We have been coming to La Carreta for 18 years and LOVE it! You can always get in for supper, and they have the most fresh verde sauce you’ve ever had! Don’t miss out. Enchiladas Verdes or the Tostada La Carreta are my recommendations.

This place is legit authentic Mexican food. From the first bite to the last, it was enjoyable. I had the pozole soup and it had that richness expected, a good home cooked taste. We had a large group of six and each person loved their dish. The service was pleasant and attentive. The interior was clean and cozy. Location is off the beaten path, but don’t let that deter you from enjoying true authentic Mexican food.

This is a great. Mexican food restaurant, not tex-mex! It is located in an old strip mall, but do not let that turn you away. The restaurant is beyond clean and the décor is interior Mexico. Service was friendly and they catered to our every need. Had a crispy relleno and a beef encilada. The red sauce was over the top good. The serving size was perfect. My wife had the chicken avocado burrito with home made Mexican rice and beans. We both cleaned our plates to say the least. This is a hidden gem, do not miss it!

finally found a mexican restaurant in town i will return to! ordered the mexi carnitas tacos and they were authentic and came with a very spicy salsa! Did not order a margarita but my friends had the house margaritas and loved them. The outside is a bit shady but the food is totally worth it! Service was a bit slow but nothin to worry about as i had chips and salsa to keep me busy. Happy Hour is 4 – 6 mon-fri so i will have to return for that.

We were referred by friends and THIS is our new spot. The food is superb and the service is very gracious whenever we visit. We plan to try everything on the menu… eventually! Have to put in a good word for the margaritas as well. Fab. It is tucked away just east of downtown and worth finding. Multigenerational family owned and family run. Great people!

I have to give this place a five star rating over there fajitas. I travel the country and check out Mexican restaurants all the time for fajitas, a meal I love. When I went into this place I found it clean and friendly. But mostly I was surprised by how well the fajitas were presented. Nice size portion, very tasty. I was impressed when you didn’t have to ask for an extra plate to make your fajitas on. And when I ask for butter, was given a nice little bowl of warmed up butter rather than a frozen brick paddy. This is definitely a place I will return to when I go through Colorado Springs.

Hadn’t been here in over a year because we were disappointed with the food the last time we came. Saw on Unilocal that it was under new ownership and the newer reviews were great so we gave it a try. Glad we did! Food is great! Had the enchiladas with red sauce-the sauce is probably the best I’ve ever had-so flavorful. Husband had the enchiladas mole verde and he thought they were delicious. We will definitely be back!

I’ll start with a WOW! I saw a review from the local newsrag and decided to take the family out to a late lunch after church. I knew what to expect of the area having worked all over town for the last 20+ years so no surprise there. The surprises started with the house salsa and continued through our entire meal. We were all so impressed we shared bites to get a sampling of all the dishes we ordered. Service was prompt and friendly, food was exceptional!

First time dining here. I had a coupon from for $ 10 off a $ 20 or more order, so my partner and I decided to give this place a shot. We came on a Sunday and the place was pretty packed. Waited about 15 minutes before they could get to us, but they had let us know that when we got there. At least we had a table at which to sit while we looked over the menu. The server finally brought us chips and salsa; salsa was more like fresca/pico but was fresh and very good. Waited a few more minutes and another server took our order for drinks and food. I had the horchata, which was good but needed more cinnamon for my taste. Foodwise my partner had the Taco Othón and I had a torta with asada. We waited a little while for our food but it was worth it. The pork chili on the Othón was on point and my torta was the size of a Nerf football. The fries that came on the side with the torta weren’t quite done/crispy enough for my taste but they were hot and had a tasty seasoning. The ladies waiting tables were all very friendly and attentive to our needs. If you want some good down-home Mexican food, this is a recommended stop. I’ll have to try a margarita here next time. Don’t let the modest exterior of the strip mall scare you from stopping here. It’s often the places that are off the beaten path that have the best food, after all.

Place sucked! Service sucked! My daughter sat down while I went to use the restroom came back sat down and no one came to served us. Place smelled really old I don’t understand how it’s rated one of the best place I wouldn’t even take my dog here.

Loved it. Not so fast service, but amazing salsa while we waited for a meal that was worth the wait! Food was the best Mexican I can remember in a long time — AND the teenaged stepsons enjoyed it. Definitely a plus. PLUS we got free sopapillas because of our wait. I don’t like honey, but loved these decadent triangles. If we lived closer than 13 hours away, we’d eat here regularly!

With the NEWOWNERS as of approximately 9 months ago… This is Mexican food with a New Mexico flavor. Come on people this is the best best best red chili enchiladas in town. The red chili sauce is so packed full of flavor! This is how red chili is supposed to be! Trust me it takes all day just to make a batch of their red chili! That my friends is what LOVETASTESLIKE!!!#

We decided to try it based on the recommendation in the Gazette and we were not disappointed! This Mexican restaurant is a hidden gem! We tried the Alambre #1, carnitas and a burrito, all were very flavorful and the rice was actually really good. We will definitely be back.

We’ve been patrons of this hidden gem since a couple of weeks after they opened. All these years later, and it’s still homey, delicious, and so clean it squeaks. I don’t eat Mexican food in this town except La Carreta or homemade.

The Tuesday group has gone back here several times. The Margaritas are good and the service attentive. I always bring a cushion for my chair and the rest of the group wishes that they had thought of doing the same. The chairs are the old Mexico style, very upright and uncomfortable. So bring a cushion and enjoy the good things about this place. The salsa and chips is more like pico de gallo and very fresh. I think their«salsa» is the best in town, lots of flavor and not burny-hot. They have an expansive menu and some of it I had to ask the staff what it was. I would NOT recommend this place to a vegetarian. My wife ordered something vegetarian and it was like they opened a can of mixed vegetables and wrapped it in a tortilla. But if you are an adventure-loving carnivore, with a cushion, give this place a try. And if you can’t seem to find it, go to Iowa and Kiowa.

I had a smothered chicken burrito and it was very good. The beans and rice were also delicious. Price was decent $ 8.50 for the meal(without a drink). What I really like is that for lunch they have a special menu that all the meals on there are $ 6.50 for people that work at certain companies(one of which I work at) if you show them your work ID. There are not many places that have those kind of specials any more. The atmosphere is nice and homey. The service was good and I’m a sucker for family own and run restaurants. They had a young man there that is about 13 years old helping with getting drinks and checking up on the customers. Way to instill a good work ethic early on!

Wow!!! I couldn’t have been more impressed with this place. Several reviews say«don’t let the outside scare you»…how true that is!(Don’t judge a book by the cover as they say.) They have a lot of choices, the staff are absolutely fantastic, and the margaritas are HUGE. This is a great Mexican restaurant that you must try!
