Specialties
Since 1997, Mid Missouri’s only vegetarian eatery, Main Squeeze Natural Foods is known for our super fresh sandwiches, salads, wraps, hot dish, fresh juice, smoothies and vegan baked goods. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner, the menu emphasizes certified organic foods and we source ingredients locally as much as possible. The atmosphere is cheerful and relaxed, great for bringing the kiddos, your mom or your main squeeze. We were green before green was a thing, buying from local farms, growing some of our own, composting all of our food waste, buying more than 80% of our items certified organic, recycling, filtering all of our water and loads of other business practices that help us sleep at night. We love animals. We love our community and we love cooking delicious, healthy food for you!
History
Established in 1997.
A passion for fresh juices and smoothies led owner Leigh Lockhart to open Main Squeeze as a micro business inside Lakota Coffee Company in 1997. Leigh began to source more and more of her menu locally and organically and business boomed. When a space 2 doors south opened up almost a year later, Leigh, with loads and loads of help from friends, family and community, opened Main Squeeze Natural Foods Café and Juice Bar in March 1998. Main Squeeze was the first juice bar in central Missouri and Columbia hadn’t seen a vegetarian café in over a decade. The overwhelming support of the café has helped it weather economic challenges, and Leigh continues to be eternally grateful to the individuals that loaned her money, rallied support, eaten thousands of meals, held her hand and kept the café alive and well. Leigh also believes the café’s success is due to the wonderful, loving, hardworking staff that keeps her thoroughly entertained.
