Are all Pier 1 stores this crowded and cramped? I stopped in here to kill some time while I was waiting on my bike at Roll across the street. At first it was fun exploring for wicker thrones, brushed faux-copper treasures and dinnerware with sayings like«Queen of the Kitchen» and«I only have wine on days that in end ‘Y’.» Then I started getting a little warm. Short of breath. How had I stumbled into the clearance corner? My mind began racing as I looked for the exit. Surely I had walked past the Patio furniture, right? But wait, I’m surrounded by acrylic collage picture frames. In my fugue state I backed into a 4-foot polished cherry jewelry box. «SALE!», it taunted, with its plastic-covered name tag. «SALE! SALE! SALE!» I closed my eyes, took a deep breath and felt my way against the wall to the front of the store. «Did you hear about our sale?» shouted an apron-clad messenger who had been guarding the exit. I smiled, my last bit of strength reserved precisely for such an encounter. Fleeing, I ran to Whole Foods for a freshly-pressed carrot, apple, ginger juice. As I sat on the curb with the breeze tempting to blow away my $ 8 receipt, I knew. I was going to survive.

Love. Love. Love. Catch my drift? I LOVE this store! Okay, so I must confess, I fell in love with Pier 1 all over again I’d say, oh, back in the summer of 2007. I know they’ve been around for many years(okay, since 1962), but I was never really a fan of theirs until just a few years ago. In the summer of 2007, I was looking to find a part time job given that I had just left a previous position. Anywho, I stopped in to see if they were hiring and to check out the place. As I walked in the door I was quickly greeted by one of the associates asking if they could help me find what I came in to look for. As a newbie, I just wanted to walk around the store to see what they had and if I could find a good deal on something for the house or for me. :) As I walked around the store, I was greeted by the store manager and other associates to see if they could help me. I was doing alright as I was taking in all the sights, smells and fun stuff they had in the store. The store itself is located in the ‘restructured and revamped’ Lane Ave shopping center — very nice. No more walking in one door and having the ability to walk to all the stores. Nope, its changed. Up to date and very classy for the UA area. The store is open, you can walk around easily and you can find what you are looking for. I know I bought something when I was in the store that summer and I quickly became a fan of P1. Yeah, and even filled out an application while I was there too. I must confess that I worked at this particular Pier 1 for just a little over 3 years. Not only do they have great deals on their merchandise throughout the store, but there are great people to work for and with. Stop by the store. You’ll be glad you did!
