I am in town from California for a wedding and stopped in for a last minute blowout and I am so glad I did! Clean & friendly salon and fairly priced. James did my blowout and I absolutely love it. Due to my long, thick hair a lot of stylists have a hard time creating volume but James succeeded. My mom got a blowout with Mackenzie and her hair looks great as well. I highly recommend this salon!

Just had the most awesome experience with Marc at Jacob Neal. I felt like I was visiting with an old friend, and it was my very first visit! He truly listened and understood what I was saying when describing my coiffure concerns. I am new to the area and he took a genuine interest in suggesting things to do around town, which was a total bonus. All of this and I left looking and feeling like an artist transformed my previously messed up do! The atmosphere is upscale yet immediately comfortable. I feel truly lucky to have found my go-​to stylist/​salon on the first try! Worth every penny.

BEWARE. I paid $ 400 plus, including tip, for what Jacob Neal salon used to call a «keratin treatment», but is now referred to as a «brazilian blowout». When I asked what the difference was, the scheduling person told me «brazilian blowout» is just the like as the «keratin treatment», which lasts 2 – 4 months. Only 4 weeks later I found myself with frizzy hair. I called and asked the salon to make things right: at this point they changed their tune about what I could expect from the brazilian blowout, NOW saying it lasts for 6 – 8 weeks.
The only fix they offered is if I *come back* for another treatment at half off, which is still too expensive.
Bottom line: 1) they are hyper-​expensive and 2) they misrepresent.

The old adage «you get what you pay for» is very applicable for this salon! Pricey? Yes, but worth every penny. Since moving to Columbus, I’ve tried a few salons which were lovely, but this salon is the one I keep returning to. Stephanie is my principal stylist, and I completely adore her! She gets my cut & color correct every time and in fact exceeds my expectations! When she’s done, I look in the mirror and can’t believe that I actually look like that!
I can’t rave enough about Stephanie, she truly listens to what I’m asking for and then delivers. She’s also super fun, and you feel like you’re having brunch with your BFF. She always accommodates my appointment needs, which is a plus since my work hours can be crazy. I’ve also tried Garrett, and he is insanely talented too. The rest of the staff is warm and friendly, including Jacob himself.
JNS uses Kerastase products primarily, although they just added Shu Uemura products. Again, both pricey, but keeps my hair in tip top condition. I love that they don’t push product on you! They have great gifts too when you purchase products, last year I got a Longchamp travel bag!
The front desk staff is highly professional, and genuinely welcome you. JNS also serves a fabulous rose in a beautiful Reidel stemless wine glass.
Bottom line: if you’re looking for a top notch, gets it right every single time salon salon in Columbus, this is your place!

I love indulging in a great salon experience and Jacob Neal Salon is the perfect place! I got a cut and color yesterday with Stephanie and she did a fabulous job. Not only is she an top-​notch stylist but she is so friendly and fun to talk to while I’m enjoying my girly salon time. She also gave me an awesome blowout and even taught me a few tricks to do at home to make my hair more bouncy and full of volume. Jacob Neal Salon is totally worth the price tag but don’t forget to bring cash for the tip!

So first, I’ll be honest and say that it has been awhile since I’ve been here.
I got an appointment with the girl that had cut my hair previously to do a cut and a dye. I have light brown hair and she was just going to a darker brown. After applying the dye, she leaves me in the wash bin for at least a half hour. I was almost in tears because it was the most uncomfortable experience I’ve ever had. After nearly crying and having other hair stylists stare at me as they just walked by me, she finishes my hair and then I go out to pay.
When I looked in the mirror there was dye ALL over me. I’m glad that I didn’t care much for the shirt I was wearing but really? There were giant black stains all over my back. On top of that, the price wasn’t what they had told me.

Had a great experience at Jacob Neal! I got highlights from Lindsey and a cut from Mark. Loved them both! The highlights were the exact color I was looking for. I appreciate how Mark listened to what I wanted out of a haircut (to make my hair seem a little thicker)…
Con — the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that it’s somewhat pricey ($ 80 haircut $ 175 highlight), but after being to A LOT of Columbus hair salons and having some bad experiences, I think it’s worth it.

I won a makeover experience at Jacob Neal salon and enjoyed every moment of it! Not only was I pampered nicely but the service was extraordinary. They paid attention to my hair and really made an amazing transformation from how I looked before. I was even complimented for looking like Sarah Jessica Parker by the time I was done.:)

I came to the salon as I purchased a director stylist cut from Groupon. I am super picky about my hair and have had a hard time finding a stylist. I believe it was Marc who cut my hair. He did a good job. My hair was a hot mess prior. I really enjoyed talking to Marc and I usually don’t chat away while getting my hair done. He was funny and super sweet. What I liked the most was the baddest blow out I have ever received! I felt like and looked like a million bucks when I left and the next day! Oh, and did I mention that he is easy on the eyes ;)

Paid $ 65 + tip for a haircut that was in no way extraordinary. Standard positive salon experience, but I expect to be wowed when a simple haircut costs that much.
You can purchase Kerastase products at the salon, which is an excellent line.
Conveniently located on High Street in the Short North. If you drive, bring cards or cash for the metered spaces.

Absolutely horrible experience. Disappointed. Don’t trust the good reviews; trust the bad. Very unprofessional, overrated and waay overpriced. Will NOT come back.

Jacob has been my hairstylist for many years now. I move around the country due to my work, but I always come back to Jacob Neal Salon to get my hair taken care of. Wouldn’t trust anyone more than Jacob. Thank you for always tremendous work!

My girlfriend and I just got our haircuts this week. what an amazing experience… Jacob is a true master at his craft and he did an awesome job on my girl… her cut is sexy and stylish and the coloring is fantastic… she looks and feels like a movie star and I think that its her best haircut yet. forever greatful to you Jacob.

Awesome! I went for the first time a few weeks ago. Garrett cut my hair and did a FABULOUS job… not to mention he was a blast. It’s definitely on the pricey side, but I had too many bad experiences at various Aveda training salons, so it’s definitely worth the splurge. I’m definitely going back!

Yep, it’s literally as good as it gets. Great for men too. Splurge for the Senior or Master level stylist; it’s worth it.
I’m a guy with long hair, and I had my hair cut at Jacob Neal. It was awesome! Very professional atmosphere and staff. The place is cool looking, and set up well, with lots of light.
I am a tough customer when it comes to getting a hair cut. Rarely do I like what I get. But I loved my cut. The stylist (a master level guy) was excellent, and really listened to what I wanted. He had no problems taking as long as was needed to get exactly what worked best for me, and understood that I didn’t want to put in a ton of effort later.

Yesterday was my first time at Jacob Neal. I had a great experience and a great cut by Kristen. She was super helpful and I’m very happy with my new style. As far as price goes I have been in LA for the past two years… this is way cheaper than getting a great cut out there… so suck it up, it’s cheap to live in cbus, you might as well rock a great haircut from Jacob Neal.

I’ve been a long Jacob Neal costumer. And over the years, the staff keeps on changing. The used to be in a larger salon downtown, it was 3 – 4 times as large as the small short north place they have now. The downtown place was next to Dirty Frank’s which is really good. You can get a hot dog after a haircut. Now back to the salon itself. I would give the the salon a 5 if not for a cut 3 months ago. 3 months ago, i made an appointment with a junior stylist as my usual senior stylist has left the place (as i mentioned). Her name was Megan. For the first time in Jacob Neal, Megan did not ask what i wanted and just started to cut my hair regardless. I gave her a chance, i just thought she must really know what she was doing. The hair came out awful. It was really short and it does not have any styling.
I came back to Jacob Neal yesterday and had a cut with Paxton. He was wonderful. He asked what i wanted, i explained what are my concerns and he cuts it beautifully. I’m just a regular guy who wants a regular hair that is not too short and i don’t want my side to stick out. I am as simple as that. And i’m amazed that a lot of salons (especially in Columbus) can not really cater my needs.
In conclusion, Jacob Neal usually trained their team well. But i would suggest getting a cut from a SENIOR stylist. Paxton is recommended.
And one more thing, be sure to bring cash for tip. You can’t put in in your card.

Getting my haircut at JN was a decent experience but it didnt leave me begging to come back. Here are the things that turned me off:
–When making my first appointment, they insisted I give them my credit card number for their no call, no show policy in which they charge 100% of the service cost. I even had to call back to give them my card number otherwise they would erase the appointment. I found this policy irritating being a grown woman (who doesn’t practice no call no shows at that) in decent financial standing. In hindsight, I wouldn’t give them my credit card number ever again. Why should I do this when even doctor’s offices don’t ask for a credit card for missed appointments? This is a bad business practice. At the most, I could see them asking for the backup if someone books a three hour, multi-​service appointment… not a 45 min, $ 50 haircut.
— While I was getting my haircut, one of the other stylists was leaning against the wall watching. (I could describe her but I don’t think that’s appropriate.) Well how would you feel if you were getting your haircut with someone new and a stylist was in the background making a strange face. That’s exactly what happened with me– I could see her reaction in the mirror. Made me wonder if my stylist was cutting my hair wrong…
My haircut was nice but it was a little off from what I asked for. The stylist did a really good job at layering. I take some of the blame though because I did not bring in a photo.
I think if this salon is going for a high-​end feel, they need to tweak some things ASAP because I certainly did not feel the high end vibe.
Parking is tricky as always in the short north, arrive at least 10 minutes ahead to give yourself plenty of time…

After my recent appointment at Jacob Neal Salon, I’m convinced that money spent on a great haircut is a necessary indulgence. I’ve never been a Supercuts person myself, I’ve always traveled safely in the middle of the road. Relating my recent haircut at Jacob Neal to a purchase of a middle of the road camera I bought a few years back, I wish I would have purchased a high end camera. An appointment at Jacob Neal is a high end purchase, and it stands up better over time.
The Jacob Neal Salon is located in the Short North and is framed nicely with white wooden windows, billowy white curtains and artfully shaped topiary. Yes, this place is rich, classy and tasteful. The elegance from the outside is mirrored on the inside as well. Nothing is over the top, and I felt comfortable inside.
My stylist was Drew, and we talked at length before my appointment regarding my needs. He understood the difficulty dealing with long wavy hair, and provided me with a cut that I could wear straight or wavy depending on my mood. Drew compared my hair to «a forest of saplings» which I thought was very fitting and funny. I’ve always found it difficult to converse with hairstylists, but Drew was easy going and made me feel relaxed. He suggested lightening up my look a little, and I was apprehensive at first, but gave him creative control. The result was something very natural that I’m very pleased with.
The real personal touch came when Drew taught me how to keep my new haircut looking good after my visit. He gave me tips on blow drying, applications of conditioner, and how to keep volume in my hair even as I sleep. I generally need all the help I can get in the beauty department.
I personally feel that a trip to Jacob Neal Salon is really worth the price tag. It’s upscale, but not pretentious. And that’s something I can really appreciate.

I am going to be making a mandatory indulgence to get my hair styled at Jacob Neal at least twice a year. The price for a men’s cut starts at $ 25, which I got since I am usually on the conservative side.
Let me say I normally am just a quick-​clip kind of guy, going to best (or worst) cuts and even on occasion taking the wahl clipper to my own head for a quick buzz. I normally spend $ 15 for a haircut.
The $ 10 difference is like comparing decaf to regular. My session with my stylist James started with a 10 minute scalp massage under hot water and aromatic hair conditioners. This was followed by a completely hand cut masterpiece of a style. The technique was amazing, it simply is probably the best haircut I’ve ever received. Cleanup was very thorough, an additional rinse with the hot water, then back in the chair for a styling with a very light product. James was a pleasure to talk to, and was incredibly focused on his work as well.
My only beef with JN is their gratuity policy, I wanted to add a gratuity but couldn’t do that on credit card, they informed me gratuities had to be made out by check or cash. This will require me to mail in a check to James, when I would have liked to take care of it at that time.
Otherwise, pound for pound this is tops in downtown!
