My mom and I were very excited to try this bar, after having driven by it countless times. It looked fun, fresh, and the online presence boded well. However, when we walked down to The Blue Pickle at 4.30 on a Saturday, they were closed! I had checked both Facebook(claiming they opened at 2) and Unilocal(opens at 3). We walked to another bar to have a few beers and decided to come back later, around 6. At this point, the doors were open and the lights were on, but we were the only patrons. The man at the bar couldn’t pour us any drinks, and when he brought out the bartender, she was unnecessarily rude after I’d asked if they had any drink specials or house cocktails. After serving us, the bartender disappeared again. We felt that we were a burden and not welcome, so we decided to pay our tab after one drink and call it. I’d really been looking forward to trying this bar, and want to try and give it another chance later in the evening when there is a band on, but I’m not sure if its worth my time!

The Blue Pickle was amazing. I went with a friend to catch up since we hadn’t seen each other in awhile. The female bartender that was mentioned before was very friendly to my friend and I who had never been there. She wasn’t even on the clock but jumped up to help me and my friend when my friend dropped and broke her full bottle of beer(lol! First one of the night to boot!). I returned a couple weeks later to the food truck that’s next to it because the veggie tostadas are amazing!!! He keeps all his ingredients fresh, it’s awesome! Another bar employee saw me waiting outside and invited me in to check out their new paint job. You can also write in chalk on the walls in the back area, pretty spiffy! They have some really cool drink specials, too. Margaritas were $ 3 when I went there, it was great!

The female bartender apparently only talks to regulars. And they are not the type of individuals that draw customers… Then there is this weird, we want to be a band, but I think we just need to warm up for an hour… Everything that made Porters a flop has clearly carried over…

This place has been quietly opening over the last few months. Aaron the owner is improving the place little by little, every day. They have five great dart boards, a stage for bands, A couple TV’s, a full bar and there’s always a really good Mexican food truck parked outside if you’re hungry. Aaron is experimenting with different themes for each night. Karaōke on Fridays, bands Saturday, dart leagues, open mic nights, etc. It should be a fun place, with something for everyone. He has great plans, and really pays attention to what people want. The front patio is surrounded by planters — look for them on the west side of High Street once you’re north of Graceland. Great little neighborhood bar, glad they’re here. *Disclaimer: This is a bar that happens to have a food truck parked outside most of the time. That said, don’t expect a sit-down meal or full service kitchen.
