History
Established in 1812.
Trinity Cathedral is a historic site on four acres in downtown Columbia. The property includes the church building, Sunday School building, two chapels, parish offices, the Bishop’s diocesan house, and a graveyard.
An active parish with 3,600 members, Trinity was founded in 1812, and originally built as a wooden church located where the graveyard lies. The cornerstone for the Cathedral was laid in 1845 by architect E.B. White. Trinity was the first example of Ecclesiastical Gothic architecture in the South, and its façade was inspired by Yorkminster in England.
Come visit and witness the beauty of Trinity. Tour the church and the graveyard, which together reflect the history of this nation, the state of South Carolina, and city of Columbia.
