Veda Salon & Spa- University Village

Aleka did a great job with my as always. I have grey resistant hair and he does a great job covering it and coloring it in a way that gives it dimension. I love the hair cut and color. Exceptional Service at this salon. My hair is soft, shiny and silky after the hair nourishment treatment as well. With the sun and the dry air my hair really needed this!

I have been in to have Aleka do my hair several times now. Every single time he has given me exactly what I was looking for. For years I tried to get the perfect cut on my bangs and get my hair healthy. With his great coaching & cutting, he has helped me love my hair more and more. I would HIGHLY recommend him. Great personality & stylist! I can’t rave enough about him. Just get here and schedule with him.

Somehow I’m always a bit disappointed with chains, this apparently includes salons. I went for a massage and facial. Once was for a prenatal and one was post natal. Maybe it was just my luck, or lack thereof but the ladies who (both of them) who did my facial and prenatal massage just would not stop talking! I came to relax ladies, not get a lesson in pore cleansing and then another lecture on the benefits of breast feeding. About ten to fifteen minutes in, still talking my ear off I could not relax and finally told her I was a surrogate (which I was, not just an excuse to quiet the noise) and she gave me a, «oh, I see.» As if I was commuting some hellacious offense. That made things quite awkward and she got frankly, lazy afterwards. Please keep your opinions, lectures and mediocre massage for some other expecting mother. Afterwards, again I somehow managed to get another young lady who really felt the need to talk the entire time. It felt like a conspiracy against relaxation. This after a mother daughter (of about twelve) was being too loud for a spa relaxation area and no one on staff seemed to think to say anything. Finally I had to dish them myself. Is it too much to ask for some serenity? Yes, apparently it is too much. This was the perfect reminder of why I usually pick local owners who take a lot of pride in their business as opposed to a large chain that has a revolving door of customers with lack of spa etiquette and staff who doesn’t seem to care either.

Kelsey made sure my first time in was great! She really listened to what I envisioned for my hair and made it happen. Also, I told her how I usually wore my hair and she styled it that way without me asking. The front desk staff was also very friendly and helpful.

UPDATE:
I won’t come back here. My free fix did not pan out well. My should be platinum blonde is yellow and they wouldn’t tone it at all. I have sections of hair that are white and others that are an intense brassy yellow/​orange STILL. My hair is less stripey but no where near my expectations. My stylist informed me that I would have to come back for several more appointments to attain the blonde I desired. If you want blonde, STAY AWAY FROM HERE.
Is an Ashy-​platinum too much to ask for? From a natural level 8N? I can do it at home and get better results and still have healthy hair.

I saw Melea for a cut and all over color. I showed her some pictures of the style of cut I was looking for and the color. My hair ended up a little bit shorter than what I originally wanted, but only by half an inch or so. Overall, I had a good experience and will be back.

I made a mistake on my appointment time and was 30 minutes late, so the front desk found the next available person for me. This was my first appointment with Veda in the Springs, and I’m glad I ended up with Ellen. She cut my (thin/​straight) hair, and she did a fabulous job. She took the time to understand what I liked and didn’t like about my current style and even went over styling tips with me. One of the absolute best haircuts I’ve ever had. She’s a delight, and she knows hair! (Level 4 Stylist) I’ll be back every 5 – 6 weeks.

Honestly the WORST hair experience I have ever had. I have always gone to Veda and typically to the Southgate location, but I decided to go to the University Village Location since it is closer to my work/​school. I made an appointment for a hair cut and asked the receptionist to please put me with a stylist that has experience with extensions. I occasionally wear clip-​in extensions, and I wanted the stylist to put them in and blend them with my hair since that is what my old Veda stylist would do. I clearly explained this to the receptionist, and she agreed to put me with a level 4 stylist that had experience with this.
After checking in for my appointment, I waited and my stylist was about 15 minutes late. She didn’t even take me back to her station to set my things down, but took me directly to the washing station where I had to hold all of my belongings while she washed my hair (not typical). After going back to her station, she noticed my hair extensions that i brought in and asked about them. Turns out, she had no idea that I wanted her to blend them, and said she couldn’t do it because they only booked her for 40 minutes, which is no where near long enough. I told her that I clearly told the receptionist about this and she said she would check with the front desk when I left. The stylist was very rude to me and probably said 2 words to me throughout the whole 40 minutes. When she was finished, she didn’t even walk me to the front or check with the front desk about the extension issue.
I talked to the front desk after, and apparently the girl who made my appointment had noted that I wanted to get extensions… which still doesn’t make sense as to why only a 40 minute appointment had been scheduled. I explained that I would not have paid to get my hair cut by a level 4 stylist seeing that they are more expensive. If I was only getting my hair cut and not doing anything with my extensions, I would have seen a level 2 or 3 stylist.
Honestly, I was very disappointed seeing that Veda is supposed to be such a prestigious salon. I have hardly had any problems with the south location, but University Village was dirty and the staff was unfriendly. I do not recommend this location at all. If you are going to go to Veda, at least choose the Southgate location.

I’ve had my hair cut by Diana at Veda-​University Village and she did a great job. She was pleasant, professional, and took her time to understand my curly hair. She is the reason that they get two stars.
The rest of the staff and their general attitude earn one star at best. The front desk staff are vapid, unhelpful, and rarely friendly. When I called to make my first appointment, I told the person I spoke with that I wanted to work with someone who specializes in curly hair. Like the 4÷7÷15 reviewer, they seemed to ignore this request and gave me a long list of options. I had to push to get an appointment with Diana. (They even asked me one time if I had spelled my own name wrong, just because it has an unusual spelling.)
The cut I got from Diana was great though, so I decided to come back again for a trim and highlights before my wedding. When I came in for that appointment I was told that Diana didn’t have time in her schedule that day. The best answer I could get as to why was that the appointment hadn’t been recorded properly so not enough time was blocked out for cut and color. I was leaving town the following morning (again — for my wedding) but this urgent circumstance didn’t make them any more willing to accommodate me. Not even an apology.
So I left, but then came back in to see if they could get me in at the Academy location. (Why didn’t they offer to do that themselves?) Academy had an opening so I went there. Apparently the stylist they booked me with was the lowest level they have, while the one my original appointment with was the highest level, and this turned out to be a fatal mistake.
The result of this new appointment at Academy was not good. I know that should be a separate review, but I’ll mention it now as an aside just to complete the story. I have dark brown hair and asked for subtle, auburn highlights that match the lighter tones already in my hair. I specifically used the phrase «not blonde». How did it turn out? Blonde. Heavy blonde streaks. I was panicking. (I know, don’t use a new stylist right before your wedding — that is my mistake, but I was feeling a bit frantic after my original appointment couldn’t be accommodated.) It was the end of the day and the salon was closing but after I expressed my dissatisfaction, this stylist agreed to find an appointment for me with someone else first thing in the morning to get it fixed. She still charged me the full price that night, despite me literally being in tears about what I looked like.
The next morning I saw Odessa at Academy, who was able to completely undo the terrible blonde streaks and put in the highlights I was actually hoping for. There was no charge for her service. She is also the highest level stylist they have and she was professional and helpful, just like Diana.
Returning our attention to UV, I just called today to ask about a keratin straightening treatment. Their website mentions that they do «treatments» but not what specifically. The girl I spoke to had no information (she said she was new), but was friendly and went to ask her manager. The answer was «no, that treatment doesn’t align with our philosophy but we do relaxing treatments». Ok, so I asked what brand of product they use in the relaxing treatment. She asked her manager again and they wouldn’t give me any information about the brand of product they use because they «don’t have information about what the product is or what chemicals are in it» and that I could only get information about the service if I come in for a consultation. Seriously? You have a hair philosophy but refuse to tell me what brand of product you use?
If I had to boil this down to a thesis statement, I’d say that the front desk staff and lower trained employees are uninformed, rude, and not customer service oriented. The two master level stylists I’ve had were really great, but the rest of the experience of going to Veda makes me want to take my business elsewhere. It’s too bad.

I have found that Aveda salons are the only places I can safely take my head of curly hair. Being new to this salon, I called to make my appointment and asked for whoever was best with curly hair, didn’t care what level. That’s all I ever ask for, is someone very experienced with curly hair, as it has to be cut differently.
I should have trusted my gut when it seemed odd that they were letting me pick any day and pretty much any time. If you have one or two people who are specifically great with particular types of hair/​cuts, shouldn’t my options be a little slimmer? But I convinced myself that maybe they have that skill covered no matter what time or day it is.
I get there, I sit down, and almost immediately realize that the girl about to cut my hair seems to lack confidence in her skills. I tell and show her how much I want off and off we go.
The cut starts okay but she has a very different method than anyone else I’ve seen. But hey, whatever works best for you. So she takes off the initial length and goes around to even things out. And around. And around. And around. Then she trims up my layers.
I opt to air dry so I can see how it’s really going to look.
Later that day, I get home and take a good look in the mirror. 3 times as much length was cut off than I asked for. We’re not talking going from 1 inch to 3 either. At least 6 inches of my length was cut off. It’s still long enough to not turn me into a poodle or a pyramid, but my long hair is GONE.
I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to go back next time and ask for a master or above who is good with curly hair, or if I’m going to bite the bullet and go to a nicer place in Denver.
OH and maybe I got spoiled where I was before, but this salon didn’t do any of the usual Aveda «experiences» prior to the cut. My old salon would do a lavender oil scalp and shoulder massage before everything, and a hand massage if you were there long enough and they had the staff for it. The only Aveda experience this place offers is tea, water, or coffee at the beginning.

I have been a regular at Veda for about 6 years now. I had several different waxing services done with lovely ladies but I have been stuck on KATHLEEN! she is the BEST! I am not kidding when I tell you it does not hurt when I get a Brazilian with her! She’s funny and finds way to distract you from the pain if you’re a beginner. I am so grateful for the great service at this salon I can’t imagine going to anyone (Kathleen) or anywhere else!

Tia is my girl! She takes care of my blonde locks and I am super happy every time I walk out after an appointment with her! Beautiful place, best view in the Springs.

As a first time customer, I was very happy with my hair cut with Stephanie. She is a true professional with a lot of experience, and very friendly. I have very thick, long hair and she cut my hair into a shoulder-​length cut I LOVE and blow-​dried it in under 30 minutes; my appt total time was about 45.
The salon itself was very up-​to-​date and nice with a relaxing feel. They offered me a beverage when I first went in.
The reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was the price– $ 70 is a lot for a haircut so I can’t imagine what the coloring prices are. Personally I don’t get my hair cut very often so it was worth the price to have it be a cut I love.

I went here for the first time on Monday for a color job. I loved the environment and stylist, and I thought everything was fine. However, over the last two days, my hair is definitely NOT auburn, or even an auburn brunette, but closer to black, which I really did not want.
I would go and have color correction done, but there is no way I can afford that. I really needed it to be the shade the stylist showed me, which should have been much lighter and much more red. I’m a bit disappointed and wish I could have it fixed somehow.

Massage with Tricia — I’m very picky when it comes to massage and a good massage therapist understand comfort and communication are important. Tricia’s impeccable service is always a joy. She makes sure you relax and have water first. She explains the process and gives opportunity for questions before the massage begins.
When it comes to the actual massage — there is NO ONE like Tricia!
Treat yourself and book your massage with the best. She will leave you feeling as though you floated off a cloud into your perfect self. The peace and serenity you walk away with is priceless.

My experience here compared to the Academy location was like night and day. Everyone that I encountered was super sweet, courteous and helpful. I saw Ashley, who did an amazing job covering my roots and gave me a gorgeous multi-​layered cut. I already booked my next appointment with her.
People go to salons like this knowing they’ll pay more, not just because it’s Aveda but also for a superior experience. Not sure what the factor is in the difference between this location and the one on Academy, but they may want to replicate the University Village’s magic at the north location. I know where I’ll be taking my business to from now on.
