This is a good place to go to clear your sinuses or bring on allergy attack to score a sick day from work… whichever your anatomy allows.
Candles cost $ 12 but they often promotions that bring the prices down if you buy more or a certain amount of a selection.
I’ve never really smelled anything I couldn’t live without but I purchased a vanilla candle for a friend and she was mighty pleased.
This is also a fun out of the way stop during the gallery shop which is also when they have the best sales.

New flavors! cotton (very clean and cool), campfire (not too smoky!), ginger beer (eh, blah. I don’t care for this one), oak moss and bamboo (a little similar to eachother, clean and green smelling… if green has a smell), pipe tobacco (which I really want to call Dad’s stash), and Peppercorn (it is energizing as it says, kind of like a overdo of Tabasco sauce would be on scrambled eggs).
My fav’s, aside from what’s new, is Green Tea, Fresh Cut Wood and Buttle’s 7 or 70 Buttles, or something like that. It’s the combination of all of the flavors in one bottle. It’s their signature scent and kind of sweet.
For only $ 12 a jar, and completely clean burning, these are a steal!

Paul Robinett smells like heaven. Just walk into the store; you’ll smell what I mean.
They have somewhere around 70 fragrances that are all poured onsite. If you’re lucky enough to stop in while they’re pouring some, take a gander. It’s pretty cool. They put in a little wax, a jigger of the intended scent, then pour the rest of the wax in quickly to stir things up.
My favorite scents are probably Red Currant, Grass, Amber, and Basil. There are a few that I don’t like including Musk, Magnolia, and Leather. Then there are those that are just out there like Tomato Leaf and Red Clover Tea.
Each scent has a corresponding number and emotion, for example, Mulled Wine is number 21 and symbolizes comfort.
You’d be surprised how spot-​on the scents are. Smell the apple, it smells like apple. Not the artificial hard candy kind of apple either, a real, fresh-​cut apple.
The store also has a section labeled 7 Buttles in a bottle. This has double significance. The store is located at 7 Buttles Ave, and each 7 Buttles candle is made up of 7 random Paul Robinett fragrances, so they each smell different.
If you have a baby show to go to or need a gift to represent your business or if you just want to formally recognize the fact that you’ve beaten that yellow light on the way to work fifty times now, you can have a set of candles made with special labels including special sayings, photos, and logos.
If you visit frequently, be sure to get a punch card. I think after 10 purchases, you get a candle for free.
My favorite part of the store is the Polaroid wall near the door. Customers take pictures of themselves and write little notes about the candles. The best one is a guy proudly holding two number 6 and proclaiming, ‘My apartment looks like crap, smells like Mango Love.‘
Bonus: Each month there’s a limited-​time signature scent. They usually follow holidays or the seasons, and they’re always extra yummy. One of the recent ones was popcorn. It made me want to watch movies.

My favorite part of this Short North candle shop isn’t the array of scents — everything from lilac to tomato leaf. It isn’t the rad price breaks either — $ 12 for one candle, $ 39 for 4, $ 84 for 12 of the suckers. My favorite part of the Robinett experience is the menu you’re handed at the door.
When you walk into the shop, an employee is bound to hand you a sleek little folded card listing all of Paul Robinett’s 70 scent varieties.
The candles themselves don’t have names on the labels, just numbers.
Without the list, I’m reduced to smelling all the candles, hoping to find one I like. Not only does the card do all the work for me, it also makes me feel like I’m part of a cool club. I get the inside scoop on everything this place offers. I can go straight to the scents that I’m interested in – no more messing around smelling stuff like honeydew melon.
I know everyone gets the list, mind you. I just feel important.

I first took interest in Paul Robinette candles when I learned they had been included in Oscar bags. Not one to miss out on hometown celebrity schwag I parked at a meter and walked in.
The scent in the store is overwhelming in a good way. It smells warm and comforting, like walking into a pie? Lame similes aside the store is set up like a candle café. Over 70 scents are presented to you on a menu card and you sniff your way through them using the menu as a guide. Little one word descriptions are given for each scent. Number thirty, English Ivy, leads to enchantment. 38, Red Wine, leads to warmth. Lemongrass, number 70, is helpful. The scent I wanted was called Firewood. It was sold out. However, the friendly associate told me that they would make new ones and have them in by tomorrow.
Not having a problem picking out other scents I was excited to learn that buying certain amounts of candles leads to discounts. You also get a snazzy punch card that when you have bought ten earns you a candle for free. I smugly took pride in learning Paul Robinette candles go for twice the price in LA. So here in Columbus we get twice the candle for half the price. And you don’t even have to win an Oscar.

I love Paul Robinette candles. They make great gifts and have such a plethora of scents! Amber, Basil, Ocean, Tomato Leaf… the list goes on and on! The more you buy the cheaper they are as well, and you can also get personalized labels for party favors and such.

Paul Robinett is a painter, inventor and photographer. And stopping by his candle shop in the short north one afternoon made my day. After smelling over 50 different varieties I opted for Lilac and Sunflower. As a kid we had a lilac tree in the backyard and I loved cutting fresh stems for my bedroom. The scent is so calming. Not until I burned Paul’s candle did I have that same sense or serenity from a smell. Yankee doesnt’ hold a flame to Paul’s creations.
