Meet the Business Owner
John C.
Business Owner
I started working in slate roofing in the summer of 1985 on my summer breaks during college. When I graduated from UCLA in 1989, I began working full time at The Durable Slate Company, and I became a partner in the business in 1992. Since that time, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to personally work on some fabulous buildings like the Ohio Governor’s Mansion in Columbus, the Old Brennan Mansion in New Orleans, The Thomas Legare House in Charleston, SC, Sarasota County Courthouse in Sarasota, etc.
Also in that time, I’ve traveled the country as a slate and tile roof consultant for firms such as Church Mutual, State Farm, Lloyd’s of London in places from Los Angeles to New York city. I’ve become certified by Haag Engineering in all aspects of residential and commercial roofing, as well as being certified by Copper Development Association in copper roofing and the Tile Roofing Institute in tile roofing. I also currently serve as the President of the National Slate Association.
