Holy crap. The noodle soup and dumplings are ridiculously good! I never pass up a chance to get food from Tokyo GoGo. Delicious!

I finally had the opportunity to order Tokyo GoGo while at Brothers’ Drake Meadery this past weekend. My boyfriend and I arrived around 6:30PM, solely to enjoy dinner there. Easily finding a seat along the back wall, we settled in with our Apple Pie and waited for the goodness to arrive. Together we shared three items: the Gyoza Pork Dumplings, the Karaage, and the Korokke. The Gyoza Dumplings were standard. I was expecting to be a bit more blown away by them, but they ended up falling flat. They are just very similar to what you would find in any average take-out or dine-in Asian restaurant. The pork meat was on the bland side and the dumpling bread was soggy. They are also fried close together, so you have to rip them apart to share or just eat one. Plus the fact that the tops were soggy made it impossible to pull them apart without ripping the dumplings open. The Karaage was their signature-fried chicken with mead sauces and it was delicious! Essentially little popcorn chickens, these babies were fried to perfection, the meat inside tasty and juicy, and the sauces the perfect complement! The Korokke, however, was the highlight of the evening! If you have a thing for deep fried cheese, this is where you will find heaven. Five little fried potatoes and gooey cheese with what tasted like ketchup and mayo drizzled on top. While probably wholly bad for you, these are perfect after a night of drinking or when in need of some good comfort food.

This truck is freakin’ awesome. I’m a first time visitor but long time lurker at this place, since I used to pass it almost everyday coming home from work. That, and I heard they have killer fried chicken which was true. Tokyo GoGo is almost exclusively in Brothers Drake’s parking lot, so much so that their menu is printer on the back of the Meadery’s drink menu. What I’m saying is, you won’t have trouble finding this one. Plus, if you’re having drinks at Brothers Drake, you can just order food through your server, and they’ll place and deliver your order to you in the bar. The menu looked like a bunch of smaller dishes, and I wanted to try everything, so we ordered four different plates: korokke, karaage(fried chicken), dumplings, and enoki fries. There wasn’t a bad dish in the bunch. Everything was delicious, and all of it cost less than $ 20. I don’t know what makes the fried chicken different from any other great fried chicken place(the pieces are basically strips), but the sauce that comes with them is excellent. My girlfriend said the gyoza was some of the best she’s had, and the sauce with it was nice and tangy, but my favorite was probably the korokke. It’s these nice balls of potatoes and cheese that come with tonkatsu mayo. I’m assuming they’re not at all good for you, since they’re essentially Japanese pierogis, but I could probably down more than one order to myself. The enoki was pretty good, and kind of reminded me of fried green beans and makes for a great bar snack without getting too full. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. It’s some delicious Japanese street food that you really can’t find a whole lot of in Columbus. Those meads at Brothers Drake will get you feeling tipsy pretty quick, so it makes for a great base coat before a long night out.

Karrage and edamame… yum! I also tried the seaweed salad and the eggplant special with vegan broth. The broth was in. sane… so flavorful and complex. Everything was great!

Really good stuff. Highly reccomend the potato cheese ball things. Watch out for the gyoza! Mine was burnt.

I really love food trucks for some reason. There is something just really fun about a person that has such a passion for making food and the confounds of a resturant just dont suit them. With Tokyo GoGo I really feel the passion directed in the food. Which is a beautiful thing. The Korokke and Enoki Fries are the hot item on their menu as far as I’m concerned, and the price for these delectable treats are all very reasonable. Not to mention its right next door to my favorite bar in columbus Brothers Drake. I could(and have in the past) spend hours in that location listening to music, eating tastey food, and drinking delicious mead. Highly recomend if you are going out on the town.

Food was decent quality and very tasty. The pork dumplings were great and the edamame was very fresh. Overall a great spot for quick fresh food on the go!

Needless to say, I discovered Tokyo GoGo after a night out at Brothers Drake. I skipped dinner earlier that day, so I was starving by the time I approached the truck. I literally wanted to order every single item on their menu. The lady taking orders was pleasant and polite. She steered me in the right direction. I ended up ordering the karaage(Japanese fried chicken), house made gyoza dumplings and the agedashi tofu(deep fried tofu served with shitake and enoki mushroom broth). After a night of drinking, the fried chicken really hit the spot. Crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. Easy to eat finger food. The karaage was accompanied with two sauces. One resembled a mayonnaise base hibachi white sauce and the other was a sweet and spicy hot sauce. I loved the spicier sauce. The agedashi tofu was also delicious. The broth was sweet and flavorful and the tofu melted in my mouth. The gyoza were a little bit disappointing in terms of being soggy and somewhat stuck together. Perhaps it was more of a transportation issue. They were still quite tasty, but I was just hoping for a little more crispiness. Tokyo GoGo is not helping with the vicious cycle of binge drinking followed by binge eating. Tokyo GoGo together with Brothers Drake is dangerous combination. They are a dynamic duo. They are food & drink’s equivalent of Outkast in hip hop. A force to be reckoned with. I would give them 4.5÷5 stars if I could. But i’ll round up just because I’ve never encountered a Japanese food truck before and i’m surprised that I found one in Columbus of all places.

We ordered almost everything on the menu: korokke, karaage, agedashi tofu, gyoza, soba, udon, enoki fries, and some new mushroom special. Despite being the only people here, it took over 30 minutes to get our food, which seems too long for a food truck. Price was ~$ 45. I would consider this reasonable for the amount of food we got. The bottoms could have been crispier, but the gyoza was pretty decent. The enoki fries were ok and would probably be good with beer. We didn’t care much for the agedashi tofu. It was kind of slimy with hardly any discernible agedashi flavor. The udon noodles were a little overcooked, and the broth was bland. I like these food trucks and really wanted to like this place, but I can’t really recommend it.

I was heading home from the airport and came to grab something to go. I got the udon and country miso soup. The udon was just right, it hit the spot. It was nicely packaged in separate containers for the noodles and for the soup so it wouldn’t be soggy when I got home. The country miso soup is interesting! It’s a nice fusion dish with what tastes like miso soup and a country potato soup mashed together but spicy. Excited to go back and try more items! They always cook everything fresh so it’s worth the wait!

Ummm, let me tell you… I HATE/LOATHE mushrooms. Any kind. Seriously… they’re gross and as to why all you other folks, aka mushroom lovers, love them… well, it’s beyond me. Anyway, every time I’m at Brother’s Drake I get the Enoki Fries with Green Tea Salt. They’re to… die…for. Seriously. My mouth is watering now talking about them and could probably eat four baskets of them. The rest of their food is amazing too but that’s my favorite thing on the menu. Very fresh. Authentic and delicious. If you hate this food truck then, I’m sorry but we can’t be friends. Go. Go now and eat all the things.

Loooooooove this food truck! Karrage is amazing! Enoki fries are dusted with green tea salt. Udon is good, but like others have said, it’s not as good as Tensuke. The food is freshly prepped because they make it after you order. You can eat your food at Brother’s Drake(you can even order directly from Brother’s Drake!) I definitely want to come back and try other things on the menu. The place was not an easy find. It’s tucked away on the side street behind the Kroger on High St. Parking could be hard to find, but we had really good luck. There are cars that are just crammed next to the food truck at a little lot in front of Brother’s Drake. Not sure if those are for customers or for the owners.

I love all the asian food trucks that are popping up in Columbus. This one in particular is in a great location because it’s right next to the meadery bar where you can bring your food in to eat. Most of their items are side dishes and priced a little higher than what I’m used to paying on the west coast. I had the $ 8 udon which was delicious, but still doesn’t beat Tensuke Express’ udon dishes. However, it’s a solid udon and probably the best value on the menu. I will be coming back since it’s much closer to my apt than Tensuke.

For my 500th review, I wanted to write about something special. I grew up in LA which has food trucks galore, and food trucks are also a big thing in DC/Chicago which are cities I’ve spent a good amount of time in. So I didn’t expect to find what I would consider the best food truck to be in Columbus of all places. But it is here and it’s Tokyo GoGo. From their menu, I tried the following dishes: 1) Pork belly — really great glaze although felt a bit guilty cause of how fatty it is(as expected since it’s pork belly). What would take this dish truly over the top is if they made this in bao form 2) Karaage — fried chicken with two dipping sauces. One was Asian inspired and the other is honey mustard lol. Still awesome and probably the best value since they give you a generous amount. 3) Enoki fries — deep fried enoki mushrooms. This was my favorite thing. If there’s anything I’d love to win a lifetime supply of, it’s these thingys. 4) Soba — a great warming soupy dish for a cold day. They were out of udon though, which is what I would’ve preferred :( Everything I tried was tasty, and some were amazing even. I just noticed someone say in another review that the korokke = takoyaki so I definitely have to return to get that, along with more enoki fries. Bring your food inside the Brother’s Drake Meadery, and paired with some delicious mead and live music, it’s one of the best offbeat dining experiences you can have in Columbus. Trust.

Late night food done right. They almost fill the hole that FreshStreet left in my heart. I’m a big fan of the enoki fries with green tea salt, best eaten straight from the frier. The veggie(or pork) dumplings are an interesting cross between gyoza and a very thin omelet. They may not be to everyone’s taste but I like them a lot, even though they quickly fall apart when dipped in their accompanying sauce. My favorite dish is their cold ramen topped with a variety of chopped veggie and a hard-cooked egg, which can be left off. On the side is sesame oil, creamy tahini-like dressing and a dollop of hot mustard. This is enough to make a refreshing light meal, especially in the summer. Unfortunately, the one thing I don’t like is their tofu. Not only is it soft but has been dredged in flour(rice perhaps?) that becomes gelatinous in the warm broth it’s served in. This, however, is strictly a matter of taste like the dumplings. I would highly recommend TokyoGoGo to anyone who wants to try something new and delicious.

FRIEDENOKI. During a recent visit to Brothers Drake, my sister and I tried several items from Tokyo GoGo, including the karaage, dumplings, pork belly, and fried enoki. The enoki was by far the best of the four, and it’s a bit dangerous for me to know that these are available for just four dollars, a couple of blocks from my apartment. The karaage was a good portion, and the pork belly was good though not quite something I would order again. The order of dumplings was just slightly too much towards the burnt end of the spectrum, but still good. You can order outside at the truck and take your food to go, or sit inside at the bar and place your order via the bartenders; your food will be brought inside for you to enjoy with your drink! I’ll definitely be coming back on quiet evenings to grab a bite from the truck and a kombucha from the bar.

Damn that Aaron A!!! I first tried Tokyo GoGo nearly two weeks ago, when they were giving out samples of some of the menu items inside of Brothers Drake. I considered going ahead and writing a review then, but figured I should come have a proper visit before reviewing. Lo and behold, as I start to write up a review last night, Aaron has posted his just one hour prior! So I called him a dirty fucker and told him I was no longer in a hurry to get mine posted. There is no Second To Review for review number two. Lol. We’re friends by the way, it was in good spirits that I called him a dirty fucker. Anyhoot, Tokyo GoGo is the joint venture of the GM of Brothers Drake and his wife, whose dream it was to start a Japanese food truck. Mission: accomplished. This explains the location(side lot of Bros Drake) and ability to order on your bar tab. My card is a piece of crap so I got to make use of this benefit when I placed my order since the Square wouldn’t take it outside. I ordered the inari and vegetable tempura. The prices on the food are priced very reasonably. The inari was $ 2 and the tempura only $ 6. My food arrived(they will deliver it to you inside the meadery) with a better presentation than one would expect from a food truck. The inari were large and placed delicately on a cute black plate, while the tempura were arranged with some thought into a typical paper tray. The inari(edamame and sticky sushi rice wrapped in tofu and fried) were really good, but I was surprised at the temperature. They were probably not quite even room temperature. I can’t say whether that’s intended or not without googling it, and I don’t care enough to look [addendum: finally checked. It’s served cold]. They still tasted good. The tempura was tempura. It’s pretty hard to screw up and pretty amazing everywhere I’ve had it. No different at Tokyo GoGo. I would agree with Aaron that the food DOES pair surprisingly well with the drinks inside. I was having a Colombian, and the flavors all balanced together in perfect harmony.

Tokyo Gogo is a new food truck serving authentic Japanese street food. They are open most days in the parking lot of Brothers Drake Meadery. It’s nice because you can order food from inside the bar. Food truck goodness without all the standing outside. I’ve tasted most of the menu and everything is fantastic. Standouts include the korokke, a fried potato thing with cheese. Agedashi tofu, deep fried tofu in a thick, savory mushroom broth, and delicious delightful dumplings pan fried with pork and veggies inside. You could eat the whole menu for about $ 50 if you were so inclined. All the dishes pair surprisingly well with the mead they’re serving inside the bar. Go check it out Unilocalers!
