We specialize in humans. Each person is unique and is treated as such at Revive. We take a brief but informative health history at your first appointment, take your pulses on the wrist, and choose acupuncture points specifically for your unique presentation as a whole person, not just a «condition» or illness. While we see many common ailments over and over and this experience helps us get you feeling better quickly, you’re the only YOU we see with that ailment, so our treatment is tailored to treat you as a whole, not just your ailment.

History

Established in 2011.

Revive Community Acupuncture opened its doors in August of 2011 and has since provided over 7,000 affordable acupuncture treatments to our community — friends, neighbors, relatives in from out of town, elders, students, children, all with a wide range of health and wellness needs have found what they needed by coming through our door.

Why community acupuncture?

In Community Acupuncture you get quality, comprehensive treatment designed for your specific health and wellness needs. Treatments happen in a quiet and comfortable shared space in awesome reclining chairs at a cost that is accessible for almost everyone — $ 15 to $ 35. It’s your choice to pay whatever you are comfortable with on the scale. For the first visit there is an additional $ 10 intake fee. We’re proud to be a part of the grass-​roots acupuncture revolution that is Community Acupuncture and are very happy to be a member of The People’s Organization of Community Acupuncture (POCA).

I’m a longtime resident of the DC metro area. I graduated in 1994 from GWU and spent many years in theatre. After developing migraines in my early 30s I found acupuncture eliminated them almost completely, and decided to retire from theatre life and shift careers into this awesome, 100% natural, truly holistic healing modality. The only problem I found with acupuncture treatment was the cost. I loved the effects it had — my migraines reduce dramatically in a very short amount of time, a whole bunch of other things did too. Anxiety — gone. Stress level? Down! Clarity about life in general? Hugely improved. But, it was expensive at $ 90 per treatment. I went every other week because it’s what I could manage, but in school I learned that people can improve so quickly with acupuncture when they come in frequently, especially in the beginning of treatment. When I discovered Community Acupuncture I knew right away that it was the kind of clinic I would open because it’s affordable.

I’ve been a regular at Revive for a number of years, coming in for treatments usually twice a week. Kim has helped me with a variety of ailments ranging from arthritis and athletic injuries to insomnia. The treatments vary in subtle ways and I’m always feeling better after getting «punked.» I can’t recommend Kim’s work highly enough – it has changed my life.

I went for the first time today and had a great experience. It was my first time trying acupuncture and I’m nervous about needles, but insertion was a breeze and once they were in I couldn’t feel them. The room is very simple but comfy, and there was only one other person there when I went. I really like the community model because it seems less intimidating that a private session — think pedicure vs full body massage :). Kim talked to me in the lobby about my health history and reasons for coming before we went into the treatment room to place the needles, so it was still a very personal experience. And I fell asleep — which is usually hard enough for me to do in my own bed in the dark!

Kim is the only acupuncturist I’ve been to and I’ve only been once. I have knee pain from an old injury and massage wasn’t giving me as much relief as it used to. When Kim was done with me, I stood up and walked like a normal person. I didn’t have to wait a few moments to get my knees in gear. I didn’t wobble walk. I was truly shocked.
Also, I had the best nap ever in this place. It was only 40 minutes or so but it felt like a full night’s sleep. I was relaxed, energetic and productive the next few days. I didn’t read the instructions she gave me for a few days. If I had, I wouldn’t have had as much coffee or stayed up till 4 am the next two days.
My knees felt great until I ate 2 protein bars for breakfast a few days later. I could feel the pain return with every bite so I’ll go back soon and steer clear of protein bars from now on. Revive is a good distance from my home and work so I won’t be going as often as I’d like but I’ll definitely drop in whenever I’m within a 10 mile radius.

Wonderful spot. I was new to acupuncture and it’s right around the corner from my house. When I can make it in there with my schedule — Kim is friendly, down to earth, and the place just has a wonderful, homey vibe. You can walk in with no appointment needed, which is wonderfully convenient.
The sliding scale makes it accessible to everyone, especially if you don’t have insurance.

I’ve tried acupuncture before and have never found it particularly effective. But I’ve been having chronic pain and when I heard about community acupuncture ($ 15 – 35 instead of $ 60 – 100) I figured it couldn’t hurt (no pun intended!)
Kim is good at placing needles, sometimes they hurt but I think that’s a phsyical thing rather than her technique. At your first appointment she asks a few questions and then starts you off.
The one drawback, in my opinion, is that there is no explanation of what she’s doing, and on follow up visits, unless you speak up with new/​different issues she just places needles the same place as before. She explain, for example, whether you need to relax or how long you should lay there, or where she’s putting the needles. I’m the kind of person who asks lots of questions but when I do I don’t get good explanations.
OK, two drawbacks, it’s not particularly transit-​accessible.
I love the model of community acupuncture and have no trouble relaxing or zoning out for 1 – 1.5 hrs (really!), as long as I want. And the price can’t be beat.

I admit I was a bit hesitant about community acupuncture. I’ve tried several acupuncturists in New York, but I’ve had a hard time finding anyone in DC that is both affordable and good. I was pleasantly surprised by the treatment here. Kim was miles ahead of the last person I tried in DC in terms of knowledge, treatment, and comfort. I cannot confirm yet if the treatment is curing my allergies, but I’m definitely sold on trying Kim again. She is the best I’ve found so far in the DC area.

Kim is fantastic! This new clinic is wonderful for someone who is new to acupuncture or for someone who has used acupuncture for years. Even though the space is large, it had a very intimate feel. The space is very Warm in the winter and cool in the summer. I always feel great when I leave here!

I’ve been to a few community acupuncture places, but this one has provided the best pain relief thus far for my sprained hand. It is very peaceful in there & Kim is fantastic — it’s just as good as one-​on-​one acupuncture (and in fact every session I’ve had has been private because I was the only one there). I generally prefer community/​nonprofit acupuncture over private because I think the treatments are more aggressive & focused on providing relief vs. getting you back to follow up as a client.

I came to Revive based on a recommendation from Little Bird. I have had a shoulder problem for about a year and wanted to try acupuncture. I have to say I was very impressed. I had no idea what to expect. Kim was absolutely wonderful. She listened attentively while I explained my issues & went over the process with me along with what to expect.
The one issue I had was that the room was freezing — like couldn’t feel my fingertips cold. Kim explained she had been away & turned off the heat. The Midwesterner in me thought — oh — bad idea. It takes too long to reheat a building & costs a fortune to do so. In addition, I couldn’t relax so I am unsure what I got out of it.
Pros: attentive, chairs are comfy, prices allow multiple visits per week if necessary, lots of soft lighting & natural light flowing in, blankets are soft
Cons: location — not metro accessible or walkable, freezing in building
I will definitely be back to try it again & will update my post. Four stars only because of the heating issue.

Kim is excellent — patient, answers questions thoroughly, and is flexible for scheduling. She also lets patients sit as long as they need to — it is nice not to be rushed out the door.

Kim is a fabulous acupuncturist. She’s down to earth and friendly, and was very comforting to someone like me who’s new to acupuncture (and has a dislike of needles), explaining everything to me before starting the actual treatment.
I went to see her for several health reasons, and because they were issues of varying kinds, she focused my first treatment on pain relief rather than taking on the whole kit and caboodle to prevent my body from going into a healing crisis. After this one session, I experienced more range of motion and less pain in my shoulder, as well as little-​to-​no pain in my wrist, where I’d been having symptoms of carpal tunnel. I also slept like a baby that night.
Revive’s communal setting has a cozy feel, and I especially like that I can stay in the reclining chair for as long as my body feels is necessary. And the reasonable price makes having regular sessions quite affordable.
BTW, it was another acupuncturist who recommended Kim/​Revive Acupuncture to me, and someone on Google+ mentioned that her acupuncturist recommends Kim, too, so here are two unsolicited references from her professional peers.

Kim is so friendly, and it is wonderful to be able to receive treatment for as long as the body deems necessary. This is a community center with affordable treatments. I do not mind other people zooming out around me. The athmosphere is very quiet and everyone seem to respect others «me-​time».
The place is simple and you do not get more than you need. You can walk in or you can make an appointment online. The needles don’t hurt at all, and in no time I was in la-​la land! :) Go Revive for the Community!
