AFC Doctors Express Urgent Care

Doctor’s Express has hired a new doctor named Dr. Huncharek. He claims to be a Harvard educated specialist in oncology. How bad does a doctor have to be to go from that to working at Doctor’s Express. Please do not misunderstand me. I have been going to Doctor’s Express for years and have used them as my primary care doctors. I think they have had some wonderful physicians there who have provided a convenient and professional service. However, Dr. Huncharek does not fill those shoes. He acts as though the job and the patients are beneath him. He spent all of five minutes with me after I waited an hour in the patient exam room. I explained to him my concerns: difficulty sleeping and being tired all of the time coupled with a lack of focus and a memory that isn’t as sharp as it once was. I have a history of anemia but haven’t had a prescription for the time-​release iron supplement for quite some time. Instead, I’ve been using an OTC vitamin supplement. That could be causing some of the problems, I don’t know. I have also gained weight which I am very unhappy with. I have a prescription for thyroid medicine — maybe that needs to be adjusted? If nothing else, maybe I just need something to help curb my appetite and make me less tired. I don’t know what the answer is, but I feel like something is off, and I’m looking for help. After our very brief 5 minute encounter, during which he asked me more about my knee replacement and talked about how he needed to get one done but was putting it off, he pronounced that he would refer me to a psychiatrist and would not refill ANY of my prescriptions until I had seen a psychiatrist. What doctor wouldn’t at the very least run some blood work or do a urine test or something? I’m sure they see their share of drug seeking addicts in there but trust me — that is NOT me. I am a 45 year old wife and mother of three who works full time. Like I have time for drugs! I have no objections whatsoever to psychiatric care, but as I told him, I think he is doing his patients a disservice to not at least look for a physical explanation for the symptoms of which they complain. I suppose it is easier to collect the premium payment you make for the «convenient» service than to actually PROVIDE a service. If they were a retail establishment, I would demand a refund. Please folks — save your money and go elsewhere. Dr. Huncharek is a disgrace to his profession.

Coming here from out out-​of-​state, you never know what to expect. What I found was a nice office building which was easy to get to, a friendly and efficient receptionist, a short wait time, and a very nice Dr. Burrell who quickly diagnosed my condition and answered all of my questions. I would recommend this urgent care facility if you don’t know where to go and need care in Columbia. Overall, a pleasant experience.

I had not been here in two years and more than likely won’t be coming back… as long as Dr. Reed is there. He was very rude and rushed with the visit. I have NEVER IN MY LIFE seen a doctor treat patients that way. There is a reason you may see his name on every horrible review for Doctor’s Express. Please stay away unless you want to feel humiliated when you leave. I should’ve taken the time to drive to Lexington Urgent Care in Irmo. The docs are nice there.

This place is terrible. Due to a chronic illness my mother has, we have been here three times in four weeks. The woman at the front desk is incompetent and dishonest. Each time I bring my mother here for the same blood test and each time the receptionist says it can’t be done until I ask to speak to the attending physician. The wait time is ridiculously long. The care is substandard. After having blood taken, the nurse didn’t put a bandage on my mom’s arm and blood was literally gushing from her arm. The receptionist stared at the gushing blood while another patient and I tried to help my mom. Seriously, you’d have better medical treatment at a barber than here.

The nursing and reception staff are very friendly and helpful, so it pains me to give such a low rating. However, I must agree that Dr. Reed is completely unprofessional and rude. He continuously interrupted me and laughed in my face multiple times. He wouldn’t even listen to my symptoms or concerns before trying to diagnose me or give me medication. I was already on the medication he insisted I should take, but he wouldn’t listen long enough to understand that! I could hear him making fun of me in the hallway to the nurses. It was by far the worst medical experience of my life and I will never return to this office. There are plenty of other urgent care options in the Columbia area, and I highly recommend looking into those other options. Dr. Reed should not be a doctor, and I’m not sure why he is, because he does not seem interested in helping others.

I went in there with a potentially serious issue on a Sunday. I am new to town and don’t yet have a family doctor.
The Dr I saw, Dr. Michael Reed, was argumentative, dismissive and almost confrontational. I have never had this type of treatment from an American doctor.
He wasn’t listening to what I was telling him, and didn’t do a thorough check or even adequate fact-​finding.
Fortunately I was able to get into a family doctor the next day at a regular doctors’ office and they were able to discover a potentially serious problem, referred me for additional testing and prescribed the correct medication.
There are lots of choices for Urgent Care in the area (including one down the street). Unless you want to see Soviet-​style medicine first-​hand, go elsewhere!
