When they needed help, they got bailed out, when the customer needs help, they continue to stomp them down.
Recently tried to catch up and get my mortgage current on one of my houses, offered to pay the full amount due, but I wanted to dispute the late charges and see if I could get them waived. The two late charges totaled to 2.3% of the total amount. 2.3% folks — they would not budge. They would not negotiate, so I did not make the payment. So please don’t buy any of this mortgage assistance crap, they do not care about your circumstances or any of your other creditors. All they care about is their bottom line. They had no problem taking a government hand-​out (tax-​payer money), but they will do nothing to help the consumer. They’d rather you not make a payment of your full principal, interest and escrow, then to get you caught up. They’d rather try to foreclose to take your property, at least in my case since the total amount due on the mortgage is a lot less than what the market value is. I wonder if they would feel the same way if the mortgage balance was higher than the market value — I think we all know the answer to that.
And don’t try making a partial payment. They’ll take your money, collect interest on it and collect further interest on your outstanding debt that should be net of your partial payment. They will place the money in an account called «unapplied funds». What’s the matter Chase? One of the biggest banks in the world and you can’t figure out how to allocate the partial (83% of the total payment) payment to the three components. Yet another way to collect from the customer. Question them on it, they will admit to doing all of it. You have to say it a few times because they’re not grabbing the top of the class to take these calls, but once you explain everything to them they will repeat their process right back to you.
And when you miss a payment they send someone to inspect the premises on your dime. When I asked why I wasn’t notified, I was told it was in the mortgage agreement. Thanks for being dicks, Chase.
