Tocar Spa was established to fill the gap between general relaxation through massage and education of clients. Our primary goal is the education of our clients in the area of preventative health and wellness.

Meet the Business Owner

Stephen C.

Business Owner

Stephen concentrates his practice on athletic re-​development and recovery massage. He is trained and licensed in both Swedish and Deep Tissue massage. His experience ranges from work with Collegiate and high school athletic teams to day spas. Stephen’s formal training was conducted at the Potomac Massage Training Institute in Washington, DC. His massage incorporates a variety of techniques including: myo-​fascial release and advanced stretching. With an in-​depth understanding of anatomy and structural kinesiology Stephen is able to work muscular issues at the root and not just the surface.

In his previous post he was the Guest Services Manager at a Multi-​National Spa & Salon and was responsible for designing a comprehensive Quality-​of-​Service training program for Guest Service Representatives. In the capacity he also developed a company wide guest incentive based reward program to increase customer retention.

This guy Stephen is some type of massage guru. He’s a real expert with the body. The massage I got felt like a combination of deep tissue, sports, acupressure, and thai in one. It was super. It’s clear he loves what he does. He’s a real specialist, and very professional.
I highly recommend him. I’ll definitely be back.

Stephen is the real deal. He makes you feel comfortable and asks a lot of questions up front in order to give you the best massage possible (areas to focus, avoid, preferences, etc). Best hot stone massage I’ve ever had! I highly recommend Tocar Spa.

I havent had a massage in about a year and a half and this was heaven. Stephen was very welcoming and I had a very calm and serene experience.
Before the massage I filled out a form, front and back. We then went into the room and he discussed what problems I had and what I was looking for out of the massage. Stephen also informed me that he used all natural coconut oil which is also nice.
The massage was BEYOND AWESOME. I was very tight and tense due to an auto injury and I feel so relaxed and loose. Stephen applied just the right amount of pressure and I feel wonderful.
There were no issues redeeming my Unilocal deal. I purchased another gift certificate on the spot after my massage and I cant wait to go back. I know I will be sleeping good tonight.

Like many others, I would have never known about this place if not for Amazon Local. I bought a 90 min massage deal. The massage was easily in the top 5 massages I’ve ever had in my life. If I think about it any longer, I would say closer to top 3. I normally don’t prefer a male therapist, but in this case, Stephen was the best I could have asked for. He uses all natural coconut oil, which is something I liked as well.
I cannot recommend this place enough. I will be going back for sure.

As an esthetician I have worked at the best spas in Montgomery and Howard County. I am used to the spa world and expect only the best. I met Stephen over a year ago and never wanted any other hands massaging me. Even with my hefty discount at the The Pearl and at Aveda Bethesda I within the last year and half have not seen any other therapist in this area. I have traveled and gone to some therapist in Miami, NY, and Vegas and was annoyed I just didn’t wait to get home. Stephen is so talented and God has truly blessed his hands. He does a great consultation, massage as well as he incorporates heat and stretches into them.

I had purchased a Groupon for a hour and a half massage and it was expiring so I had to make an appointment… why let it go to waste or not get the value of the deal? I tried calling and there was no answer but the machine left a detailed message letting the caller know to go on-​line and schedule the appointment. The on-​line scheduling process was pretty simple, the only thing I found difficult was finding an available day to schedule. Tocar Spa was booked up for at least a week, so I scheduled an appointment for a day that I could take a longer lunch.
I am so glad I purchased the Groupon because would have never known about Tocar Spa; I received one of the best massages I’ve had from Stephen. He did such a wonderful job. I had never had a Deep Tissue massage before and Stephen filled me in on the information I needed to know. He asked me questions before and so he could get a feel for what I needed and what type of pressure I could handle. I was very impressed. He even incorporated stretching into the massage which felt amazing. After the massage he showed me a few exercises that really helped me to relax and build strength to areas that needed help.

I love Tocar!!! This is a superb spa with the best masseuse in the area Stephen!!! I have never had a massage so relaxing and attentive. Stephen is very knowledgeable about massages and it shows in his attention to detail while massaging his clients. I highly recommend this spot especially Stephen. I’m a frequent spa visitor and know a gem when I find one. Check Tocar Spa out if you want a highly professional massage. The areas best kept secret for sure!

I went to Tocar for the first time today. I had the best massage I have had in a long time. I scheduled another appointment in six weeks. If the second is as good as the first was, I will be thrilled to join the Touch Club which gives you one massage per month at a discounted rate.
Check out Stephen’s bio online — it is very impressive. After the session, he gave me some stretching exercises to help with the mobility and tension in my back and neck.
I can’t wait for my next appointment.

I can not say enough wonderful things about this spa. I typically get a massage about every other month and recently moved into town from Chicago. I really needed to find a good spa and I found it at Tocar! Stephen is a total professional and has a great staff. He was very thorough and his background in sports massage was a great bonus. The spa atmosphere is calming and very clean.

I regularly receive massages at various places throughout the Baltimore/​DC area and this is the only place that I’ve scheduled a second visit. I prefer light massages but often times when I tell the masseuse that it turns into more of a lotion application session and less of a massage. Stephen provided the perfect combination of pressure and relaxation that had me leaving feeling euphoric.
As previous reviewers have mentioned, Stephen’s customer service is awesome. I arrived close to 30 minutes late for my appointment after getting lost on the way and while most other places may give me attitude and a shorter session, Stephen was very accommodating and still provided the full 60 minutes of massage time. His background in physical therapy became very apparent as he provided suggestions for things to do at home to reduce tension in certain muscle groups and the stretches that were incorporated into the session felt wonderful.
I would absolutely recommend Stephen and Tocar Spa and will definitely return and recommend their services to others I know!

Recently had a massage with Stephen with a groupon I had purchased. Even though his schedule seemed a little busy, he worked with me to find a time that suited me and my friend best.
The massage was excellent (got a deep tissue massage) and Stephen worked both with massage techniques and stretching. I must admit I was a little sore the next day, but I do feel like I got my muscles worked the way they needed to be.
I would definitely recommend Stephen and Tocar Spa.

The Essence of Touch … at its finest
My massage therapist, Stephen, was wonderful. He was professional and highly focused on customer service — providing a great pre-​service consultation and preventative and protective after-​care knowledge. Unlike other massage therapist, Stephen really concentrated on my troubled areas (heavy muscle tension from neck to upper half of back) leaving me totally relaxed for DAYS. I am definitely setting up monthly appointments. Overall I would recommend Tocar Spa to anyone who is interested in a One of a Kind Experience. I can’t wait to book my first spa party with them in August. Wishing continued success to Stephen and the entire staff at Tocar Spa. :-)

I had many massages before finding Stephen in February. Let me say every other massage I ever had can’t even compare. Stephen is excellent. I have very tight muscles from years of sports. I especially have problems with my knees. Stephen has been amazing in helping me to extend my range of motion and flexibility without pain. He’s very attentive and always takes time to make sure that everything has been going well since the last massage session. He’s also very knowledgeable about sports injuries and has provided me with many tips on how to relieve my pain at home in between massages. If your looking for someone who really takes your needs seriously Stephen is definitely your man. It’s clear that he loves his profession and he is always very kind, caring, and professional. Who could ask for anything more!

I’ve started running again after spraining my knee and thought getting massages was beneficial. After meeting with a few masseuses, I found Stephen. I’ve been with him ever since. He’s good at asking the right questions, very knowledgeable about sports and sports injuries. He’s versatile and can adjust to the different requirements I need. For example there are sessions where all I want is a soothing + relaxing massage and then there are sessions I need deep tissue massage to work out sports related kinks. I am so happy to have found Stephen.
