Scoopy Doo Gelato Shop

These folks rock! In my earlier post I stated how much we enjoy the place but had some less than stellar product from the freezer. Well the owner emailed me promptly to apologize and offered to make it right. Well yesterday I contacted him to let say we would be in and he hooked us up.
Moral of the story: everyone has an off day. These guys handle it like pros. Great people and a great product. Customers for life!

If you’re craving something fast and sweet, this is the place to go. On my search for non dairy deserts, I was lead to this small gelato shop that’s connected to Drip. Every time I come here (which I has now become an embarrassing amount) I’m greeted by staff who are smiling and incredible knowledgable about their options. They aim to be as local and natural as possible which makes it really easy to to justify my gluttonous sweet tooth. Oh and did I mention that they have some 21+ flavors? They aim to have different favors every week and always have gluten free and vegan options. Take some time, op for the bowl, and slip into gelato goodness.

I had their White Russian and chocolate gelato mixed together! Absolutely delicious and it was a heaping portion. Great customer service, and depending on what portion size you get, it comes in a glass bowl. It’s right next to Drip, which is convenient if you want a small meal before or after your gelato.
A plus– you can get gelato in a little pint size container to go!

Just went in tonight for some celebratory gelato. The staff was super nice and knowledgeable. We got some gelato to eat there and some to take home. The cracker jack flavor tastes like childhood in a cup. The raspberry ginger in amazing too. We found our new favorite ice cream shop!

Let me first start by saying that the product is of five star quality. The ice cream is rich, flavorful, fresh and just the right temperature. The waffle cones are crisp, made fresh and seasoned well. It’s also nice that they have an alcohol option almost always; this time it was an orange Captain Morgan’s sorbet.
For being in a college town, though, it is a bit pricey for what you get. Having worked in an ice cream shop I get that it’s expensive but over $ 10 for two smalls is hard to do for many students and families when a half gallon at the grocery store is $ 3-​$ 4 (RIP Cold Stone Creameries all over the country.)
My first trip there I was helped by two very energetic and friendly employees and my second time I was helped by someone with a lot less umph — perhaps my first experience soured this one more than it’s worth– he wasn’t bad but he was spectacularly morning barista-​like; I think we all know that connotation. By comparison my second visit was pale.
Anyway, the spot is really nice and taken care of very well so it’s worth it on date night. This time around I decided to take some home with me; note the take home pints are only marginally more expensive than their small size. I bought a pint of sorbet and now that I’ve got it home in not sure it will ever thaw– if I peeled the packaging away I’d have an ice pop. I’ll get the pick axe out and make some adult beverages at some point and it’ll be no harm, no foul. I just hope their gelato fairs better in their take home section.

This is absolutely my favorite new spot for a cold treat! While I’m definitely a huge fan of vanilla, I always have a hard time convincing myself to pick it when I’m out (because vanilla is for home — where I don’t know how to concoct brilliant flavor combinations), but oh-​my-​goodness am I happy I ordered the vanilla! So delicious. The Hubs got chocolate which — in my own elegant words — «tastes like it has REAL cocoa in it!» The staff was super friendly, the atmosphere was inviting and super clean, and I love that the walls are decorated with art from Logan Elementary students (how awesome is that?!). It’s also nice that it connects to Drip with a nice little hallway full of records to browse while devouring your gelato if it’s too cold (or hot) outside. The location is great, the gelato is absolutely delicious and the service was perfect!

Such an inviting new place! I love the green color scheme and cute seating area they have out front. Stopped by yesterday for free cone day and after sampling the cap’n crunch (brilliant by the way), I decided on pistachio and loved it. They weren’t ordinary cones either… I think they were infused with cinnamon which I really enjoyed and ***spoiler alert*** there were little marshmallows once you got to the bottom, so unexpected but delicious!
The staff were entertaining and friendly, letting you sample as much as you wanted. They also have a freezer where you can buy pints of various other flavors. If you get 20 stamps on your card, it’s free gelato time. I’ll definitely be back. Love this addition to 5 points.

I found the selection of gelato to be small, however everything I sampled and eventually ordered was great. We finally settled on delicious pistachio flavor which is oh so good on a hot day in SC ! You can stop over a Drip next door and get some really good coffee or tea once you finished getting your gelato fix in five points.

Scoopy Doo is nestled in right next to Drip in 5 points. It has a fab covered outdoor seating area (that big round table with the stools is totes adorbs) and a few seats inside the front door. They also have a larger seating area that is shared with Drip behind the counter area. There is a cool little window back there where you can kinda peak in the kitchen area (I’m nosey like that). Also in this area they have local art work and records that are available for purchase.
But back to the gelato! Boyfriend got the vanilla and I got the espresso. Both were delicious. The flavors were strong but not over powering. I especially liked that mine was actually made using espresso from Drip. I thought the prices were reasonable. If you went to a ice cream or yogurt place you’d pay the same but I like the gelato better.
Scoopy Doo is a cool place for some cool treats. I can’t wait to take all my cool friends there.

Stopped by here after eating at Sizzle. It is located right next to Drip in Five Points (They own it also). Overall I was very impressed with the place. The selection is small, but the quality is outstanding. My friend the the coconut and chocolate and I got the chocolate as well. Overall very impressed. The gelato was very good, reminded a lot of Luna Rosa in Greenville. The service was outstanding as well, she let us sample as may flavor as we wanted to. My only complaint is I wish the portion sizes were a bit bigger. However, still a very great place to grab desert after dinner.

Even though I’ve only been in Columbia since January, new places are opening all the time. Fortunately, the new places that keep opening are also very good! Scoopy Doo is no exception.
I heard about this place from a fellow Unilocaler this weekend during a Unilocal event. My girlfriend really wanted to try it after brunch, so we did. Pretty awesome! You can tell they’re still getting things together, as there isn’t a ton of indoor seating but this place is really, really good. She had chocolate and pistachio gelato, and I decided on the blueberry sorbetto. Both were very tasty and as good news for those who might be wondering, gelatos are all gluten free and sorbettos are all vegan.
Hopefully this place is a great start in a hopeful trend to «clean up» Five Points a bit and make it a fun place for young adults and others to hang out instead of having a reputation as the «college bar strip.»
