Barney’s Diner

Wow new owners really make a difference. My husband heard that Barney’s was once again a great place to get home cooked meals and a reasonable price. We went on a late Saturday morning and I had bacon and eggs and he had chicken fried steak. The bacon was amazing but the gravy over top his chicken fried steak was every bit as good as my Great grandmother’s! Our waitress Julie told us she had been there for over 6 years and had worked for several owners but she was really excited about the changes that have taken place and the new entrees being added to the menu. She invited us to come in on a Monday and try the German Rouladen. It consists of onions, mustard, bacon, and a dill pickle spear rolled up with thinly sliced beef. OMG we went back and tried it — delicious!!! So if you are looking for a clean diner that prepares home cooked meals for a reasonable price try Barney’s Diner. You won’t be disappointed! Don’t be surprised if Gordy or Justin stops by your table to thank you for coming in!

The family and I were out running around getting home supplies, we came upon Barney’s by accident. It looked a little sketchy from the outside. We all ordered burgers and wow we were amazed. The burgers were on the small side but they were cooked to perfection. They were juicy and cooked perfect. Most places either they over cook them or they are still bloody in the middle. The service is what you would expect from a small town family dinner. The best part is that this home style dinner is downtown!!! I will be back many more times.

Classic Diner, tucked away in the industrial side of town! Great burgers and chicken! Well worth the excursion!

Decent food and fun little dive atmosphere. The thing thatskes Barney’s is the Staff. The place was full of regulars that the staff new by name. Cheap place to get a home cooked meal.

i was looking for a diner one very tired saturday morning, and found barney’s on Unilocal.this place is fun! it’s very much a dive-​y diner, and the food isn’t great but it’s good. i think they make their french toast out of pancakes… which was awesome. their corned beef hash is not very good. the food is not spectacular, but it’s exactly what i wanted and expected from a place like this. the menu is standard diner fare, with wonderfully low prices.
the waitress was older and really nice, even thought i think it was just one lady waiting on all the tables in the restaurant. she was really wonderful and sweet and everything — the service alone would make me come back. no, she wasn’t the quickest, but she had lots of tables, and i was just mozying around on a saturday morning so it really wasn’t a big deal.
i want to come back to try their ‘famous’ fried chicken dinner cause they had signs all around the restaurant for it.

To be fair, I must say I am from NYC. My friends and I had been gathering at Barney’s for fun and food until one morning years ago. One of the guys asked for poached eggs, the waitress was rude and the eggs were hard as a rock. When confronted the waitress apologized. She returned as rude as ever.
We all threw our money on the table and walked out… never to return. The food was fair and the atmosphere was interesting, but the waitress was a fool.

Ambiance: 50’s style diner. Very small. A few tables and some counter seating. Very retro. The kind of place that is usally a «find».
Service: Friendy and attentive — acceptable. Food arrives timely.
Food: Boy was I dissapointed! Maybe my expectations for good, old-​fashioned diner food were too high. First off, I arrived on Wednesday for lunch, as I was anxious to try their weekly Fried Chicken dinner special. The soup tasted straight out of a can. The chicken was so over-​cooked, that the breast meat was literally like sawdust. Super dry, and no flavor (though the outside breading was decent). I choked down a few bites with lots of drinks of water, before I gave up, not finishing my entrée. Served with it was non-​descript canned green beans. Also was mashed potatoes, which were alright, but the gravy was the worst I have had in ages. Very unusual, almost sort of an artificial flavor. Also served with a cold, store-​bought white roll.
Overall, this place in no way resembles my Grandmother’s cooking. This is the kind of place I usually «rave» about, for their simple yet delicious old-​time country cooking, This place is not one of those. Can not reccommend at all.

Blast from the blast type of diner, guaranteed to find something you’ll enjoy if you’re into the greasy spoon joints. Appeals to an older crowd, homy family vibe. I ordered a meal that came with a heaping amount of biscuits and gravy, an egg and hash browns for a very reasonable price of $ 4.75, also decided to try a half order of the french toast. Could have done without the french toast (flimsy pieces of bread with a little egg batter. very dry) although, the B&G were very yummy!

So we hear that the wednesday night fried chicken special is what it is all about. Get there early to get the tastiest portions. All you can eat for a set price and B.Y.O.B, hows about that!

Barney’s Diner is a Colorado Springs institution. I have been eating there for nearly 20 years. Given its austere setting and out-​of-​the-​way location, one would assume it is just another greasy spoon. Not so. The food really is homemade… down to the salad dressings. The chicken fried steak is the real thing, rather than a pre-​battered, just off the Sisco truck frozen and deep fried leather slab. Prices are out of the 60s… although so are the surroundings. Worth a trip… and the Wednesday fried chicken is just like Mom’s Sunday dinner. This is how America used to be in the 50’s and 60’s and it is truly wonderfully special.
