While originally opened in 2003 at the cost of $ 27,000,000.00 and never really open to the public except for private tours, after another multi tens of millions of dollars worth of renovations, Bright Football Complex opened to the public in September. I’ve been visiting the complex on business for the last three years and saw it before, during and now finally today, after the renovation. It’s breath-taking and a must see for any sports fans. Very much enjoyed my visit. See, finally the Heisman trophy that John David Crow won in 1957 is wide open for the public to see as it always should have been. Until September it had been hidden off in a hallway where only the football players, staff and A&M staff had access to, so it was hard to be able to view it — you had to know someone to get in. It always seemed sad to me that the students and fans could not even see it. Now everyone can. Just off Houston street right next to Kyle Field you turn on John David Crow Blvd. You’ll see the new larger than life, perhaps 25 foot tall statue of Mr. Crow. There are half a dozen or so free 30 minute visitor parking spaces. You’ll want to enter the new Tommie E. Lohman Center. As the front of the building is all glass it’s very hard to see the doors but if you walk to the center suddenly the glass parts, and there you are, wah-lah, bam! A brand new, open to the public Texas A&M University Football museum becoming unofficially known as «Heisman Hall». You can visit Crow’s Heisman, there’s a help desk with free tours and there’s a lot to see. Epically modern cathedral like ensemble of stainless steel, glass and A&M football lore galore. Perhaps over time the museum«Heisman Hall» will become complete with Manziel’s 2012 and 2013 Heisman Trophies as well.
