SpringHill Suites Columbia Downtown/The Vista

Gorgeous resort with great areas. Valet car parking is definitely the only kind of car parking which is readily available plus they demand $ 16.00 for each evening (suggestion not provided). Theater has really shabby decoration and unkept restrooms however it provided us some thing to achieve that evening. Purchased a consume from space services. These were really quick as well as the consume was great. The 2 princess-​size mattresses had been really comfy. Great look at the town from your windowpane.

This hotel was wonderful. The rooms were clean and comfy. I also enjoyed the proximity of the hotel to everything else in Columbia. The breakfast was also quite good. The only major downside was the pool… It was inside, situated on the side of the building that never received any sun and was freezing. It was uncomfortably cold… It took me 15 – 20 minutes to get used to the cold water. After that, I wasn’t surprised that no one ever used the pool. It was almost torturous. Hope the management wakes up and makes the pool a bit friendlier to customers

Awesome Property!!! The entire property is clean, well kept and maintained. Staff is kind and courteous. Its an experience in itself. The Spring hill is close to downtown but not to close to the college … meaning its quiet. Beautiful industrial feel. Room is spotless. The design of this hotel is fabulous!

We stayed one night. The hotel is very clean and well appointed. Staff are friendly and go out of there way to make sure all guests are greeted.
The room we had was on the fourth floor and was very quite and comfortable. Unfortunately, the havc unit is a little loud, but provided adequate cooling. The king bed is reasonably comfortable for a spring mattress.
The shower and sink are separate from the water closet, which is nice. The water pressure is low making it difficult to rinse shampoo from hair.
This seems to be about the best hotel option in Sumter

This place is the bees knees! We stayed at an atrocious Days Inn the night before coming here. Not only was the price better than Days Inn but just walking in you get a beautiful modern and artistic lobby with a smiling front desk staff. The location is PERFECT. We walked out and immediately saw the city skyline, a grocery store, a few bars, and a row of specialty shops. We walked around for an hour and came back with specialty cupcakes, local produce, and a few grocery items. That night we ate at a wonderful southern style restaurant and bar hopped in the area. We felt safe walking around and really welcomed back at the hotel. Our room was exceptionally clean and looks recently renovated! I’ll definitely stay here again when visiting Columbia.

Nice property! Perfect location! Right next to my favorite Ale House Bar with the rooftop live music! The big 2 bedroom suits have a living room area with pullout couch too. Great for families trying a not to splurge for multiple rooms. Cheers!

I’m trying to figure out how to be fair in this review.
We usually stay in Hyatts & when one is not available we opt for Marriot properties. We are points people, travel frequently so it makes the most sense.
This property was very clean and well kept however. when we checked in the staff was flat out rude. The young lady at the desk thought my credit cards were being denied and instead of trying a different terminal, she basically decided to ignore me while I called my bank (right all of my cards aren’t working!?). Once I told her that they are all fine she was rude and said «clearly not» I had her associate try on another terminal, that they had switched to and sure enough everything worked. Computer glitch handled poorly.
That night in our room we decided to make coffee since we had brought our dessert back with us to the hotel. My significant other was weirded out by the taste (but has nose issues so couldn’t smell it), I smelt it and instantly took it from him, my eyes watering from a chemical smell. I took it downstairs to the front desk and was told no manager was available. I told her he had drank half of the cup and to smell it. She instantly pushed it away and grabbed her eyes, the chemical smell was so strong sniffing it in, made her eyes water. The next employee that came over explained that they were «sanitizing» with chemicals because of «fluids and Ebola»
I explained to them that they still need to use food safe chemicals, and rinse very well.
I’m floored that they would use chemicals and that he ingested some and was later sick, and that they seemed annoyed that we brought it to their attention.

Very nice, new and comfortable. Pleasant staff. Great location right near the Vista downtown Columbia. Within walking distance to restaurants and some shops. They have a full service bar with light snacks and the breakfast was adequate and fresh.

Very clean (and I am obsessive about that). Cool, modern décor. Nice artwork. Huge room. Friendly staff (especially the bartender). Pool was small but nice and clean. Breakfast was a little overcrowded and understocked. But overall, above average stay.

I’d give them one more try to get it right. I checked in at 11pm on a Monday. Check in was quick and the night staff clerk was the best employee I met. The lobby and entrance are a but grander than any other Springhill I’ve seen.
The room was clean and standard for this brand. It had the nice split bathroom. My only issues for this room were that there wasn’t a channel guide anywhere and the AC needs a deflector. I had to remove the bench and lean the iron boards against the curtain to make sure the chill came in. After my remodel it cooled in about fifteen minutes.
The parking lot was pretty full and it’s a long walk at night. Unload your bags in the front drive. There was a homeless guy sleeping on the bench next to the hotel exit on Lady and Huger.
The next morning at breakfast the sausage links were rock hard. I asked the staffer and was ignored. I found their attempt at charcuterie was really good. It was untouched so I ate most of it. I found the hotel on Unilocal that morning and try to use their check in coupon for a free beverage. The manager was pretty adamant that it’s only for use at the bar at night which was closed well before my arrival at 11pm. That interaction REALLY rubbed me the wrong way. She was a blonde female in business casual dress.
I’d give them one more try if in the area and needed to be downtown. The AC issues, view of a hobo, and the manager took away the star.

The hotel has a lot of good features with a few bad points.
Pros — Great location, within walking distance to restaurants, bars, EdVenture science museum, and the South Carolina State Museum.
Excellent complimentary breakfast with waffles, eggs, sausage, pastries, fruit, coffee, cereal, etc.
Indoor pool, spacious rooms, fitness room, business office with a few computers, free wi-​fi.
Cons — mattress on fold out couch was awful. You could feel every wire in the springs.
Loud traffic right outside the window. The rooms along the back of the hotel face Huger Street, a major thoroughfare (three lanes in each direction). The sound insulation is very poor and you can hear that traffic very easily, especially when the fan on the air conditioner is off. If you can get a room in the front of the building, get it! Rooms in the front face the parking lot which I imagine is a lot quieter than Huger Street.
The water in the pool is too cold. This may sound like a minor complaint but a pool is nearly useless if my son is shivering after ten minutes in the water.

Nice hotel! Beautifully decorated… over the past week we have stayed at 3 different Marriott locations in 3 different states and this one has been the best so far! Unilocal check-​in even gave us a complimentary free drink at the bar… it’s good to see that this location is up-​to-​date with some of the social media.
Room was very nice… parking was free and easily accessible… close to restaurants and bars… complimentary breakfast… nice fitness room.

Nice hotel. I think this a new hotel. The room was nicely decorated and spacious enough for 3 adults. Free parking, drinks downstairs from 5 – 11, microwave and fridge in room. It was perfect for our stay.
Plenty of places to eat within walking distance AND the local bars made strong drinks. If I am ever back in Columbia I would def stay her again!

The more Springhill Suites I stay at the more impressed I am. Staff is always helpful and friendly, the rooms are always well appointed and clean, check-​in is always a breeze – in short, I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels costing 3 times as much per night that haven’t been this enjoyable.
(And having a bar in the hotel in the middle of the bible belt is a much welcomed amenity.)

Clean, convenient hotel for downtown restaurants and for visiting USC. Friendly staff and a decent free breakfast buffet. Spacious bedroom with seperate shower and toilet areas. Free parking as well.
Check in with Unilocal and get a free beverage!

I have stayed here several times since it opened. It is a great hotel. The service is fantastic. The bar also offers a check-​in deal. The Continental breakfast is free and offers a wide variety of choices. The rooms are nicely decorated in a contemporary Art Deco style and well maintained. Trustus Theatre is next door and the hotel is within walking distance to the Vista, which is loaded with great restaurants and venues. Each room has its own fridge, and the Publix next door offers easy access to stock up on items for the fridge. There is an indoor pool that can sometimes be too cold. Just ask the manager to turn up the heat if you want to use it. The only drawback is the layout of the bathroom. I would not recommend sharing a room with a colleague or someone you’re not in a intimate relationship with. The bathroom doors are transparent and do not lock.

Totally adequate near-​the-​Vista, near-​downtown hotel experience in Columbia, SC. It’s new, quite clean, reasonably priced, and offer spacious rooms.
There’s plenty of parking, the staff was courteous, and the breakfast looked like it had plenty of selections. There’s even a little bar in the lobby open til 11 or 12.
Front desk folks were responsive when my teensy coffee pot failed to brew and I had a new one in moments.
All in all an above average stay in a great location.
PS — watch for the neat sliding door entrances to the separated toilet room and shower room!

Brand new hotel! Been open just a week. I’m a frequent traveler and frequent Marriott chain stayer. Made Platinum already this year.
Room: Modern and innovative. Separate toilet and shower area a plus (well if more than one person staying.) Large screen flat screens seems to be becoming standard in Marriotts so that’s no different than the Courtyard down the street.
There aren’t as many drawers as a Courtyard but there is a neat bench area near the window. I would consider this a small minus.
The bed is comfy, pretty standard for the brand. Bonus, alarm clock has iPod/​iPhone control. (iPhone will complain about the accessory but ignore the message. It works fine.)
The pass through tempered glass window separating the desk and couch area from the bed is neat and I guess would be cool if one wanted to stay up later and work while the other guest sleeps. The desk is a bit small. I think I’ve gotten used to the large movable desks at Courtyards.
In room microwave a plus.
Facilities: Don’t plan on using the pool but there is one. Fitness room is adequate but a bit small. Two treadmills, two elipticals, and up to 50 lbs dumbbell pairs. The Courtyard down the street has a nautilus machine as well as dumbbells. I’ve made the suggestion they get rubber mats/​flooring or the linoleum in there won’t last 6 months. Even with moderate use, weights will end up banging on the floor.
Breakfast. Haven’t had it yet. Don’t know if I will. Rarely have hotel breakfasts anyway, so I couldn’t be a good judge.
Location. Pretty prime location. In the Vista, one of Columbia’s bustling areas full of restaurants. Walking distance from the majority of these. Also a Publix (grocery) directly across the street. SC State House also walkable unless the humidity gets too oppressive.
