College Hills Veterinary Hospital

I have 2 dogs and have been to this vet on at least 10 different occasions. This vet hospital has very friendly staff. The doctor is knowledge and most of the doctors I’ve seen have been sweethearts to our pups. They do get 2 stars docked because they are super overpriced. I guess that comes with the territory of being in a college town though.

I have been using this office for a year, and at my dogs one year check up, we discovered they had sold me both heart guard and Trifexes (both have the same medicine in them). The double doses of medicine for 6 months is not only unhealthy, but expensive too (an extra $ 140). The vet said she would work on how they would make up the cost difference for the next 6 months, and all I received was 10% off. While I think Dr. Stewart is great, I was extremely disappointed with this situation. I’m not sure I’ll be returning.

Before I start my review I would just like to say that I’ve only had one visit at this clinic where I actually saw the vet with my dog and she was WONDERFUL. Very informative and helpful. Much better than vets I’ve been to in the past who don’t really seem to care and just try to sell you as many things as they can. Unfortunately though, I had some other issues with this clinic.
The first time I used this clinic, it was just to board two of my dogs while I was moving into my new place. I chose this clinic because of their location and they seemed to have the best prices. I didn’t have any problems with the boarding except for the fact that my dogs smelled TERRIBLE when I picked them up, and I mean terrible. So bad that all the windows had to be rolled down on the drive home and left open for several hours after just to get the smell out. And of course the dogs had to be bathed immediately as they made the whole house stink. I have boarded these dogs there twice (both just 2 night weekend stays) and had this same problem both times. The smell is very strange too. I have worked in kennels and clinics and never smelled anything like this. Perhaps it is to encourage people to opt for the bath before pick up? Who knows, but if I remember correctly the bath was a little pricey and it’s not hard for me to just do that at home. I was also a little annoyed that I had to fill out new client info sheets on my second visit as well since they had somehow lost my information. It wouldn’t have been that big of deal had I not been in a hurry that day, but I had just filled the same thing out only a few weeks before.
My biggest complaint is the staff and the inconsistency of information I received. I brought two of my dogs in for just a heartworm test and to buy prevention. That wasn’t too expensive to just do the test ($ 26 I believe but not sure) so I didn’t mind. When it was time to bring my third dog in, I was told he had to have an exam first ($ 45 I think) and also have the test done before I could buy the prevention. I understand him having to have the heartworm test done, but not the exam. The employee took on a bit of an attitude with me when I questioned that and told me the employee who sold me the prevention for my other dogs was wrong to do so. They told me the exam was «required by law» before the prevention could be sold. Maybe the clinics I have worked at and used in the past have broken this law, but to my knowledge this was not true.
I was able to take my dog to another clinic and just get the heartworm test (for only $ 10 this time) and buy the prevention.
Like I said above, the doctor at this clinic was amazing (the only reason I’m giving three stars), but I was not happy with the attitude of the staff in my other encounters and in the end I felt like I was just being told to spend unnecessary money. Unfortunately I don’t think I will be back as I have since found a new clinic.

The College Hills vet has always been a positive experience for me. My dog has had a range of health problems, and doctors and vet techs do a good job explaining everything to me clearly and offering me options. Even though it’s a small office, I’ve never had an issue getting an appointment on short notice. I took off one star for prices, though. I’m sure they are standard comparable to other veterinary offices, but still on the high side (for example, I got a whole bottle of pain pills from the A&M vet clinic for the same price as just a few from College Hills).

Went to this clinic as an emergency with my dog who had HGE. The staff was very helpful. The vet was VERY nice as well. She was thorough and informative, willing to answer every question I had and reassured me that my dog would be OK as I was in a panic. The dog was given a shot with fluids that made her have a hump back that went away in a few days. It was like magic! My baby was OK again. This vet is one of the best in the area in my opinion. She treats owners and pets with kindness and takes time to actually help. The price was not cheap, but as I was an emergency visit with a dog that required multiple tests I really can’t testify to the price of a normal visit or check-​up.

College Hills vet was a great experience. The vet was knowledgeable, informative, and attentive. She and her assistant treated my pet carefully and kindly, and as soon as I walked in the door we were headed back to a private room. As a result my pet had the least stressful vet visit in years.
My pet has a heart condition that the vet has treated in other animals. The vet made sure I understood what I needed to do to keep my pet healthy. She did not pressure me for unnecessary expenses.
