First and foremost — the posted hours on Unilocal are incorrect. Thankfully I phoned prior to visiting this quaint little gem or I would have missed out! I mentioned to Ellen, the owner of Things on Third the confusion with the hours, she said it is something she has been trying to correct for years. Perhaps it is time organizations be given the opportunity to review Unilocal? Nonetheless, I thought I would take a moment to give Ellen a little justice and post her CORRECTHOURSOFOPERATION. They are as follows: Monday: Closed Tuesday: Closed Wednesday: 10 a.m. — 5 p.m. Thursday: 10 a.m. — 5 p.m. Friday: 10 am — 5 p.m. Saturday: 10 a.m. — 3 p.m. Sunday: Closed Things on Third embodies the true spirit of so many things. First — It is a true«Small Business,» the shop is located in the same building as Brown Calabretta Architects and occupies the bottom floor. Second — They are a great community asset. As stated on the business card I picked up while there Things on Third offers«Quality Oddments, Junque, and Décor» — what makes that so different from any place else? Things on Third is a consignment shop providing local area residents with a resource take items from their home they no longer use/need. Third — Recycling. See above. The presence of stores such as Things on Third not only provides people with an outlet to make a little pocket change but keeps countless things, little treasures from being thrown away and ending up in a landfill. Finally — Value. Ellen is realistic and prices things accordingly unlike many of the area«chain» «thrift» stores that need reminded the premise of thrift or second hand is to provide things they have been GIVEN at an affordable price for people living on a tight budget, not to support their advertising and large corporate salaries. Things on Third is definitely a small business that is worth the visit and worthy of support.

This is a pretty fun store. Think of Hallmark, but with everything priced extremely cheap. Home décor, seasonal adornments, kitchen crockery and even some off-the-beaten-path items(such as what appeared to be a stuffed cat, marked down to a dollar) line the walls and floors. I even saw some canned jellies and vegetables. If I lived closer I’d probably come here quite regularly. The lady at the shop was friendly and found my selections to be quite amusing. Don’t come here looking for anything specific, but if you like to dig through treasures and are looking for housewares on the cheap, Things on Third is your destination. But SHHHH — it’s our little secret!

Feels like you’ve stumbled onto a secret thrift store — you’d easily miss the meager sign in front of what looks like a residential-only building. Downstairs you’ll find many small rooms of various items; I saw a lot of country décor items. Almost went away empty-handed until I spotted an old bakelite Viewmaster in the display case for $ 6. score!

Located in the basement of a house is Things on Third. Ellen Brown, the proprietor, runs her business by selling home décor items, personal accessories and entertainment items new and used by consignment. It’s a good little shop. I have been there a few times and have been able to find some things at quite reasonable prices, especially in the kitchen areas. Sometimes you can even catch things on sale and get them at an even greater price. For instance, I got a set of four wine glasses for originally $ 1.50, but on sale for 50% off, they were only 75 cents! Each room divides what is being sold. On the wall in the basement hallway are purses and handbags. Kitchen items are sold in one full room and then one that is half kitchen items and half décor. In an adjacent room is pottery, yarn, thread, sewing machines and other sewing supplies. By the checkout counter are cards, jewelry, and bath and body products. Books, games, music and VHS are in another room while lamps are in yet another room. Recently rooms have been added upstairs. They do take card with no minimum charge.
