenue location may not be any better. We had gone there earlier to try Electra and Trek bikes and when I questioned whether the frame size of the bike my mom was testing was really the right size, the woman said, «Oh, I don’t know, I’m not an expert at sizing bikes»…which makes you wonder why she was showing us a bike in the first place.

Yes, this store is full of bike enthusiasts. They are very knowledgeable and hard core about road biking or mountain biking. They love to share their knowledge and they love to talk about it. It can be intimidating at times but really, in the end, they want you to leave with the best product for your needs. For the most part, they will gravitate to the more expensive items, because they recognize the value of the performance parts over the cheaper parts.
In my opinion, their thinking is: you’re getting into biking, you’re going to love biking, you’re going to need something you can grow with (in terms of comfort and skill), so don’t spend $ 1200 on a entry level bike, get an intermediate bike that allows you to enjoy biking, grow into it, and use it for a long time, instead of having to re-​purchase another bike down the line. because if you’re going to get a nice bike, why buy an entry level nice bike? If you’re just getting into riding and not sure if you want to stick with it, don’t get a brand name bike. it might be better to get a 100 – 500 bike off brand, make sure you like the sport, and then get a nice bike later, on. but if you’re doing Trek/​Specialized type stuff, you might as well get a good one. I equate it to purchasing a sports car. If you’re going to get a sports car, get a good one and spend the money on quality. If you’re not sure a road ripping machine is for you, start with a fr-​s and see if it’s for you before getting a quality one. At least, that’s what I think they’re thinking.
Also, there’s only like 2 – 3 sales folks on the floor at one time. They’re super friendly and will explain all the ins and outs of all the products. Because of this, they spend quality time with each person they are with. so if they’re occupied, then you might have to wait a bit to be serviced or helped (or even acknowledged). so, that just comes with the territory of being engrossed with the products and your customer, they may not notice others waiting around or entering the store.

Stopped in while in town, as I have a Trek Navigator 2.0. Vinnie and the other guys in the shop were friendly, knowledgeable, and helped me pick out a rack & luggage compartment for my bike. Trek bikes are not cheap, but quality seldom is, and I can’t wait to install the upgrade. If I lived in Columbus, this would be my bike store!

Not great. Not great at all.
A couple weeks ago we spent a Saturday going from bike shop to bike shop looking for new bikes for my husband and I. We went to Roll, Trek, and Performance Bike. We had experienced great costumer service at Roll and Performance, and although the service at TREK wasn’t bad, it, well… rubbed me the wrong way.
I wanted to be shown entry level hybrid bikes since I haven’t ridden in over 15 years. The sales guy shows me multiples bikes all over $ 1,500 with all these fancy specs, like carbon fiber shocks, bla bla bla. Yes, the bikes were amazing, but I was like, ummm, what about this $ 600 bike over here? «Oh no, those aren’t nearly as comfortable as these ones.» Those ones, were of course, over double the price. I got the feeling they worked on commission there and this guy was DEFINITELY over selling me. I started with the fact that I was a beginner wanting entry level… nothing fancy. Apparently he did not care.
The sales guy also made some comment about, like, «if you pull up on a TREK bike, people will know your a big deal. Its like driving a corvette.» As if I care about branding. That was my cue to walk out. GIVE ME A BREAK!

My father and I have bought nothing but Trek Bikes for the last 17 years, but our experience here has opened our eyes to other stores and other brands where loyal customers get treated with respect instead of disposable.
We purchased two brand new bikes for my wife and I, around $ 550 each, and then we used the 10 year old bumper carrier we purchased when I first moved to Columbus to haul them on the back of our vehicle down to Florida.
On the way there one of the main bolts holding the structure upright snapped in half and dropped our bikes to the ground where we drug them for a couple miles before realizing what happened.
The new bikes got all marred up, paint was destroyed, dérailleur and brake cables torn in half, one of the bikes had a tire that burned up all the rubber and part of the rim.
When I return from vacation, one that we didn’t get to do any riding on, I go in and tell them what happened. They refused any responsibility for the carrier since they couldn’t find the purchase in their system, but even if they did, I doubt they would have done anything differently.
So instead, they tell me about how Trek has a discount program for bikes damaged on the road by cars and how I would receive 15−25% off parts and repairs, everything but the paint which they can do nothing about. So I bring the bikes in, they repair them, I go into pick them up and they hand me a bill way higher than the estimate… it was missing the discount they promised. Turns out that the discount was only for carbon bikes, but instead of calling me and telling me they did repairs and charged me $ 80 more.
Performance Bike down the street said they could have done the entire repair for $ 80 when I took the bikes over there for another estimate after the fact.
As a family we don’t buy from here or Trek bikes anymore, onto Cannonade and Specialized which I find to be better anyway, something my blind brand loyalty to Trek kept me from experiencing. Go to a smaller bike shop that cares about their customers rather than a corporate store like here, help the little guy instead.

These guys know their bikes. And they’re fucking friendly as hell.
This visit was kicked off by our attempt to hit the bike trail-​and a once over of my friend’s bike determined we needed to stop by and give it a look over (I could tell the back brake was shot, and the back tire’s valve was pinched).
We pop in — and what we hoped was a fifteen minute fix turned in to my friend buying a used bike off the rack, getting a new helmet, and getting out the door to the trail.
She rode it, they helped insure a proper fit, polished it up, and sent us on our merry way.
Now, I have to take my bike in for a tune up and get some road tires…

Very satisfied with my experience here. I stopped in with a specific bike in mind. The sales person showed me the bike, helped me take it for a spin, made sure the fit was right, and compared it to another bike so I was sure of my purchase. There was no pressure, no upselling, nothing. Very happy.
I got good recommendations on accessories, useful tips on my new bike, and was hooked up with a sale price a few hours before it went live. Great place for beginners to get into biking and I’m sure I’ll be back as I get more experienced.

This is the most Serious Biking store I visited during my bike shopping spree.
The least expensive road bike here is about $ 200 – 300 more expensive than any of the other stores I checked out, and the components (shifters, derailleurs, etc) on the bikes didn’t really make it worth it.
However, the salesperson at this store was really super helpful about explaining the differences in the various components but unfortunately everything she said made it clear that I’d have to drop a ton of ca$h money to get a decent starter bike that I wouldn’t hate in 6 months. Blerg. However, she did encourage me to take one of the bikes for a spin. Unlike the other stores that I took bikes out for test drives, the Trek store makes you leave your ID, which seems normal. just don’t forget your ID if you want to test a bike!
The other weird thing is the sizing at this store. It was definitely better than Paradise Garage, but nowhere near as advanced as how they do fittings at roll. But it was more of an eyeballing thing than a precise measurement, and I’m all about precise measurements, as I am a huge science nerd.
They also have an insane number of very fancy helmets, shoes, and clothing. And really cool skateboards as well.

Great Trek store. I bought my road bike here and get all my bikes serviced here. Knowledgeable team and great location.
They also organize group rides locally.

Holy geez! What a store! What an experience!
I stopped in Saturday looking to just try out some bikes and get a feel for the road style. I didn’t really intend to buy and made that clear to the guy who came to help me almost immediately. Regardless, he worked with me and fit the bike to me and answered every question I had fully. He pointed me in the direction of bikes that would meet my needs best and let me ride one on a test for almost a half hour. All this, and he still thought I wasn’t buying that day.
Well, like I sometimes do, I changed my mind. I fell head over heels in love with a Lexa road bike and decided to purchase it. When I made my intentions to buy known he chuckled and began to help me with the purchasing process. Trek is really great with that. They did a full tune-​up, fitted my customizing purchases (a new water bottle cage, some different pedals, etc), even had someone come out to help me pick out the biking shorts that would not only be most comfortable on me, but work best for my seat style. WOW!
Also, if you ever find you may need servicing on your bike, you can drop it off or stop and shop at ANY Trek Store, not limited to just the ones in Columbus either. If you are out biking away in Nebraska and find you need something repaired, find that Trek Store and your warranty has you covered. That’s some impressive service plan.
When you purchase your new bike, you get 10% off any accessories you buy, so be sure to check out what they have, because it’s a lot. Also, be sure to check them out when they are running a sale because I know Trek bikes are expensive (though they are more than worth it) and I walked out the door saving around $ 200 on my bike by shopping during their pre-​Pelotonia summer sale.

I have purchased two trek bikes from this store and I couldn’t be more pleased. First, a couple of years ago I purchased a MTB, and was very pleased with the sales staff, who did an excellent job of listening to what I wanted and how I would be riding. They ended up fitting me with a great bike that I still ride to this day.
Just recently I decided that I wanted to purchase another bike, I first thought of Trek. I ended up going to a couple of different local stores before deciding that I was going to with Trek.
David on my first visit, and Erin on my second, both did an excellent job of helping me find that bike that would fit me best, and would last me many years. They weren’t pushy, and you could tell that they really cared about my happiness with the purchase.
Many people complain that Trek bikes are expensive, and they are, but they are totally worth it. They are built well, and their staff at the local stores are amazing. To me that makes it worth it.

I purchased my bike as well as both of my parents bikes from Trek. The quality is outstanding, and the variety caters to all types of bikers. I was interested in getting into triathlons and thought I should have a hybrid, because this was a somewhat large investment, I took some time to research the options. I ended up getting a LeMond road bike. It’s so light and so fast! For my parents, I got matching hybrids. I got a his and hers… so cute.
With the purchase of a bike, you get 10% off of any accessory, even bike racks! So, of course, Ioaded up on gloves, shorts, water bottles, sunglasses, computers, clips, shoes, seriously, whatever I thought I might use. I have to tell you that I have certainly gotten my money’s worth. I ride nearly every day when weather is accommodating.
If you every need service, you can either drop off you bike (suggested during busy days, like weekends), or I would try to stop in shortly after opening during the week. If it’s a simple flat or minor adjustment, it will probably be ready while you shop.
