Welcome to River Terra in historic Colonial Beach on the Potomac River. We are a pet and children friendly bed and breakfast in Virginia’s Northern Neck. Your stay with us includes wine, tapas, bedtime nightcap and a full breakfast. Allow your mind to quiet, your stress melt and your senses to awaken. Just relax, we’ve got you.

Our charming house was built in 1911 and boasts four bedrooms, a lovely interior and big porches. We have an acre of fenced property for outside events, and provide custom designed retreats with yoga, massage, culinary arts and nature. Play cards on the sun porch, sleep late in comfy beds, daydream in the hammock, dine on locally grown food and walk or cycle into town and nearby wineries. We are rural, not boring, and there are always outdoor excursions and activities around town to explore year-​round.

History

Established in 2013.

The Cator House was born in 1911. Around 1920, Patrick O’Toole, owner Kristine’s maternal great grandfather, bought the place. Her grandparents, Florence and Charles Cator, lived in the home until they passed away.

At 100+ years old, the house continues a legacy of hospitality. Here’s to many more years to come of comfort and relaxation!

Kristine is River Terra’s Guest Whisperer. She spent all her childhood vacations at the home and eventually took over the care and nurturing of the property. After a long-​term gig in the corporate arena, she decided to open River Terra Retreat as a B&B and place to meet. Even at 100+ years old, the house continues a legacy of hospitality.

When you stay at Kristine’s, she wants you to feel, as the Italians say, la mia casa e la tua casa — «my house is your house.» Living and breathing by the philosophies of respecting diversity, listening, excellent service and discretion, Kristine looks forward to meeting you and seeing what she can do for you!
