Had I written this review after having my first two wisdom teeth removed, I’d be leaving a five star review. However, after an incident after having the second two out, the star rating plummets a bit. The first experience went off without a hitch. I’m a bit proud, so I have to mention that I had the surgery done without being put under to a) save some money b) so I didn’t need anyone to pick me up at 9am and c) cuz I’m a badass. I told the doctor that I wasn’t very sensitive to the local anesthetization, and had regularly felt everything during fillings in the past. I didn’t want that to be the case this time, so I asked for a little extra juice(okay, I’m not THAT much of a badass). He obliged. Ten minutes, some grotesque slicing, hammering and sawing later, and my two left wisdom teeth were sitting on a tray — one whole, one in pieces. They gave me some instructions, some prescriptions, and some gauze and sent me on my way. When I went back for the other two, I reminded him about the need for extra numbing and asked if I’d be able to listen to music on my phone during the procedure since the horrendous sounds were the worst part of the first experience. I also asked if I could keep the teeth since I’m a bit of a sicko… He said no problem on all counts. This time, however, the extraction did NOT go off without a hitch. Usually, the upper wisdom teeth are a breeze to remove. One slice, one jerk, and the tooth is out. The first one took all of 15 seconds. It’s the bottom one that is a pain. Unfortunately, my upper on the right side turned out to be fused to my jawbone. No bueno, kiddos, no fucking bueno. Dude spent 10 – 15 minutes literally hammering at the tooth. Literally. With a hammer. Slicing, twisting, wrenching… doing things to my jaw I never imagined necessary, let alone wanted to witness. He told me «this is the sort of thing you hope doesn’t happen to a lucid patient.» The bottom wasn’t near as big of an issue, but being the bottom, it still took close to ten minutes to get it out. I was worried about the condition of the teeth due to the difficulties with the extraction, but one of them was salvageable. Dr. Anderson said, «after that, you deserve this tooth.» Same spiel as before, and I was on my way once again. The incident alluded to at the outset occurred some days later, when I had what I believe was an allergic reaction to one of the medicines. I called to try to get more, alternative option. He was very rude and short, and essentially told me to cease use and take fucking tylenol. Uh, hello, do you recall how you had to physically saw and hammer my tooth loose from my jawbone? I’d like to continue using something a little more potent than aspirin, thanks. You did this to your review, not me; you were in the clear until you decided to assume that tattoos = junkie.
