Side by Side offers support for families and caregivers of older adults who themselves are coping with «caregiver stress».

Combining experience and empathy, Side by Side can be an important resource to help you deal with the emotional and spiritual challenges that often accompany an older loved one’s increasing frailty.

Side by Side offers guidance and assistance with decisions regarding:

*Assisting with advanced medical directives (living wills)

*Deciding on appropriate living situations

*Choosing palliative or hospice care

*Coping with the dynamics of challenging family systems

But most importantly, Side by Side is «a companion for the latter stretch of life’s road», offering a unique kind of support to caregivers and family members who feeling frustrated, confused and completely overwhelmed. When the feeling of «I can’t take it anymore!» becomes real, Side by Side is there to listen and offer support, because caregivers caring for themselves is just as important as caring for their loved one.

History

Established in 2015.

For 25 years, Cary Kozberg served as Director of Religious Life at Wexner Heritage Village, a senior care facility in Columbus, Ohio. In that capacity, he developed innovative religious and spiritual programming, as part of WHV’s overall program of holistic care. As an integral part of WHV’s Interdisciplinary Care and Continuing Education teams, he helped hundreds of individuals – residents, staff and family members– to better understand the spiritual and emotional aspects of growing​old and frail. Cary is a Board Certified Chaplain and a member of the National Association of Jewish Chaplains, having received that organization’s «Chaplain of the Year» award in 2012. An ordained Rabbi, he received his Masters of Arts in Hebrew Letters and Rabbinical Ordination from the Hebrew Union College-​Jewish Institute of Religion.

Side by Side is there specifically for those who are struggling emotionally with the increasing frailty of an older loved one, serving as a resource to help them navigate through the emotional, moral and spiritual challenges that advanced aging often presents.
