The Village of Cold Spring

What’s not to love about this quaint charming little villiage just minutes away from NYC?
If looking for a quick day trip it’s about and hour and twenty minute ride on the Metro North out of Grand Central station. More than enough times on the schedule to head out early and get home later in the evening.
Easy walk from the train station so no cars are needed. Information desk is right there at the start of Main Street to pick up a map, and pulic bathrooms too.
Idyllic setting right on the water. Wonderful views all around and terrific when the leaves are changing. Great location for getting some beautiful pics along the Hudson River.
Walking main street is like a trip to a past time. Local mom and pop shops along the way, and the area is very clean and safe.
If you like antique shopping there are a bunch of great stores here to rummage through.
If you want ice cream and ice pops there are a few spots to have some homemade cold goodness.
If you like artsy and eclectic crafty things there are places here to shop for that special gift or something for your own.
If you like hiking in the woods there are plenty of trails up here.
Coffee shops too with tables and chairs set up on the sidewalk to chill at and people watch.
If you want to stay overnight there are a few boutique hotels/B&B’s in town. Some might be haunted from what I heard. Cool.
Most places here seem to close around 6−7pm so plan accordingly. There’s a nice bar and good restaurant or two that stay open later for dinner. If staying late there are still trains running after 8pm to get you home so no worries.
It’s almost like being away on vacation as I couldn’t believe I was still in NY. A nice escape from the rat race of the concrete jungle.

Gorgeous village outside of NYC. Short commute from Grand Central or take advantage of NYC’s day tours via boat along the Hudson River.
We came here for a day trip and was mesmerized by the view along the Hudson River. It’s perfect to visit during the fall season.
The village of Cold Spring is extremely beautiful. They have a strip filled with small antique stores, bars/​pubs, restaurants, coffee shops, and you get to experience a sense of closeness to nature.
Aside from shopping and tasting fine food, we were told by the locals that a lot of folks come to Cold Spring for hiking.
I’m planning on getting a group of friends together to test out our hiking skills in Cold Spring sometime in the future.

It is so easy to get to with Metro North. I wonder if I could live here. It is such a clean city, but the ghosts.
Can you live with so many ghosts still wandering the town? You have a ghost that haunts the old train depot of a woman who was murdered by her evil husband. There are the ghosts of Bannerman island that still wander the island believing that the castles were whole and living out their lives in the 1920s. There are ghosts in the old hotel. There is a ghost along the shore that is seen walking and looking out into the Hudson. Everywhere I go, there is some small plaque or notice of a ghost. Ghost warnings, I call them. I consider these the same as a Beware of Dog sign.
I wonder if October is anything fun here. Summer is certainly a wonderful get away for the outdoor active. But the ghosts…

Love the beauty of this village by the river. Amazing views and charming restaurants. I didn’t grow up here and don’t know people who live here but I still appreciate this beautiful area.

Friend and I needed to get out of the city, so we decided to day trip to Cold Spring. Took the train from Grand Central, super easy.
Started off with coffee and breakfast from Cup’o’ccino. Super cute, delicious baked goods. Woman there was super friendly and told us a little history of Cold Spring.
The city itself is so cute and quaint. We got some great photographs. Next we walked down the highway to the Little Stone bridge and began our hike of Bull Run. We followed the White trail, it was really great. We spent a good 5 hours hiking and taking pictures. Finally ended up finding our way back out of the mountain and hit up McGuire’s on Main for some burgers and beers.
A woman on the street told us that we weren’t properly dressed to hike the trail (we were in sneakers), but the trail wasn’t that difficult. We even went off trail at some points to get to the outermost edges of the mountain terrain.
Would definitely recommend this place as a great escape from the city. Can’t wait to go back in summer/​spring.

Every time I was amazed with what i saw… During weekends (summer) there is a lot of activity around…
