For a restaurant at the farmers market, you may like to have more than one item on the menu that is «fresh» and/or «local». The biscuits were hard and flat with no taste. The menu lists the same items at two different prices. A sad and underwhelming experience.

My family and I eat here every Saturday before work and they never disappoint. You are greeted with giant biscuits with homemade apple butter that is delicious! The staff is very friendly and attentive, always keeping our coffees full. My favorite is the granola French toast with hash brown casserole!!!

Without question, Moose Café is one of the more likeable family-style restaurants of recent memory. Secreted away, in the back of the huge Triad Farmer’s Market, is this unpretentious gem of a restaurant. Despite its location, however, it was very easy to find. Within three miles of the sprawling Thorndike/National Service Road airport motel complex, Moose Café is easy to reach, via either National Service or I-40(Sandy Ridge Road exit). A large and unassuming, almost cafeteria-style dining room awaits. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available, but we were there for their Southern country-style dinners. Service was prompt and attentive; eager to assist, but not crowding. There is very little«fancy» about Moose Café, and that is indeed a part of its charm. Portions of everything are large, and dinners consist– quite typically– of a protein and two sides. While ordering, a basket of softball-sized biscuits, and their delicious apple butter, arrived at our table. Rustic, rather than light or fluffy, the biscuits were tasty in their own right, but made special when spread with the apple butter. This is a caramel-colored apple butter of very finely diced apples, tinged with cinnamon and just a hint of vinegar and added sugar. So good was this addition that the three of us ate three full servings of it while enjoying the biscuits. There is a wide variety of Southern and Southern-tinged entrée choices, but we each ordered the Southern Fried Chicken. There was nothing«baby chicken» about the leg quarters received, these were the size of fryer pieces in the days before over-commercialization of the poultry industry. Fresh and juicy, if a tad overcooked, but wonderful in spite of an extra minute too long in the deep fryer. The kitchen’s use of seasoning takes a more minimalist approach, and you may find yourself reaching for the salt and pepper shakers, or asking for hot sauce, vinegar or similar condiments. Remembering that you can always add, but never remove, seasoning to suit the individual tastes of each person, this was a small concession. My side dishes were collards and cheddar grits. The collards were properly stemmed, and cooked to the point of being tender, but hardly stewed. Hiding, if not missing, was any indication of smoked pork product, yet a few dashes of hot sauce suited my tastes very well. I really enjoyed them. A bit less successful were the cheddar grits; enriched with a fair quantity of cheese, but thin in their consistency. My wife had the same observation, but gave an unconditional«thumbs up» to the cole slaw. My mom ordered as her sides the stuffed zucchini(«nothing special») and pinto beans with chow-chow– something she hadn’t tasted previously. For northern readers, chow-chow is a slightly sweet pickled vegetable mixture– think finely-chopped Italian gardinaire with a pinch of sugar added. The chow-chow and some coarsely-chopped white onions arrived in small plastic cups, and her opinion of the dish seemed to increase as each was added. My exposure to Southern cuisine is considerably greater than hers(albeit, with black-eyed peas, rather than pinto beans), and the small forkful that I took identified this dish as well-prepared. We had no room remaining for desserts, although their menu descriptions and appearance on adjacent tables made this a difficult decision. Yet, perhaps the best way to end a meal didn’t impact my caloric intake. Abundant dinners of very good food, with beverages, averaged about $ 10 per person. Where I’m from, you have to struggle to find sandwich lunches at this price point! Is the Moose Café the best Southern country food I’ve ever encountered? In candor, «no,» but it is on the list. Is it the best price value for Southern country food? This far north, and in the shadows of an urban area, probably«yes.» What is definite is my recommendation.

I’m staying in Greensboro for work. The Moose Café was recommended by someone I’m working with. They did right by me!!! From the biscuits and homemade apple butter to the country fried steak and hand breaded chicken tenders. This place is Southern comfort food at its finest!!! BTW, come hungry… I’m usually a big eater and took half my dinner home with me!!! I DEFINITELY will be by again before I head back to Pittsburgh!!!

I can here for lunch today as I had not eaten a hearty meal an all day. Moose’s Café is a country restaurant and store located in the same vicinity as a the Farmer’s Market in Greensboro. It’s kind of lack a poor man’s Cracker Barrel in a way. The inside of the restaurant Has a country vibe to it as the tables have picnic table cloths over them, and the booths appeared to be made of old school wood, as some look worn down. The hostess seated me right away, and my waitress came immediately after with a HUGE biscuit and homemade apple butter! That’s like their appetizer like Mexican restaurants serve chips and salsa. The biscuit was warm, fluffy, and moist which went perfectly with the apple butter. I devoured it immediately! I was bummed that the place didn’t serve breakfast all day so I had to settle for lunch. More places should do breakfast all day as it would make them more desirable, just my opinion though. Anyways, I went with the loaded hamburger steak which came with two sides and cornbread. I chose chicken and dumplings and collard greens for my sides. When my waitress brought out my food, I noticed the hamburger steak was cooked all the way and politely asked if she would take it back and bring me a well done version. She did it with no problem or attitude and apologized for the mistake. Customer service like this is rare, and I appreciated it very much! She came back about 10 minutes later win my food and the hamburger steak was cooked well done like I wanted! It was delicious! It was covered with bacon, mushrooms, onions, and cheese sauce. I didn’t think j would like it as much as I do but it was really good. The chicken and dumplings were very good and filling! Seasoned good and not bland which was a plus. Then there was the collard greens which were a huge healing and seasoned great! I haven’t had collard greens like that in a long long time! The cornbread was soft, and at the same time it didn’t crumble easily which I liked and it was thick too! I was stuffed at the end, but had a sweet craving for some dessert. My waitress wasn’t around so I had to ask the hostess about what cobbler they had in season. She told me strawberry, which is rare around here since peach and apple are the norms, but I tried it anyway and let me tell you it was delicious! Very fillings and the crust and strawberries maybe a good combination for a great taste! It was topped with whipped cream which made it even better! I think my waitress felt bad that she wasn’t there when I was wanting dessert because she didn’t charge me for it! I only paid for my meal which was $ 10 and I got water so that was free which was awesome! The service was good, not great, however getting a free cobbler that usually cost $ 2.99 easily makes amends for the«good but not great service!!!» I’ll be back for breakfast as that’s what I had my heart set on for today, but overall I like Moose Café, and I’ll come back for sure!

Very good home cooking. Had to get a To go box, at least I will have supper tonight all for under $ 10.00 bucks. Cornbread was moist and perfect. Had chicken and dumplings with Mac and cheese with a cucumber salad. Yum. Only down side(I do not care for country music) but that is me. Worth the stop for good food. Also service was great.

Large portions!!! The biscuits and apple butter was the most enjoyable part of our meal. It was very slow on a Sunday night which was nice. I somehow upset our waitress with my midwestern ways and it showed in our service. You get large portions but there wasn’t much special about the food. The spinach bacon salad I had was awful! I had about 5 leaves of spinach swimming in a bowl of vinegar, not bacon flavored at all. The big olé shrimp were popcorn shrimp. The mashed potatoes tasted like they had sat all day. The mac n cheese and dumplings were good. The green beans were great! We will return to try breakfast but not sure we will be back for dinner.

The Country Fried Steak(AKA Chicken Fried Steak) with excellent White Gravy, real Mashed Potatoes, and a garden salad with Blue Cheese Dressing was simply super, as always. Throw in some great biscuits and cornbread, a bit ob n the sweet side, and you have a great lunch. Unfortunately my choices were not as memorable. The Chicken Livers were very, very overcooked, the Pintos had a strange after taste, and the Chili was watery & sweet. Did a very poor job ordering, it seems!

Talk about southern comfort food!!! As soon as we were seated out came the hot biscuits! They were crazy good!!! Everything was so fresh. I got the southern fried chicken. I got the pickled beats, and roasted butternut squash. My husband ordered the meatloaf, cheese grits and mashed potatoes and gravy! He said it was like grandma ‘s. We did order the chicken livers! Very moist. You just can’t beat the value. Went home with«extras». EVERYTIME I’m in the area, I make sure I go!

First time here. Clean place and good food. Service was very efficient and quick. Enjoyed the mother moose chicken. French fries were good! Wouldn’t mind coming back again for a burger, as my colleagues enjoyed their burger meals too!

Someone recommended this place to us and we were excited to hopefully have a new breakfast place, since we haven’t yet since we moved here. Now, I really try not to judge people’s appearance, but our waitress looked like she hadn’t washed her hair in at least a week. Even my husband noticed. It was unsettling from the start. Second, the coffee was terrible. No amount of cream and sugar could help. Third, the home fries: This is the south, y’all. Don’t we season things like this? It was most bland meal I’ve ever eaten. I gave it 2 stars because my husband said his French toast was good. But, it’s pretty hard to screw up French toast. In my opinion that was a $ 35 waste of money breakfast.

Had a great dinner here. Service was fantastic. Food was exactly what we were hoping for. Huge flakey biscuits were delivered as we sat down, with delicious apple butter. The country fried steak was excellent as were the chicken tenders. My wife got the«mother mooses chicken» which is grilled chicken topped with bacon, mushrooms, caramelized onions and smothered in a cheese sauce. She loved it. All the sides were excellent as well, we got mashed potatoes and gravy, collards, pintos, and veggie soup. Our son got a bacon cheeseburger that he really liked and the fries served with it was out of this world. 10⁄10. We will definitely be going back. Great service. Great food.

This place is the biggest waste of space I’ve ever seen. How can you be located at a farmers market and offer such terrible food? The only vegetable dish on the menu was some green beans that looked like they were boiled to death and then left in a hot car for a week. I ordered an overcooked and underseasoned burger. The vegetables(you know, farm to table…) on the burger were a lame piece of iceburg lettuce and thin tomato slice. The side of mashed potatoes was similarly unseasoned. Possibly the only portion of mashed potatoes I have not managed to finish in the past 40 years. Other diners in my party ordered chicken tenders which were also bland. Free biscuits on the table were gummy and the apple butter was pedestrian. The ambiance was lacking. They kept a door open the entire time, letting flies and cigarette smoke in. And my kid hit his head on a shelf that was mounted helpfully right above his chair. On the way out the manager asked me how everything was. I gave a noncommittal answer and she didn’t seem to care. To make payment as awkward as possible they ask you to verbally tell the cashier your tip amount rather than let you write it on the receipt like a normal place. The biggest question about this place is how it got so many good Unilocal.Even the people who hated it seem to have given three stars. What’s wrong with you people?

Because cooking a huge Thanksgiving meal is for«suckers» we let usually let someone else do all the work– most importantly the dishes. One year — I had surgery and couldn’t go out so we brought dinner in from the Moose Café.
It was very good. And as close to a «home cooked meal» as one could get. It didn’t taste like the green beans were from a huge can. The pies were hand made. Save your self the trouble this year and let the Moose Café do the work for you. Note to self… You must pre order your meal. So plan early

One of the best places to eat in Greensboro metro! My family and I live closer to Wilkesboro, so everytime we come to Greensboro, we stop here and eat. It’s a must! Today, service was lacking which is disappointing because we usually never have bad service. So bad in fact, we didn’t even leave a tip which is rare. She didn’t know answers to questions about the menu, never once refilled our drink much less asked if we’d like a refill, didn’t give us any straws or napkins, and didn’t ask if we needed to go boxes or wanted any dessert. Food was great as usual. I had fried chicken, mac n cheese, stuffed zucchini, and cornbread. I will have to say the zucchini could have used a lot less chili powder(that’s all I could really taste). My husband had hamburger steak, fries, and a side salad. My son had mac n cheese, fries, and green beans. I love their apple butter and biscuits. Such a great combo. We will always return!

I can only compliment the biscuits for breakfast. They are delicious. As for the quality of the other food we ate for breakfast, not so much. For the amount of money you spend per breakfast plate, you should definitely choose another breakfast destination! I just had a sausage, egg & cheese biscuit and it was mediocre at best. Biscuit was good, egg was made wrong and I had to request what I ordered and the cheese was definitely processed and not even melted onto the sausage. My boyfriend got some breakfast plate with a moose cake, their version of a pancake. The server brought out his 2 plates; with one plate resting on top of the actual pancake! Gross. She said it was bc the plates were hot. Omg seriously?! There were dead flies all over the ledge next to our booth. See pic. And dust was everywhere on the top of the booth. Last trip to Moose Café. Never. Again.

I was not a huge fan. It is a great location if you are visiting the farmers market and want to grab a bite to eat. I liked the apple butter but wasn’t a huge fan of the biscuit. But after all it was free so I do think that is a neat touch. I wasn’t a fan of my sausage patties they seemed like they weren’t heated up all the way. My eggs were cooked perfectly over medium! Service was sparse but it did seem like she had a huge part of the room to cover. Not in a rush to go back but if my dining companion was super into it I wouldn’t not go again.
