Sadly, this location is now closed. Go to their Warm Springs Road location. I have not been there yet. If its anything like this locale, then its worth the trip.(706) 507‑2279 5100 Warm Springs Rd, Columbus, GA31909. Cross Streets: Between Hearthstone Dr and Schomburg Rd.

Wow, maybe it’s me, but this is my favorite place for bbq in Georgia. The other reviews don’t seem to agree. I’ve probably eaten here 50 time over the past ten years. I used to travel almost weekly from out of state to Columbus for work, and there was hardly a week that I wouldn’t stop here at least once. Yes, it’s not the cleanest place. But, the service was always quick, efficient, and homey. The chopped pork can’t be beat(I think it’s better than Country’s, though that’s good too). Good prices. You walk out of the place smelling like smoke(the good, woody kind, not the bad, cigarette kind). I think that’s a good sign. I now live in Atlanta and am trying to find an excuse to get back down to Columbus for Mike and Ed’s. Really…

The problem I have with this restaurant is not the food — that was fine — the glaring problem with this restaurant is the place itself. First of all, I should love a place with atmosphere like this! Nice and homey, feels like the south, as if you were on a barn. The problem lies therein; it feels like you’re in a barn. Not all that clean, more than one fly flying about the place, dimly lit, booth seats with gaping holes, the floor was sticky, our table wasn’t cleaned where we sat — it was a mess, literally. It’s a big turn-off also when a fly goes into a person’s hair, supposedly dies, then when brushed out falls into a small plate of baked beans. Sound disgusting? Well, this actually happened to my girlfriend while we were there for dinner tonight. Whether it was her fault for the fly falling into her food or not, that is simply unacceptable sanitation. The food, as I said earlier, was not bad at all. It was a small amount, but it matched the cheap price which is welcome in today’s market. The ribs were pretty good, the shredded pork was alright, and the sides were pretty meh also. The main problem I had with the food was that for their«texas toast» or whatever it was, it was literally white bread slices out of the bag. That’s no exaggeration, because I saw them pull it out. I admire the place’s workers, though. There were only two while we were there: the waitress who was quick on service, and the one chef who was quick to put out the food. I’m not sure if there are more people normally when the restaurant is more full, but the two working there were fine. Unfortunately, another problem that brings this place down is the fact that there’s Country’s barbecue, which is the best in Columbus if not best in the whole state. Stiff competition to be sure, but their flavors certainly are better. Overall, I’d say this place is not all that bad, but it does indeed have sanitation issues, and the competition is enough to put this one down pretty low on the list for me.

Authentic southern BBQ. Great Ribs. BBQ Beans are a winner. Some of the sides seem like they’re not homemade but they’re still ok. The atmosphere is very laid back and the customers are regulars. Expect the staff to get to know you and call you«honey» and«sugar». That type of thing. The new location on Warm Springs road is a bit more modern. But I usually order to-go from there because the smoke from the cooker seems to permeate into the dining area.

Staff wasnt very friendly. We were there from 12 noon until like 1:30 enjoying lunch and chit chatting and our waitress started cleaning up around us and staring at us like she wanted us to leave. There were two other people in the restaraunt. It wasnt busy at all. Price was nice. Thats why I gave the place one star.

Stay away !!! The staff is not so friendly and the food is bland. Like eating at public school. In fact there are two of these(the other is any Phenix City) and they are both identical. I have tried on multiple occasions to get differant meals and they all come out bland. I truly think the staff is trained to ignore customers so they will pay and leave.
