Moxie’s

Just held my birthday party here, and HOLY COW, what a fantastic experience! I had so much support from the staff with questions ahead of time, and they created a gorgeous look to fit the theme. The night was perfect, and they went above and beyond to make this a wonderful night. Thank you!!!

Meh — I was expecting old timey candy store. Very average, more like a mixed bag of useless junk with a little bit of old candy thrown in. The employee (Mary?), however, was outrageously rude.

Now in a new location (and kinda hard to find for the moment,) Moxie’s has a mix of party goods and candy. Fun to pick out some candy I haven’t seen since I was a kid. I also liked the magnets made from old advertisements. The owner is very friendly and helpful. She showed me around; they have party rooms for bachelor parties, etc.
Not quite my thing overall, though. I will have to bring Sweetie or my mom; they might be more into it, and I’ll update after that.

Mary at Moxie’s was extremely helpful in planning my sister-in-law’s bridal shower. I went to Moxie’s clueless about what kind of shower I was going to have. She gave me many ideas and options for the shower. We ended up using quite a few of Mary’s ideas and some of our own. She made a beautiful garland and pennant banner for decorations. She arranged all the food and allowed us to bring our own desserts.
During the shower she was there to help with anything but not overbearing. She set up the tables and took everything down afterwards. The location is moving soon but her current location is quaint. Her storefront is cute with all kinds of candy and gifts available for purchase.

I am basing my review on my experience of their web– site and party venue option. I have been hoping for an over the top surprise party for 20 years. I found out yesterday that i was finally getting one. I was annoyed that I found out but was certain my husband would of chose an upscale location for the event. When my friend yold were it was My first thought was «what is Moxie’s?» sounds like a wanna be hipster resturant I wouldn’t care for. So I went to their website hoping to be proven wrong and I was in that in wasn’t a restaurant. As I looked at the site All I saw was a few bad photos and a plain party room with some tables stacked up. No attempt to show what it could be. Anyway, I was hoping for Lyndie’s and this place would of bern great 30 years ago but not what I was hoping for. My husband said I was wrong but I said say it out loud. where was your 38^th birthday party, oh it wad in the back room of a candy shop. Sounds great! Best of luck to Moxie’s but I wish your site would of done you s little justice my husband says you deserve. I chose to cancel all together rather than having it there.

On a recent trip to Columbus, I wondered in to this cute and unique shop. I found lots of things to beautify a kitchen, or make a party a fun event. There were many cute and inexpensive gifts as well. Mary was friendly, and helpful and I loved the fact that she allowed her son to have a part in the store’s inventory.
The interesting and nostalgic candy selection was the best that I have see in a small store. If I needed to plan a party or event, this would be my go to store.
Now that I am writing this, I am thinking of an an upcoming special event that I will need some help with. Look out Mary, I’ll be coming to see you soon!

This little eclectic candy shop in Clintonville is worth stopping into. They have a wide variety of «stuff» ranging from little kitchen gadgets to adorable handmade pendants and an ok selection of candy. The owner though I think was the best part of the visit, she was so genuinely welcoming that I felt more like I was visiting a friend then checking out a new store.

I found myself in a jam a few weeks ago when I was informed by my apartment complex that I could not, in fact, rent the clubhouse area for a small gathering I had planned. So, here I am with a baby shower to host and no idea where to put these strange women, what to feed them, what to do with them in general as baby showers have never been my favorite thing to attend and I was determined to make this one cool. In my head pops an article I read a couple of months ago about a little shop in Clintonville that has party space called Moxie’s. A quick google search and the original Alive article told me just where to go.
I entered Moxie’s desperate and with fingers crossed. It could have been half as cute as it was and I would have booked it just to get on with my party planning. However, once inside I was greeted by Mary, the owner, and I told her what was up as my eyes darted around at all the cute wares. She happened to have my event date available and immediately showed me the party room. Adorable. If you have a group of 30 or under (estimate, I had 20 and it was perfect with plenty of room) for a gathering of any type, this place should be in your address book filed under party planning. Zebra print couches, black and white flooring, crisp white walls, mirror topped accent table, round dining tables with black table cloths (you can get white, black, pink, maybe red and something else to match your theme), generous stack (probably 50 of them) of cute black chairs, couple of move-​able red leather chairs and little side tables, cooler, sink, etc.
Mary asked how I’d like the place set up and suggested options. I told her it was a baby shower that wasn’t overly agonizing – no games and dorky stuff — mainly I wanted people to mingle as there were lots of women who didn’t know each other coming in. I really just let her go with it and she basically read my mind. More about that later.
As our discussion moved back to the store front I started looking around and asking questions. Mary told me that she chooses her sale-​ables to appeal to people who like to entertain. Probably why I adored the place. Tons of host/​hostess gifts from wine and bar service to fiestaware to aprons. Wine openers, travel mugs, decorations relevant to the holiday at hand, fancy paper napkins, vintage bar ware, small jewelry pieces, and candy. Yes candy. The entire side wall devoted to jars of candy to buy by the piece. Priced from a penny up to a couple dollars. With a selection of bags, gift boxes, and jars to fill up with things like carmels, tootsie rolls, retro candy, mints, hard candies, ring pops, you name it.
I booked the room and ordered some favors for my guests. Mary put together little treat boxes filled with an assortment of candy and kept it in my price range. On the day of the event, I walked in and instantly knew this party would be a hit. She set up the back room for people to sit and visit, or cruise and mingle with a plate. Plenty of room for little chatting groups to form. I brought in my own food, cake, beverages (you can even byob), and dinnerware. The cake table had a wonderful topiary piece of dried flowers and a little bunny. A clearly marked gift table, a coat rack out front, and the chalk board in back even said «welcome baby.» Perfect.
Since I had such a great experience there, as did my guests, I’ve gotta recommend this to anyone for any occasion. Shopping: grab something for the host/​hostess of the next party you attend, a housewarming gift, a cute candy jar filled with sweets for a thank you gift, cheer up gift, or just because. Buy yourself some colorful serving trays and fancy napkins for your next gathering. Take the niece and nephew in there and give them a dollar to stretch at the endless wall of candy. Party Room: Host a book club, bridal/​baby shower, anniversary, meeting out of the office, kid’s birthday party, whatever. The hourly rates are very reasonable (well beating out any bland hotel meeting room).
I’ll definitely be back to shop and I’m sure I’ll host another who-knows-what-I’ll-come-up-with-next party. The service was beyond helpful and the store is just darn cute. One more reason to spend time in Clintonville (like I need one).

This is a great little store with a specific mission: to make your party more. Doesn’t that sound like an awesome mission?
they carry lots of cute things for entertaining like platters, antique bar equipment, wine glass decorators, infusion pitchers, and more. Also plenty of nice small things you might take to someone who’s hosing a party.
as an added bonus, there’s a back room in the store which you can rent to throw your own party at. how convenient is that?! they even have a cooler for you to store a cake or whatever you bring for your party.
the owner (or whoever was working when I stopped in) is also a really nice person and a good salesperson. unfortunately, I didn’t buy anything when I stopped in, but I will definitely be back if I need gift inspiration, especially for someone who likes to entertain.
