Stoney Creek Hotel and Conference Center

I had wrote the hotel management this email:
I was a guest recently at your establishment, and I thought it would be wise to let you know how my experience was, and yes, this will be a very long run-​on paragraph.
I had a terrible room to start off with, I set a reservation well in advance and I was expecting a bit more than what I had received. I believe it was room 37, in the basement with so little natural light it was depressing, not to mention it was by the hotel laundry, there is a «view» from the window of a very nice beige wall, a water main of some sort, and if one was to strain to the extreme right a view of the pool houses white plastic fence. I was trying to upgrade my room periodically, once I got to the hotel, once I saw the room, and again after I finished the conferences for the day, and was told there was nothing available. It was after midnight when I spoke with Cody (he was very nice, and rectified the situation that he caused) and when I inquired again about a room upgrade and he pulled up my account and stated that my room was not paid for, and then when several of my coworkers had come up to the front desk to see what I was up too, Cody was reading from the screen, greeted my coworkers and then stated (at an embarrassing volume) that my room was not paid for and that I had multiple cards declined multiple times, and that he would need immediate payment and would be unable to upgrade me until I had paid for the room I was currently in. After some back and forth with me showing my banks website showing that the money was in fact paid to the hotel, he gave a bad response of «that’s just a temporary hold and that will fall off your account in 7 – 10 days» luckily I my coworkers chimed in and said, «no, they charged our accounts when we checked in» then my coworkers stated that they need not to hear my business when Cody was not acknowledging my payment. After about 45min of this very stressful situation, and my very deep embarrassment, he apologized and stated «oh your room is paid for! These notes are in backwards order» and he said that he would be happy to upgrade my room for all this hassle free of charge.
I was very happy at this point and if the rest of the staff performed their duties I would not even be writing this email. (I hate complaining and will do my best to not be one of «those» guests)
I adored the new room; it was very, very nice. I did contact the maid service, to let them know that I was out of towels and needed an extra blanket, I was informed that the overnight guests have a different group of maids and that «she» will be by later that day. I had cleaned the bathtub with a couple towels and they were covered in black hair and I left them in the shower (they were STILL in the shower when I went to check out) I was without maid service until Thursday evening, I was completely out of towels and I had all my trashcans full (even the maid service that I did receive neglected the trash, but she was very nice). It was late Thursday night, early Friday morning when I noticed the «last straw» since I was not in my room at a decent hour, and I was diving into bed at 2am every night and I had not received any maid service, when I made my bed (I told the maid I do not need my bed made, its just going to be messed up and it’s a waste of her time) I took all the sheets and blankets off and then I had one sheet that I was putting on, the sheet that ones skin directly touches all through the night, and this one sheet was a little peculiar, it seemed to have something on it, and then I looked closer thinking that I may have spilled something on it (I find eating in bed gross so I was doubtful) and it was red, and it was a very special shade of red since it was BLOOD splatters, like some one had a nose bleed and wiped it on the sheet below the top seam. I was a bit loud when I made this discovery and since I was checking out in a few hours I had figured it would be a waste of my time to complain. I also did a check for bed bugs since the cleanliness of the hotel had come into question (there were none that I could find). I left the gross sheet in the corner of the room for the next few hours. After packing up I segregated the disgusting sheet and brought it with me to the front desk, and presented it discreetly as possible, but then another hotel employee had questions about my visit and I expressed my concerns, much to the dismay of another hotel guest. She did apologize and told me to let the front desk know about this visit and they would assist me, I stated that I doubt that I would ever be staying at a Stoney Creek establishment on my own accord and that I have had better service at a Drury Inn in the Bronx. That was the end of my first stay at the Stoney Creek hotel.

This place is a joke: bedbugs, manager Mike Kelly is a LIAR. I have never in my life dealt with the problems as I have had with this place! They charged my personal credit card for my stay that was booked with company card on reservations and was told that my card would only be used for incidentals. The manager, Mike Kelly then has done nothing but lie to me and treat me like an idiot. They cleaned my co-​workers room while her do not disturb sign was on after 1 day and claims that policy is every other day they have the right to come in your room. Remember, 1 day, not 2! Invasion of privacy! !!!

We stayed here as a friend of mine suggested since he was getting married here. The reservation process was good and easy. The place was easy to find. The lobby was clean and there was fresh coffee out at all times. Getting the room was quick and easy.
The room was clean. The beds were comfortable.
The event, the wedding, went off well. The venue worked out great for the wedding and the reception.
Why the low number of stars?
One, the breakfast. Unless you are addicted to carbs there really wasn’t a lot of choice. Two, when we went to sit out on the patio to enjoy the day and have a cup of coffee we encountered smokers. No big deal but they were smoking right next to the no smoking sign. They were smoking in the no smoking area (there was a designated spot elsewhere). Since I figured it was a hotel issue I would bring it up to the front desk.
Apparently the manager is the only one who can say anything and they were away for moment. No big deal, still wanted to finish our coffee. More smokers joined them. We left. Headed to the room and gathered our stuff to check out.
Upon check out was asked if everything was OK. It was until that morning. Apparently the manager, who was checking us out, wasn’t told about my comment. AND when we walked out the hotel we had to walk by more smokers in the no smoking area. ugh.

No Bueno. Hotel felt dirty and lacked amenities. Breakfast was subpar. There are other options in the area.

Upon parking at night it provided a safe feeling with bright lights and close parking. Upon entry the foyer was clean, open, and gave kids many things to look at while checking in. The halls and elevators were warmer than other areas, not sure if this was on purpose but I found it welcoming toasty when bringing luggage in during winter time. Room was clean and comfy. We were on top floor that had great window that oversees town, yet it’s mostly street view so not that spectacular. Teens went for breakfast in morning and came back saying they needed money to eat so we opted to eat elsewhere. Despite that, we all enjoyed our stay and would stay here if passing through again.

Great place, easy to find. They are very pet friendly as well. Clean, quiet rooms. The staff were very courteous and friendly. Our son has moved to Columbia and we will be staying there again!

We’re leaving, a few hours after check in — our room has BEDBUGS!!!
When I complained to the front desk, the maintenance manager, Josh, came up to the room and made me PROVE it to them, before. The General Manager, Michael Kelly, attempted to first ignore me, and then patronize me, until I was forced to be loud and obvious about the bugs.
Michael Kelly did not apologize to me, despite my request for an apology. I have 17 bedbug bites, from a 1 hour nap.

Very lacking breakfast but very dog friendly.

I had never stayed at a Stoney Creek Inn and I have been missing out!!! What a nice, clean, enjoyable place to stay. Our room was decorated to look like a cabin in the woods. There was a huge fireplace in the lobby and lots of people congregate and visit in that area and look through the open gift shop which is fully stocked with Mizzou (University of Mo) apparel at good prices. The front desk staff went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed. Olivia at the front desk was delightful, courteous and informative. Shay was also a real sweetheart. I don’t know why I didn’t know about Stoney Creek before! If you want a nice get-​a-​way, forget the lake, visit Stoney Creek for a family friendly event, couples retreat or girls night out. Love it!

What a gem! This place is well maintained, immaculate, and charming. Great value and my kids had a blast in the pool, foyer, and room. At the price they charge, it’s a wonder they make any money. I was amazed that inside, outside, and everything in between looked new and the attention to detail showed that the owners take pride in their hotel. Staff was cheerful and helpful and seemed to enjoy their jobs. To be sure, my best experience at a hotel, ever.
Will make this a regular stop on cross-​country trips.

As a Jayhawk fan, it was difficult for me to even visit Columbia let alone stay overnight, but Stoney Creek Inn made my stay worthwhile. We were in town for a wedding and I was pleasantly surprised by the choice of accommodations. This place isn’t your regular hotel. It feels more like a cabin lodge getaway with an earthy décor.
The bed was comfy and the air conditioning was working perfectly which was important since outside was thick with heat and humidity. Our room had a mini fridge and coffee pot and plenty of space to put our things. We also received plenty of bathroom towels and enjoyed the green tea toiletries. The tub did have a pretty high step in (there was a sign notifying me) so be extra careful if yours has one too.
As far as the rest of the inn, it’s a great place for a wedding reception. The area we were in had a bar and couches that led into a room perfect for setting up a dinner buffet which led into a larger ballroom decorated for eating and dancing. This setup is fantastic for events so that people can mingle at several areas and not feel huddled in one smaller space. I don’t know if the inn catered the food or it was brought in, but it was delicious so if they did — kudos.
The conference center made it convenient to print off boarding passes and there is plenty of parking in the lot. I don’t know the area well at all but it was very close to the church the wedding was held at and also close to MU (booooo!) campus.
The place exceeded my expectations and allowed us to have a very pleasant stay and fun weekend.

I was happy here.
Negatives:
— My husband said the breakfast wasn’t very good. We’ve stayed in quite a few hotels/​motels lately with free breakfast and this was his least favorite.
— The hallways were REALLY warm. They either don’t have AC or it wasn’t working.
Positives:
— The beds were comfy with great pillows.
— The tub was nice, it felt a little bigger than your standard tub but I can’t be positive.
— The flat screen was a nice addition.
— The front desk lady was very friendly and helpful.
— The vending machine takes CREDIT CARDS. So helpful when all I wanted was water and all I had was a CC. (Columbia’s tap water is… not my favorite)
Didn’t use the pool area, didn’t even go down there, but hope to be back sometime soon.

Nice big, clean room with the usual amenities. Friendly staff; fast wi-​fi. Free hot breakfast — cheese omelette was pretty tasty; biscuits & gravy not so much. Would stay there again.

I’m glad I stayed here but couldn’t go to 5 stars.
Had a third floor room with a vaulted ceiling which made the room nice and big. The hotel has the Northwoods feel which gives it a bit more charm than the average generic hotel.
Staff are very friendly! Breakfast is included, nothing fancy, but the coffee is tasty. Served in a cute breakfast room.
Lastly it is close to Mizzou — so it works well if you are visiting.

It had a great big room with bunk beds so it was a great place for children. Very clean and a great indoor/​outdoor pool. It was a fun atmosphere for the kids and was built like a log lodge.

3* «take me home for $ 20» raccoon
— Location– 4* good– close to U. Missouri, plenty of parking
— Feel– 3* like a mountain lodge– with wood /​antler chandeliers, lots of brown /​wood, musty feel
— Front desk — 3* front desk is also the bar– was confused– but as long as you know. Check– in, then ask for a beer
— Conference rooms — 4* several large /​small conference rooms with lots of people in suits. They did not look very excited though.
— staff– 4* super friendly, quick, pleasant
— Room– 3*as soon as I walked in, there was a stuffed raccoon on the corner of the bed facing the door. Spooky! haha– he has a label on «take me home for 20 $». harhar. me think not! But the room is good size, clean, with TV, iron + iron board, comfortable bathroom, shampoo + lotion + soap. Coffee machine + microwave
— price 2* $$$ overpriced
— lots of groups, events, teams, conferences takes place.
— heard great stuff about breakfast but didn’t get to try!

Rustic hotel with a family fishing vacation feel. Seems like its been here awhile. Time for an update on some of the furnishings bit overall a nice hotel. I attended a conference here and they seemed to handle our group (250+) well. Food was decent but not much to choose from. Friendly service and staff people who take pride in their establishment.
