Holiday Inn Express & Suites Columbia-I-20 @ Clemson Rd

Here for business. I don’t know where to start.
Bernard checked me in, which was seemless. He acknowledged my rewards account, preferences and amenities. I made it to my room; clean, smelled freah, then I had case of bottles water with a thank you not from the staff. (Here on official duties to help with disaster recovery).
Parking is free in well lit open lot. Convenient location right off I20 with restaurants right near. Free WiFi and hot breakfast every morning. Chris is the main breakfast host during the week. He’s awesome, attentive and gets to know the guests. He makes you feel like you’re having breakfast at a friends house. The other front desk clerks Tony & Alex are awesome as well, always smiling, asking how’s my day, making sure I have snacks and bottled water. Those things mean alot when working in the field bc water is not always drinkable.
The above staff made me feel right at home and if I have to come back to the area this will definitely be my choice for hotel.
It’s a small hotel but spacious, well decorated and clean!

Thanks guys for making my South Carolina stay comfortable. A little mix up in the beginning but things happen, especially when there are large groups involved. Front desk staff is extremely helpful, especially you, Miss Olena. I want to give special recognition to the lounge staff. You guys are up super early turning out breakfasts for the early risers and hard workers. And I want to take home the pancake machine. If you stay, you gotta go check it out. I think I was pressing the button a bunch of times to watch it make pancakes. I ate them all of course… Anyway, location is right off the freeway, there’s a Waffle House, a McDonald’s, a Bojangles, and a CVS for your toiletries.

We loved the location and the staff. We were here for my sons boot camp graduation. My son got chocolate on his dress white shirt and the front desk went to the laundry to get us stain remover so he wouldn’t have to report in with a dirty shirt. Thank you so much for the help!

Excellent staff. Very helpful. The room was perfect. Clean and fresh. Breakfast in the morning was awesome. I would stay here everytime I was in the area. PERFECT

We reserved, online (holiday Inn), a room with two queen beds. We checked in and found out they gave OUR room away. They claimed that when you reserve online it only gives you a standard room even if you hand select the available room. What? That doesn’t sound right.
They said they would upgrade us to a King Suite with a pull out sofa. This is not what we ordered and they should have given us two rooms instead. Imagine thinking you would sleep on a queen bed and instead you get to sleep on a pull out sofa? Not good. Then tell us they have upgraded us for free to a suite. Well if it is a special room then why is every room on the second floor the same? It was not a special room.
Bait and switch. I know they had a better option they wouldn’t accomodate. We had four people in our room and two had to sleep on the very uncomfortable pull out sofa!
They also said the room would be $ 79 and instead it was 95.95 plus tax $ 107.47. They said we could get a second room for 129.00. We should have gotten two rooms for the price of one since it was their error.

Very nice hotel. Just like other reviews, I can agree that the staff here is among the best. They are very nice, courteous, and make you feel very welcome to be there. The lounge is great for breakfast and they always have cookies to give to guests ;). Only complaints I have is that the rooms don’t have safes and if it rains outside then the overhead cover at the entrance have no gutters to stop the waterfall if you have to run to your car. All in all this is a great hotel to stay at if you’re in the Columbia area!

Great hotel. Comfy beds. A little trouble with the hot water, you had to be very close to too hot or it was stone cold. Maybe it was just our room. Staff was very courteous. We were towing a car and they let us park under the pavilion where you check in. It would have been very dificult other wise to park it in the parking lot.
The breakfast was awesome! That made it worth the tricky hot water. My boys are full and ready to go.

Rooms are very spatial, and the rooms specifically with the king-​sized beds (which is what we booked) contained a couch that is able to open up into a separate bed.
Flat screen TVs and high-​speed Internet were both included –which was nice.
The breakfast was not too great –very limited in options.
I really didn’t like the fact that tiny styrofoam cups were placed into the rooms for the coffee and/​or tea. Real, glass cups would have been nice (and the hotel could charge if the cups were taken during check-​out). Just a recommendation.
The hotel is also located right next to a Duncan Donuts and garage (gas station).

I travelled extensively to Columbia in 2011 and this hotel was convenient to were I was working. Initially, I was working nights. If I were to review based only on the first week of nights, I’d give the place 1 star. There was a fire alarm two different times right during my sleep cycle. A couple other times I had housekeeping knock to ask if I needed servce. My «do not disturb» sign was on the door handle but that didn’t deter them. Eventually, I had a sign on the door explaining my schedule and to not disturb when the sign was out. After that, the staff was much more accomodating. They would even be right there if I yanked my sign off by 2 p.m. to service my room at the end of their shift. Later on, I was working days and sleeping nights like most of us do.
There was one instance which made an impression with me. I was using their laundry service which required one to drop off before 8 a.m. and it would be back by 6 p.m. At the time, they were having trouble with changing service providers. I was still on nights, my clothes had not come back, and I was wearing my last set of work clothes. The front desk offered to wash them in their own equipment. Forutnately, I at least had some gym shorts and t-​shirt to wear. They washed my clothes and had them done by the time I woke up mid-​afternoon.
The ambience for this H.I. Express is very nice compared to most of them. I’d say it is a bit more upscale for this business class hotel. They also had a happy hour on Tues/​Wed hosted by a nearby restaurant with complimentary wine, snacks, and coupons for said restaurant. One day I received a call that I was chosen as the «guest of the day.» I received a gift basket with some snacks, bottled water, and coupons to various nearby restaurants.
Overall, it is a good business class type of hotel. It is even good for leisure travelers.

Super nice and professional front desk staff. Two middle aged guys… a black guy and a white guy… impeccably dressed… efficient w/​o being in a hurry. Engaging w/​o the gaggingly fake BFF crap that seems to be the ubiquitous substitute for genuine care and competence.
Suggestions of restaurants by front desk staff were very good… they actually knew the area. Another guest was checking in and inquired as to «where an auto parts store might be ?» the black cat suggested he drop off his bags in the room. and in the mean time he would print directions !! Outstanding !
I wish all the hotels I stay at would have front desk personnel similar to these two cool dudes !
Hotel was clean, well maintained. Breakfast was typical and decent offering plenty of high calorie choices for the all the fat Americans to suck down as they plotted ways to reduce, or eliminate all unnecessary physical movement and exertion.
The guy at breakfast was exceedingly pleasant with a genuine «good morning, how are you»…actually looking at you in the process… crazy unheard of !
