Synergi Salon was opened in June of 2006 in Whitehall, Ohio by Columbus’ own Master Stylist Karen «KG» Gary. Karen has always been a gifted stylist, displaying excellence in cutting and styling hair; but when clients wanted to grow their hair long, she came up short. She wanted to give clients what they were asking for, but began to notice the lack of progress and the damage her clients’ hair received between visits. Her 22 years of experience prompted her to research hair issues and develop hair products to accommodate her clients needs during the salon process, as well as at home.

Synergi is Columbus’ premier hair salon featuring 1 hour wash and style services. Known for producing natural hair that looks relaxed, Synergi Salon specializes in color and cuts and uses Karen’s own patented Synergi GetItStrait. System.

100% of Karen’s client base is natural, but you would never know by looking at them since most clients wear their hair bone straight. She offers new clients a plan and a promise: A one year relaxer free journey with her expertise as a guide, a choice of 12 easy to use at home maintenance products designed to assist with growing out the relaxer, and the promise that her plan will return their hair to its strong, thick, long, healthy, natural state.

I;ve been doing hair for over 22 years. Ive always been good at cutting and styling hair. But if my clients ever wanted their hair to grow longer and stronger I would have not answers for them. I started working one on one with my clients and notice that with my help they were able to grow out their relaxers. Their hair was amazing! I vowed that i would never use chemicals again. I needed help, business was so lucrative. God sent me angels (synergi stylist) that supported my vision of getting back to real hair, customer service and a strong salon our community would be proud of

Pretty good. I’m normally always in and out in under an hour and a half which is unheard of for (stereotypical) black salons. I really think the quality depends on who you go to. I’ve tried the owner and three different stylists. All but one were knowledgeable and knew how to manage thick, natural, Type 4 hair. One of the stylists came at my coils with a rat tooth comb for detangling, so that was a problem. Never thought I would rave about the products, but their shampoo really is amazing. It kept my flat twists shiny (ok as shiny as 4c hair can be) and moisturized for a week. Moisturized and touch-​ably soft for a whole stinkin’ week without product! The last time I went, it seemed like the stylist double booked. I sat in a chair for a good 20 minutes (not the norm) and had to leave to get my son. So I simply left with just a blow out. It wasn’t a huge deal since I know how to do my own hair, its doing my own blow outs that hurt my arms. They ended up charging me $ 15 for the wash which was fair.

I started going to Synergi Salon in October 2014. I decided to go to this salon because I wanted to get to know my hair better and get it in the best shape possible.
When the shampoo assistant washed my hair, she was very complimentary stating how thick my hair was, how nice the color was and how nice the curl pattern was. Once I arrived to Karen Gary’s chair, she blew my hair dry and told me that my hair was thick, but it could be thicker… That if I used her product, I would grow a whole new head of thick healthy hair. I was a little surprised because I hated combing through my hair because it was very thick. I just didn’t like the texture due to the color. Karen cut/​trimmed my hair and told me to shampoo my hair daily & put no moisture on it … because I workout and come back in 2 month for another trim. I purchased the products & complied with her treatment plan.
Once using the products I noticed lots of hair in the shower. When I went back to Karen, she said that was good as I was loosing the old hair and growing a new head. I continued the treatment plan for another 2 months and continued to aggressively loose hair. When I went back in for my next appointment, my front hairline was bald and my hair was see thru… Karen again said this was okay, as this is past of the process of growing new hair.
Within the next 2 months, I decided that if I have to shed it all to grow a new head of hair, I may as well shave my head… which is what I did. I continued to shampoo my hair daily and add no moisture as recommended by Karen. About 1 month in, I noticed patches in my scalp and hair on my shoulders. I was bald and still loosing my hair. My hair was healthy before I started using Synergi’s products. Unfortunately, I was naïve and believed in one woman’s vision of hair care as it is NOT a one size fits all. And Karen Gary needs to take responsibility for that! My hair is back on track and flourishing, fully energized and full of moisture. It’s important that we listen to what is best for us, not what people tell us is best for us.

My first trip to Synergi wasnt exactly what I had hoped for. I was in a friends wedding and I had just taken my braids out a week before. I knew that I wanted a trim and something cute for her wedding. The stylist went over what the options were and stated that a style could be chosen/​decided after we checked the length. Now I can say she washed the life out of my hair and I appreciated it! It definitely was needed. So cut to deciding on a style… she asked what I wanted. I mentioned I was attending a wedding and wanted something cute. Needless to say I wasnt happy with the result. The styling wasnt good and I dont know if she cared that I was visibly unhappy with it. I agree the front desk service was kinda sub-​par, plus while I was there the cable/​internet was out and they had no idea who people were there to see. May give it another try…

My first was an amazing trip but the second was also great but then the result of hair is not what I wasn’t so happy about. But overall they are real great caring, no gossip, no drama, but they focus on your hair and it depends who does it. Those women can turn into your girlfriends or something people. Round of Applause!

New customers here as a birthday gift to my 8 yr old neice for a cut and style. Neutral greeting on arrival, not inviting, not off-​standish, no issue.
Stylist: Chrishelle, sweet, professional and she did a great job on her hair!
Rudely spoken to by another stylist with a contradictory statement than that of the stylist providing tbe service. Instead of speaking to the new customer maybe address the person performing the service to address your concerns? The stylist was put on the spot and placed in an awkward position and I am left with a less than positive first impression. No apology given to me after the stylist spoke with her to correct her assumption.
Intercity doesn’t have to be synonymous with unprofessional apathetic service.

This is the BEST place to go if you have curly hair. I traveled 2,500 miles for my appointment and had a wonderful experience. I had been using Miss Karen’s products for almost 2 years and when I had the opportunity to visit the salon and get a hair cut, I booked my trip. I want to comment on someone’s review of the place about not using products that she had brought from home. Sorry honey, but that’s like going to McDonald’s with a bag of groceries and asking them to cook a burger with your own food! Synergi Salon is famous for the unsurpassed quality of their services. It’s really sad that you were not able to give it a try. It’s the quality of their exclusive line of hair products, combined with their expertise, that make your curls soft and bouncy; or shiny and straight if you choose that style. For the first time in my life I was able to go out when it was snowing and not have to worry about my hair frizzing like a Brillo pad. Too bad I can’t give more than 5 stars. Karen and her team are awesome professionals.

I have been here 3 or 4 times so I can write this review with confidence. I also can only talk about my experience with one hairstylist, Royce, because that is who I would see.
Pros– Online scheduling is great!
— Hair always looked great!
— Stylist fun to chat with.
Cons– The front desk was always unfriendly and acting like you are inconveniencing them
— Every time I got my hair done I lost hair, I remember seeing her use this tiny comb and literally rip through my hair!
— THE WAIT! I have went on several different days and several different times and I have always waited at least an hour to even get in the chair which is ridiculous. I went on a TUES afternoon and still waited an hour!
I would have made this 3 stars if that wait wasn’t as ridiculous as it was, cute hair, long wait, fun stylist, hair damage…

I might update this review if I’m ever able to make an appointment b/​c the receptionist (s) here seem to be lacking basic skills to manage the front desk. When I first called I was put on hold for 10 – 15 minutes after asking what I thought would be a simple question about their services. No one ever got back on the line to let me know I wasn’t forgotten or apologize about the wait. Eventually I hung up and called back after 10 mins and was immediately put back on hold w/​o any explanation. About 10 more mins someone finally picks up, seemed confused about the very same question, so at this point I didn’t care and just wanted to book an appt. She then proceeded to put me back on hold because she was ‘multitasking’ and there were people at the front desk. It was the complete opposite of multitasking… 10 – 15 mins later of continuous hold music and I finally gave up. She clearly didn’t want my business.
Sad thing is I have heard and read (albeit rather old) rave reviews about this salon and I tried my hardest to book an appt. to experience it for myself. I would recommend hiring more professional & efficient front desk members that can handle this position b/​c they establish a terrible 1st impression. At this point my gut feeling is if I go here overall I’ll probably find myself underwhelmed.

After a couple bad experiences, I did not like anyone touching my hair. One day, I decided to give Synergi a try because I wanted to straighten my hair. I absolutely love this place. Felicia did an amazing job and was very gentle. My hair was so bouncing and shiny after she flat ironed it. So excited I found this place!

I went to Synergi today and am giving the salon 5 stars! Aishia was my stylist and I really think that she did a fantastic job. I am not natural and I get a relaxer about 3−4x a year in DC and I visit Columbus periodically. Aishia was super helpful and explained how many clients make the transition from relaxed to natural hair. She gave me specific information about of the products she used. She also talked to me about my curl pattern and the range of styles that I could pursue. While I was there, I saw a host of clients with natural hair including children and women with both short and long hair. Everyone left the salon with shiny and healthy hair. I got my hair washed, blow-​dried, flat ironed and curled. I sat there in awe as clients came in and out with all-​natural hair. This was the first time that I’ve been to a natural hair salon and as a result of my great experience, I may consider taking the plunge and not getting relaxers any more. This is due to seeing the great work-​product at Synergi and the wonderful experience I had with Aishia. Aishia was personable, kind, conversational, and she did an excellent job. Highly-​recommended! If I come back to Columbus and need to get my hair done I will come here!

I’m trying to figure out what happened from the time I started going there in July 2011 to the day in July 2012 I decided that the salon had gone seriously downhill. I think perhaps the popularity of the place has overwhelmed the management and staff.
When first started going there, I drank the Kool-​Aid. The stylists are very knowledgable about black hair and I went to one of the styling workshops, which was very rah-​rah.
I like the hair products when they are actually available, but they seem to have supply problems. For example, I think in the year I went there, I was able to buy the recommended hair glaze once. And even then I pre-​paid for it and had to wait on a list for it to come in about three weeks later. I’ve not seen it stocked since. The same goes for the hair mousse, which it turns out is likely just repackaged Design Essentials brand in a Synergi bottle. I do love the shampoo and conditioner, though.
As for the stylists, I’m not going to name names because it seems like a general problem. Okay, let’s get real: for natural hair, they’re really not doing anything high-​tech. I did see some cute styles walk out of there, but for what I had done (shampoo, trim, twists), nothing special. For that reason, I changed stylists at one point to see someone who was available for my schedule. And guess what? My initial stylist totally BLANKED me when I came in after that. I was, like, seriously? This ain’t some NYC salon. But, then, when I came in to buy product, the second stylist blanked me as well. I’m willing to go with they just didn’t hear me say hello, but whatever.
The final straw of me not coming back was, like Rachael, waiting 45 minutes for an appointment, getting shunted off to a junior stylist because they’d overbooked the senior stylist, and it taking me 2.5 hours instead of the usual one to get out of there.
Okay, I lied: the final final straw was that (and this may have changed) when I first started going there, you could only make an appointment online and only pay with a credit or debit card. TWICE after using my card there, weird unauthorized charges popped up and I had to get new cards. I have no proof that this was Synergi’s faulty, but if you check their internet security info in the address bar, the site’s not verified nor encrypted meaning sending your credit card info via their site leaves your precious info ass out in the world for fraudsters and identity thieves. The penultimate time I went, I noticed a woman paying cash, so I did the same the last time I bought product.
If, after all this advise, you still decide to go, use a prepaid card with the exact amount of your services on it so you don’t get jacked.

I didn’t have as great of an experience as the other ladies have described.
1. The salon was difficult for me to find since I’m not from the area. It’s actually named differently on the outside of the building.
2. My appointment was scheduled from 10−11am. I didn’t get in the chair until 10:45am and I was there until 2:15pm.
3. There were at least 5 women whose appointments were after mine that were in/​out before me.
4. The salon seemed very unprofessional and understaffed. I was treated as if I was just another head of hair that needed to be done than someone my stylist truly wanted to help.
5. It was a disappointing experience because I expected so much based on the information/​videos on the website.
The Positive:
Whenever my stylist did attend to me during my 3.5 hour visit, I did like the product that was being used on my hair. It did feel manageable although it wasn’t styled to my liking. So I definitely recommend the product.
Lastly, because my experience was very horrible and I was walking out, my stylist did apologize and take $ 10 off my total and spent the last 15 minutes I had left to offer on just my hair.
I’m not sure if my experience was just an isolated incident, but I had to share it.

Shampoo, condition, blow dry and style ~ IN AN HOUR!!! No kidding, no lie! No more all day at the salon, no more going home smelling like today’s salon «lunch special»!
Professional stylists doing what they do in a friendly, informative way. Your stylist is ready for you when you get there, and won’t leave you sitting under a too hot dryer.
The staff is well versed in their craft and it shows when you take that final look in the mirror.
Another plus is the fee is NEVER a surprise, nor does it change from appointment to appointment.
Whether you go weekly, monthly or 4 times a year, you’re always greeted warmly and treated professionally.

Ok, $ 30! That’s right ladies… this is what happens when you do 24 hours worth of research via the internet. I received a hairology lesson, wash and press all within an hour (ladies of color you know this is un-​heard of) Gone are… «all day, my butt hurts cause I’ve been sitting too long, why is she eating chicken and not doing my hair… I save a whole two weeks pay to get my hair did (sorry grammar), he wont notice days.» I was so excited I forgot to tip! Hopefully this will make up for it a bit.
